Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera symptoms

depo-provera

Avatar f tn I have been on the Depo Provera shot for more than 5 years now. I read that the recommended amount of time that a young woman should be on Depo is only 2 years. I am 20 now and I have been on it since I was 15. I have tried to come off of it once. I bled for about 3 weeks and then got back on it. Currently I have all kinds of pain. Back, kness, neck, arms, and I have migraines. I read about a calcium deficiency when doing research about Depo Provera.
Avatar n tn She took a pregnancy test before she got the depo provera shot (it was negative... obviously). She started having these symptoms about a week after getting the shot (the same time school started). We thought the symptoms might be a sign of her being pregnant, so she took another test a couple days ago and it was negative. I don't know what's going on, but I'm concerned. We're afraid she might be pregnant. We always use condoms even though she's on the shot... but still...
Avatar f tn m outside the normal range of time after stopping Depo Provera to have gotten my periods back. Could Depo be causing these problems or does it sound like something else could be a problem?
Avatar n tn it took me nearly 20 months to concieve after depo provera then when i did concieve i m/c at 9 weeks- 7months later still trying to concieve it mucks up your body but everyone is different so you just have to wait and see but i had no problem concieving my first 2 children before the depo.... good luck hopefully you will have better luck than me.
Avatar f tn If you were using Depo-Provera it may take longer for your cycles to return to normal. Keep in mind that Depo-Provera is designed to be a long-lasting form of birth control. Even though it is intended to help you avoid pregnancy for up to three months, it may actually prevent pregnancy longer. Depo-Provera is a synthetic hormone similar to progesterone.
746098 tn?1232912961 If you are taking depo-provera i would seriously recommend you stop using this asap. I had the same symptoms as yourself and was diagnosed with depression, i wasn't depressed it was the side effects of the depo -provera. Also if you do ever plan on having kids it could take up to years after coming off of this pill for your body to regulate. I regret ever taking this for of contraception as my body is still completely messed up. Hope this helps!!
Avatar n tn I began noticing severe menopausal symptoms about three months after I cycled off of my preferred birth control method Depo Provera. When I finally looked online to find out what was wrong with me (no period for 6 months, difficulty sleeping, incredible hot flashes and night sweats, excessive weight gain, a lot of crying, etc.) menopause kept coming up as one of the possible causes. After extensive testing at my doctor’s office I was told I was menopausal.
Avatar n tn In December 2013, our family doctor suggested she have the Depo Provera for birth control and to regulate her heavy menses. Mid January she came down with viral like symptoms (aches, pains, fevers, fatigue). This led to severe pelvic pain and pain in her bottom. On 2/22/14, I rushed her to the ER. They said her colon, bladder & intestines were swollen and inflamed. Her colon in fact was close to rupturing. She was admitted, and underwent biopsies which caused her bladder to perforate.
Avatar f tn Recently, Me and My Boyfriend had un-protected sex.. and afterwards i started bleeding. we haven't had sex in a week, what could time be a sign of.. I am on Depo Provera-the birth control shot?
3113005 tn?1341773834 I am little confused by your question. The depo provera shot is given once every three months not for three months at some unspecified interval. If you mean that you received the depo shot 4 months ago, and hence, the last month, you did not get a repeat depo shot, then the answer to your question is, yes, you can get pregnant. I was on the depo shot for about 5 years before stopping to try to conceive. It took me 3 years to conceive my son who is 6 years old.

Avatar f tn Irregular menstrual periods, or no periods at all Headaches Nervousness Depression Dizziness Acne Changes in appetite Weight gain Excessive growth of facial and body hair Hair loss Loss of bone mineral density Most of the side effects are not common. Change in the menstrual cycle is the most common side effect. You may experience irregular bleeding or spotting. After a year of use, about 50% of women will stop getting their periods. Their periods usually return when they discontinue the shots.
Avatar n tn Hello, Irregular bleeding like you describe is a common side effect of Depo Provera. Your girlfriend should have been counseled about this possibility when initiated on the medication. If she has any questions/concerns she should see the provider who is prescribing the medication. Best regards, Dr.
Avatar f tn I've been on depo provera for 15 years and my periods stopped right away. I'm 45 years old and just had a period that lasted 5 days. My question is whether or not depo provera is still working as my birth control choice? Is there a way to know if depo provera is no longer working and if I may get pregnant?
432411 tn?1206472109 Hence getting the Depo you note more symptoms but the Depo is not the cause just happens to be at the same time. Anyway, get tested by the doctor properly for menopause. Depo can STOP periods for up to FIVE years even after removal of the implant! Get tested for calcium and Vit D and get proper full thyroid function tests.
Avatar f tn Quick question... which Depo are you on? There are two kinds, that I'm aware of: Depo Provera or Depo Lupron. I had tried the Provera when I was about 16 for about a year. I had to stop because I could not handle the side effects any longer. I did spot for about 3 months. It usually takes a few months for your system to get used to it. The Lupron stops your period completely and basically puts your body into menopause, which is the one I am currently on.
Avatar f tn Is is possible that my son (who is now 16) has Autism because of Depo Provera birth control shots I received? My other 2 children are fine as I wasn't using any birth control with them. I received 2 shots and wasn't aware that I got pregnant during this time.........Is there a connection?? 4069776 tn?1349518384 Hello, I was on depo provera for 9 years, I had my last shot in Jan 2012 and was suppose to come get my next shot April 2012, My doctor informed me that it would be fine for me to just stop taking it because I did so well while I was on it and that I should be fine coming off of it, well I didnt. I had horrible side effects from July and they are still happening now, I have had every test done (ultrasounds, blood test, endoscopes, ect.) and everything came back normal.
1714443 tn?1309687971 More than likely she was given depo provera.....if she hasn't gotten the needle again since Feb then it's more than likely worn off by now. http://en.wikipedia.
