777396 tn?1329787551 She is having me do some tests, but says that I more than likely have PCOS. She wants me to take Medroxyprogesterone (Provera) to get my periods regulated. I first wanted to know about side effects. Second I was reading that this particular drug is not recommended as it could cause some sort of pregnancy issue. Wasn't sure about if that was fact or myth. Any input is appreciated.
Avatar f tn There is little or no increased risk of birth defects in women who have inadvertently been exposed to medroxyprogesterone acetate injections in early pregnancy. Discuss it with your attending gynecologist and get your doubts clarified. You may need regular follow ups and ultrasound during pregnancy to rule out any abnormality. Hope it helped. Best luck and regards!

Avatar m tn One example is Medroxyprogesterone acetate, which is an antiandrogen. This is used in cases where men feel that they cannot control their sexual impulses. The Medroxyprogesterone acetate will control urges and also may diminish pre-occupation which should make it easier to practice self-control.

There are more facts that you can read about if you google 'Depo-Provera Facts and Side Effects'. Avatar f tn Pregnancy occurring during the use of the shot is usually an undetected pregnancy before the shot is given. One of the side effects of Depo-Provera is irregular menstrual bleeding. 50% of women will stop getting their period after 1 year of the shot. The period usually returns after stopping the shots, however, it can take 3 months to a year for the effects of Depo-Provera to wear off and fertility to return.
Avatar f tn Quick question... which Depo are you on? There are two kinds, that I'm aware of: Depo Provera or Depo Lupron. I had tried the Provera when I was about 16 for about a year. I had to stop because I could not handle the side effects any longer. I did spot for about 3 months. It usually takes a few months for your system to get used to it. The Lupron stops your period completely and basically puts your body into menopause, which is the one I am currently on.
Avatar f tn I got the prescription from the doctor to take 10mg/day of MEDROXYPROGESTERONE ACETATE. However, since I started taking the medicine too late, 2 days after I took the medicine, I still had my period, so I stopped taking it. On May 13th, I had unprotected sex. My question is: is it safe to get pregnant within a month after taking 20mg of MEDROXYPROGESTERONE ACETATE? Many thanks!
Avatar f tn I've been on Depo Provera for almost a year but i've decided to not get my next shot in two weeks i'm not wanting to get pregnant anytime soon but I'm wondering how long will it take for the Hormones to leave my body and what kind of side effects should I expect?
Avatar f tn Can the depo-provera shot be given in between periods and still be affective? What would the effects of this be?
Avatar f tn i decided to not go on any other birth control for awhile. What are the side effects of coming off the Depo Provera and is it ok to not be on any birthcontrol at all for awhile??
Avatar f tn Seeing how you said the 3 month injection you mean like Depo Provera. I was on Depo for 3 years and it seems to sound as though you're dealing with the issues of the side effects of the birth control. It happens and really sometimes you get them sooner or in your case later.
Avatar n tn What are the side effects of depo provera?
Avatar f tn re talking about is a birth control shot also called Depo-Provera. This is not a pill that you would take for five days it is a shot you would get in your doctors office. This is a type of birth control, you need to get the shot every three months if you were trying to prevent a pregnancy. There is a delay in returning to fertility that may be between 3 and 18 months depending on the woman. It also stops menstrual cycles in a lot of women.
Avatar f tn It is important to take a calcium supplement while using depo provera. Weight gain is probably the worst side effect. Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn Breakthrough bleeding and really long periods are common side effects on depo provera. It's actually one of the reasons most women stop using it. Unfortunately, because it's an injectible birth control method, there isn't much you or your doctor can do if you are having unpleasant side effects. You just have to wait for the 3 months to be over and your body to either adjust to it, or to see if it just won't work for you.
Avatar n tn The Depo is one of the most effective birth controls on the market, but has some side effects that put women off. (I'd never personally use it. I went with a non-hormonal IUD) Side effects you might get are odd spotting, heavy/lighter than normal periods and over time no period, weight gain (this is a real common one) headaches, breast tenderness and a few other I can't think of. You can google for a proper list of side effects and the number of women who experience them.
Avatar f tn Like what is the general time frame after you take you last pill of Provera/Medroxyprogesterone. Also has Metformin and Provera worked for anyone without having the other things as well. Also what do I expect if have to get to the shot phase. I've been on clomid before and it worked for me, but is this something that i should ask for right away or follow the outline that my RE has for me? As always anyhelp is good help, so please help...if you can!

Avatar n tn My girlfriend started using the depo-provera shot about a month ago. We abstained from sex for a week after the injection just to be safe. Two weeks after the injection we had to make a visit to her family practice doctor because we had a hunch that she had a bladder infection. We were right. The doctor prescribed her to take 250 mg of Ciprofloxacin twice daily and of course Phenazopyridine for the pain.
Avatar m tn I have read what feels like hundreds of stories about the Depo shot and how people have bleed all year with it, or have some of the side effects that the FDA said are pretty uncommon? I am 33 yrs old not children and don't plan on having any. I wanted to use the Depo as a form of birth control so that my boyfriend and I don't have to worry about the possibility of getting pregnant. Is the depo shot as bad as people are saying it is? Avatar f tn I think you should talk with you doctor to see whats going on and also that you should of check out the side effects before getting on the Depo Provera shot because Deop can cause Irregular, heavy, or no bleeding are common side effects of Depo Provera. After a year of use, many women stop having periods. Lack of a period becomes increasingly common with longer use but since your period hasn't stop you should see your doctor.
