1394877 tn?1280265360 Welcome to the side effects of Depo Provera! :) It takes A LOT of time to get used to the drug and yes, all that you're experiencing with the mood swings, lower abdominal pains, etc. are just normal side effects. Damaging to someone is a possibility. Did the doctor explain to you the side effects and what happens to your bones the longer you're on the stuff? I was on it for 3 years and had... somewhat problems at the end.
Avatar f tn I lost my virginity on March 12th which was unprotected sex with only precum plus I’m pretty sure it did not enter inside me. 4 days later I received my First Depo Provera shot. I had a period that went from the end of February on to the beginning of March so I didn’t expect another one that month of course. Plus losing my virginity I thought would throw it off. It is now April 14 & still no period. I highly doubt that I’m pregnant. I’m expecting my period later this month.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am 17, I am on Depo Provera and am having side effects such as constant bleeding (1 month and half) and the common mood changes. I was told that if I take estrogen I can minimize the bleeding or even stop it...However I was informed by a nurse that due to breast cancer running in my family if I starting to take an estrogen pill so early it can potentially make my risk of breast cancer even higher for the future.
Avatar f tn Most likely, these are side effects from the Depo, but you might want to contact your health care provider and have a check up just to be sure. Also, even when using Depo or the pill...I highly recommend condoms. Condoms not only offer additional protection against pregnancy, they also help prevent sexually transmitted infections. You or your partner can have an infection and not know it...and unknowingly pass it on.
Avatar n tn I would never reconmend this as a birth control for anybody. Depo has some pretty bad side effects, to mood swings and heavy bleeding. Some women stop a period altogther while on depo and once they stop depo, periods sometimes do not return as normal.
Avatar f tn I will try it but I am so sensitive to all medication side effects. I had issues on Sprintec. The dr said if Provera doesnt work its either Lupron or Hysterectomy. I dont want a hyster so I may have to try Lupron. Thanks for your input.
1891325 tn?1321122976 Depo provera's side effects: • Depression. Several studies report that these occur in less than 5% of users. But should you have a tendency or already suffering from depression then you are more susceptible to this side effect. • Emotional liability, nervousness, fatigue, depression, dizziness. One injection will likely be out in three months. Still, it depends on your muscle as it is a muscular deposit. Seems like you have premenstrual syndrome. Actually, pill 24/4 can help you with that.
Avatar f tn How long after delivery Can you get the depo-shot? And what side effects did the shot have on you? I heard it makes you gain weight and have terrible mood swings.
Avatar m tn I would be particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has had similar side effects. Did your side effects fade gradually? Im just worried because my moods are getting so unpredictable and its difficult to deal with. Thanks!
1936550 tn?1348360208 Just want to know my options on birth control. Ones that wont give me mood swings or weight gain, or other major side effects. I've read on the pill labels that it can cause ovarian cysts. My mom had them because of the pills and I saw the amount of pain she was in. Before all I used was condoms but I don't want to worry every month if I'm pregnant or not. My plan is to be on it for two years only then go back to condoms.
Avatar n tn I have experienced so many negative side effects (headaches, mood swings, depression, fatigue, bloating, decreased sex drive), which is why I might go back to using the pill. The weight gain is one of my biggest problems and insecurities as of right now. Trying to get ready in the mornings and having my pants not fit me anymore is extremely discouraging. I just want to know if its even possible to lose weight while on the depo with workouts and good diet?
Avatar m tn Hello, I have been given my FIRST depo-provera shot earlier this month, and it was not within my cycle - it was the 11th day afterwards. I had unprotected sex the following day, and am very worried I may be pregnant. Since I did not wait the seven days. I am extremely nauseous, getting bad headaches every two-three days, tender breasts, mood swings and today, I had a strong and sharp cramping feeling that lasted for less than thirty seconds, repeated and then stopped.
Avatar f tn I got it a month ago and my first time side effects are too much. I bleed for weeks head hurt on ad off, bones hurt under ribs ache on and off, i been mood breaking out and irrated on and off down there from pads.
3105573 tn?1355979465 depression and mood swings so bad it almost ended my relationship. Depo Provera is used as a chemical sterilizer for sex offenders. Probably the single most effective birth control barring a hysterectomy! It does not have that effect in all women but I would be extremely careful with it. I love the NuvaRing but if you are going to breastfeed you won't be able to use it because of the progesterone. If you can not be consist with pills I would look into an intrauterine device (IUD).
Avatar f tn Irregular menstrual periods, or no periods at all Headaches Nervousness Depression Dizziness Acne Changes in appetite Weight gain Excessive growth of facial and body hair Hair loss Loss of bone mineral density Most of the side effects are not common. Change in the menstrual cycle is the most common side effect. You may experience irregular bleeding or spotting. After a year of use, about 50% of women will stop getting their periods. Their periods usually return when they discontinue the shots.
Avatar f tn The Mirena IUD worked just fine for me, but some women have it and get pregnant anyway. The pill works great for some people and gives other people horrific mood swings. The Depo-Provera injection works great for lots of people but causes significant weight gain in others. Barrier methods are great but condoms can break or may be used incorrectly. There's no way to make an effective birth control that has no side effects for anyone. Our bodies are all different.
1815045 tn?1316798844 So I used to take the depo provera shot awhile back but i got off it due to the violent mood swings i was having; And I never got back on it and ending up having a kid, and then me n his father broke up and i never got another partner so I never needed to get back on birth control... Well I got with a new partner so I began taking the depo provera again and this time things are going smooth bled for the first 2 weeks and then the bleeding stopped.
Avatar f tn Hello, One of the most common side effects of Depo, is nervousness and possible depression. There are more facts that you can read about if you google 'Depo-Provera Facts and Side Effects'. If you have serious anxiety or depression, this may not be the birth control for you ~ speak with your doctor about this first before you decide...
Avatar f tn Could i be pregnant again or are these side effects of post partum or the depo. I also have hypothyroidism. not sure of current levels. and not taking meds steadly.
Avatar f tn Pregnancy occurring during the use of the shot is usually an undetected pregnancy before the shot is given. One of the side effects of Depo-Provera is irregular menstrual bleeding. 50% of women will stop getting their period after 1 year of the shot. The period usually returns after stopping the shots, however, it can take 3 months to a year for the effects of Depo-Provera to wear off and fertility to return.
Avatar f tn Quick question... which Depo are you on? There are two kinds, that I'm aware of: Depo Provera or Depo Lupron. I had tried the Provera when I was about 16 for about a year. I had to stop because I could not handle the side effects any longer. I did spot for about 3 months. It usually takes a few months for your system to get used to it. The Lupron stops your period completely and basically puts your body into menopause, which is the one I am currently on.

202436 tn?1326474333 t planning on using any birth control after I had Lily, we were just gonna go with natural family planning. Well at my doc appt today he suggested the depo provera shot may help with milk production since I'm having an issue with it due to anemia. I went ahead and got the shot becuase I figured it was worth trying to see if it WILL help AND with the anemia problems right now it's probably best that I elminate as much risk of pregnancy as possible for awhile.
