Avatar f tn Quick question... which Depo are you on? There are two kinds, that I'm aware of: Depo Provera or Depo Lupron. I had tried the Provera when I was about 16 for about a year. I had to stop because I could not handle the side effects any longer. I did spot for about 3 months. It usually takes a few months for your system to get used to it. The Lupron stops your period completely and basically puts your body into menopause, which is the one I am currently on.

Avatar n tn Breakthrough bleeding and really long periods are common side effects on depo provera. It's actually one of the reasons most women stop using it. Unfortunately, because it's an injectible birth control method, there isn't much you or your doctor can do if you are having unpleasant side effects. You just have to wait for the 3 months to be over and your body to either adjust to it, or to see if it just won't work for you.
Avatar n tn The Depo is one of the most effective birth controls on the market, but has some side effects that put women off. (I'd never personally use it. I went with a non-hormonal IUD) Side effects you might get are odd spotting, heavy/lighter than normal periods and over time no period, weight gain (this is a real common one) headaches, breast tenderness and a few other I can't think of. You can google for a proper list of side effects and the number of women who experience them.
Avatar n tn My girlfriend started using the depo-provera shot about a month ago. We abstained from sex for a week after the injection just to be safe. Two weeks after the injection we had to make a visit to her family practice doctor because we had a hunch that she had a bladder infection. We were right. The doctor prescribed her to take 250 mg of Ciprofloxacin twice daily and of course Phenazopyridine for the pain.
Avatar m tn I have read what feels like hundreds of stories about the Depo shot and how people have bleed all year with it, or have some of the side effects that the FDA said are pretty uncommon? Avatar f tn not me.. but FYI I HATED depo. I was on that **** for about 3 yrs. it was horrible, I gained 50lbs and had all sorts of side effects.(I managed to lose 20 or so) BUT i was one of those women who got their period the next month after missing/stopping their shot. I wound up getting on Nuvaring for 3 mo. started gaining weight w/that, and got off all bc to use Natural Family Planning instead. Well... It worked for about 2 mo. until DH decided to mess around w/out protection 3 days before O.

Avatar f tn Hi I was wondering if anyone experienced negative side effects from the depo shot? Normal birth contrl pills make me extremely nauseous due to the estrogen, and I can't tolerate it. From my understanding depo does not contain estrogen?
1394877 tn?1280265360 Welcome to the side effects of Depo Provera! :) It takes A LOT of time to get used to the drug and yes, all that you're experiencing with the mood swings, lower abdominal pains, etc. are just normal side effects. Damaging to someone is a possibility. Did the doctor explain to you the side effects and what happens to your bones the longer you're on the stuff? I was on it for 3 years and had... somewhat problems at the end.
Avatar f tn However, I have not really experienced anything out of the ordinary. In fact, any side effects I had when I was on the pill, I have not had with the shot. BC works different for everyone, though. I think if you want something to counteract, you might talk to your doctor. Or maybe, for your anxiety, try to start meditating or start doing things like yoga. I know that they really help with those kinds of things. I can't say what to do about the hot flashes.
Avatar f tn I am on my 3rd depo injection as of feb and i will not be going for the 4th one.... this shot is horrible!!!
