depo-provera

4364093 tn?1365869659 Thanks :) im only 20 weeks but was just thinking about it.
801413 tn?1333539276 How long did it take, what method were you using? Estimate from the time the contraception was no longer "effective" (24 hours after the pill, 13 weeks after depo provera, immediately after IUD removal, immediately after stopping condom use) Long-term methods for this poll would include the hormonal IUD, Depo Provera (the shot), and Implanon or other birth control implants.
3113005 tn?1341773834 I am little confused by your question. The depo provera shot is given once every three months not for three months at some unspecified interval. If you mean that you received the depo shot 4 months ago, and hence, the last month, you did not get a repeat depo shot, then the answer to your question is, yes, you can get pregnant. I was on the depo shot for about 5 years before stopping to try to conceive. It took me 3 years to conceive my son who is 6 years old.
384896 tn?1335294331 not sure about the breast feeding part but a lot of women on this site might agree with me to stay clear of depo-provera. I was on this bc for 2 and a half years and have been ttc for the same length of time with no joy. I was diagnosed with depression at 16 years old when i was on this, i asked the doc if that was the problem and was told no, when the depo eventually cleared from my system so did the depression my family say i was a new person.
Avatar n tn i was wrong about the IUD. I had Depo shots..
Avatar f tn @nessa The copper iud is hormone free, the depo provera shot is progestin only, as is the mini pill. Those are all good options. Iud is long term, depo is every twelve weeks, pill is daily.
Avatar f tn d have to check on the implant bit I know the shot (depo provera), the mini pill, and the mirena are all safe with nursing.
Avatar n tn I think i am pregnant but i am on the depo provera shot. Is that possible and if it is will the shot affect the fetus? I would be a month and some now and i have been having unprotected sex for two months.
3105573 tn?1355979465 depression and mood swings so bad it almost ended my relationship. Depo Provera is used as a chemical sterilizer for sex offenders. Probably the single most effective birth control barring a hysterectomy! It does not have that effect in all women but I would be extremely careful with it. I love the NuvaRing but if you are going to breastfeed you won't be able to use it because of the progesterone. If you can not be consist with pills I would look into an intrauterine device (IUD).
Avatar n tn How effective is the depo provera birth control shot? ( Is it 'ok' to do it without a condom every once in a while, WITHOUT him going inside me?
Avatar m tn What is a good birth control method for someone with bipolar disorder with psychotic features? My wife recently stopped taking Depo Provera, which I believe may have contributed to yet another psychotic episode->hospitalization. We don't want any kind of permanent solution (e.g. tubal ligation), but we need a reliable method and one that won't destabilize her once we decide to have a baby.
Avatar f tn My cousin had a baby and breast fed. She told me the doctor offered her depo provera ( three month shot) or an IUD.
Avatar f tn If you were my patient, I would advise you that it can be normal, and not uncommon to have bleeding like you are describing after starting depo Provera injections. Usually if you stick with the method for another one or two injections the bleeding will get much better and maybe go away completely so that you don't even have periods.
Avatar f tn If you were my patient, I would advise you that the depo provera injection is a very good and convenient form of birth control. Many patients use if for years and love it. Often there is some irregular bleeding initially when the shot is first begun, but after that most people don't have much more than infrequent spotting. If you get your shots on time the method is approximately 99% effective. I DO advise my patients to take a calcium supplement while on Depo. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Hello, I am writing because I was on birth control for about 6 years from pills to the path to the last 2 years of Depo-Provera. I have been off birth control completely for about a year and a half and was wondering when all of the hormones, etc. will clear out of my system. I am getting married soon and I was wondering when my fertility level will return to normal I am 21 years.
10228675 tn?1423881456 I had the depo shot years ago and gained a ton, i also had the IUD but i got really bad cists when i had it, im curious about the arm implant.
Avatar f tn Hello, I was just wondering if anyone out there knows anything about the long term use of Depo-Provera Contraceptive. I have been using it for a few years now, and have no plans of stopping using it anytime soon, as I am in college and will be for quite some time to come. I know that I am putting myself at risk for Osteoporosis by using it for a long time. But what I don't know is considering the fact that since being on Depo, I have had pretty much no menstrual cycle for a very long time.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone, I have never turned to a forum of any kind for any reason before but I am now because I don't feel like I can really talk to anyone in my personal life about what I'm dealing with every day & have them actually understand. I am 22 years old. I have had 4 laproscopy's in the past 4 years (the last one being a week ago today) & 3 DNC's (along with the past 3 surgeries - not this most recent surgery) to clean out the endometriosis & everything.
Avatar m tn If you were my patient, I would advise you that there are lots of available options and you should probably make an appointment with your doctor to decide what is going to be best for you. Oral contraceptive pills are the most popular form of birth control. Depo Provera injections are also popular and easy--one "shot" every three months. Nexplanon in an implant and MIrena is an IUD which does not contain copper.
Avatar f tn Since my diagnosis, I have undergone 2 laparoscopic procedures, one at 19 and one at 24. I was also prescribed the Depo-Provera shot, which I was on for a little over 10 years. With the shot I did notice a few negative side effects, such as irritability and loss of sex drive, however its ability to eliminate my periods and work effectively in preventing the pain and symptoms associated with endometriosis has been incredible and def. outweighs the negative-BIG time!
Avatar f tn I had a mirena IUD after my son was born and didn't have a single period from when it was inserted until I had it taken out. Back before my son when I got depo provera shots I didn't get periods on that either. Most hormonal methods make periods shorter and lighter or eliminate them completely.
Avatar f tn So, I was given the Depo Provera shot. I was told again that my symptoms should lessen in a few weeks. I went back in around Thanksgiving because I was still having pain and now I was getting strong abdominal cramping as well. I was sent to my regular physician to get an MRI and rule out other things. Everything came back negative. Then I wound up in the ER over Christmas break because my abdominal cramping was so strong I was doubling over in pain.
Avatar f tn I got depo provera for a few years and had no issues - no weight gain, no skin issues, no periods, no hormonal problems. I had some insurance issues so switched to just condoms for several years until my husband and I decided to have baby #1.
Avatar f tn Ill tell you my story and see if maybe it might give you some incite. I stopped taking depo provera ( the birth control shot) in Jan 2012, I was due for another one in April but my husband and I decided not to get it anymore because within the next 3 years we would like to ttc. For May and June I was fine, I had a little spotting but nothing crazy, then July came and thats when everything started.
