Depo provera vs mirena

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera vs mirena

depo-provera

3113005 tn?1341773834 I am little confused by your question. The depo provera shot is given once every three months not for three months at some unspecified interval. If you mean that you received the depo shot 4 months ago, and hence, the last month, you did not get a repeat depo shot, then the answer to your question is, yes, you can get pregnant. I was on the depo shot for about 5 years before stopping to try to conceive. It took me 3 years to conceive my son who is 6 years old.

Avatar f tn d have to check on the implant bit I know the shot (depo provera), the mini pill, and the mirena are all safe with nursing.
Avatar f tn I was on my 2nd one as well, took the first one out because the strings were poking me and my husband. However, the main reason I had the second one removed is because it was like I was stuck in a perpetual loop of PMS.
Avatar n tn The deposit provera shot made me bleed for 7 1/2 months straight. It made me gain mass amounts of weight and brought my anxiety up. It also weekend my bones. all that from getting the shot 1 time. I wouldn't recommend the depo provera shot.
Avatar f tn In October, I got my first shot of Depo-Provera. I know several women on depo and they have all told me they have had the same experience: no periods, no spotting and no other side effects whatsoever. My experience has been horrible. For the first 6 weeks, all was well, no bleeding/spotting and no other symptoms. A few weeks ago, however, I began spotting. Every day it became heavier.
Avatar n tn It's possible, however I think you have your birth controls messed up. An IUD is an intrauterine device, and isn't a shot. You can get either the Paragard or Mirena, and it's left in for 5 or 10 years depending on which you get. The only birth control shot is the Depo Provera. Usually after using this, you won't fall pregnant immediately. It can take 6 months to a year for it to fully leave your system.
Avatar f tn Hello, I was just wondering if anyone out there knows anything about the long term use of Depo-Provera Contraceptive. I have been using it for a few years now, and have no plans of stopping using it anytime soon, as I am in college and will be for quite some time to come. I know that I am putting myself at risk for Osteoporosis by using it for a long time. But what I don't know is considering the fact that since being on Depo, I have had pretty much no menstrual cycle for a very long time.
Avatar f tn It sounds to me like some of the people who are writing may be confusing the Mirena with Depo Provera--those are definitely side effects of the Depo shot. In fact, the copper IUD has been a bigger cause of problems than the Mirena in my clientelle. It tends to make period cramping worse, And the bleeding heavier! Women who like it, really swear by it though. The Mirena, in my experience usually lightens the flow tremendously--or even stops the bleeding altogether.
Avatar m tn What is a good birth control method for someone with bipolar disorder with psychotic features? My wife recently stopped taking Depo Provera, which I believe may have contributed to yet another psychotic episode->hospitalization. We don't want any kind of permanent solution (e.g. tubal ligation), but we need a reliable method and one that won't destabilize her once we decide to have a baby.
1349678 tn?1276828586 I'm a guy but an ex of mine was on the Depo shot and she seemed pretty happy with it. Essentially the same as the pill but you only need to get the shot every couple of months instead of taking the pill every day.
Avatar n tn I would like to say that my doctor actually went to a seminar regarding depo and calcium loss and their is no substantial evidence that state this is true. I've been on depo for nearly 10 years straight with no calcium loss. I actually quit depo because of that rumor, and I gravely regret that. After visiting my doctor, he found this seminar and went just to learn more about my inquiry of the long term effects.
3105573 tn?1355979465 depression and mood swings so bad it almost ended my relationship. Depo Provera is used as a chemical sterilizer for sex offenders. Probably the single most effective birth control barring a hysterectomy! It does not have that effect in all women but I would be extremely careful with it. I love the NuvaRing but if you are going to breastfeed you won't be able to use it because of the progesterone. If you can not be consist with pills I would look into an intrauterine device (IUD).
Avatar m tn well i thought ok this is my mind messing with me but now i have been freaking out i am supposed to get my period in a week but just got the depo provera 2 days ago now i have been eating everything in sight, headaches, breast tenderness like never before but my main concern is me peeing every 30 min and i have wat seems a bulge i dont know if its the depo or if its a pregnancy and im wondering if i should go get a ultrasound to ease my mind.
Avatar m tn If you were my patient, I would advise you that there are lots of available options and you should probably make an appointment with your doctor to decide what is going to be best for you. Oral contraceptive pills are the most popular form of birth control. Depo Provera injections are also popular and easy--one "shot" every three months. Nexplanon in an implant and MIrena is an IUD which does not contain copper.
Avatar f tn m outside the normal range of time after stopping Depo Provera to have gotten my periods back. Could Depo be causing these problems or does it sound like something else could be a problem?
Avatar n tn You can't get pregnant unless you ovulate. If you are trying to get pregnant, stop taking the pill. If you don't want to get pregnant, I would suggest a "more disciplined" birth control like the Mirena or Depo-Provera. at least you won't have to worry about taking it everyday which will then Eliminate the thoughts of are you? or are you not?
Avatar f tn If you were using Depo-Provera it may take longer for your cycles to return to normal. Keep in mind that Depo-Provera is designed to be a long-lasting form of birth control. Even though it is intended to help you avoid pregnancy for up to three months, it may actually prevent pregnancy longer. Depo-Provera is a synthetic hormone similar to progesterone.
202436 tn?1326474333 t planning on using any birth control after I had Lily, we were just gonna go with natural family planning. Well at my doc appt today he suggested the depo provera shot may help with milk production since I'm having an issue with it due to anemia. I went ahead and got the shot becuase I figured it was worth trying to see if it WILL help AND with the anemia problems right now it's probably best that I elminate as much risk of pregnancy as possible for awhile.
Avatar f tn Recently, Me and My Boyfriend had un-protected sex.. and afterwards i started bleeding. we haven't had sex in a week, what could time be a sign of.. I am on Depo Provera-the birth control shot?
