One of the side effects of Depo-Provera is irregular menstrual bleeding. 50% of women will stop getting their period after 1 year of the shot. The period usually returns after stopping the shots, however, it can take 3 months to a year for the effects of Depo-Provera to wear off and fertility to return.
Avatar f tn Quick question... which Depo are you on? There are two kinds, that I'm aware of: Depo Provera or Depo Lupron. I had tried the Provera when I was about 16 for about a year. I had to stop because I could not handle the side effects any longer. I did spot for about 3 months. It usually takes a few months for your system to get used to it. The Lupron stops your period completely and basically puts your body into menopause, which is the one I am currently on.
Avatar n tn The Depo is one of the most effective birth controls on the market, but has some side effects that put women off. (I'd never personally use it. I went with a non-hormonal IUD) Side effects you might get are odd spotting, heavy/lighter than normal periods and over time no period, weight gain (this is a real common one) headaches, breast tenderness and a few other I can't think of. You can google for a proper list of side effects and the number of women who experience them.
Avatar f tn i have tried everything, from lupron, to laparoscopies, to yaz, to smoking marijuana - currently i am on Depo Provera and have been for the past year and a half. I am noticing a lot of side affects from this as time goes on, and unfortunately for me this has been the only thing that even remotely helps, and i still have a lot of pain.
1394877 tn?1280265360 Welcome to the side effects of Depo Provera! :) It takes A LOT of time to get used to the drug and yes, all that you're experiencing with the mood swings, lower abdominal pains, etc. are just normal side effects. Damaging to someone is a possibility. Did the doctor explain to you the side effects and what happens to your bones the longer you're on the stuff? I was on it for 3 years and had... somewhat problems at the end.
Avatar f tn I think you should talk with you doctor to see whats going on and also that you should of check out the side effects before getting on the Depo Provera shot because Deop can cause Irregular, heavy, or no bleeding are common side effects of Depo Provera. After a year of use, many women stop having periods. Lack of a period becomes increasingly common with longer use but since your period hasn't stop you should see your doctor.
Avatar f tn Can the depo-provera shot be given in between periods and still be affective? What would the effects of this be?
Avatar f tn Hi I was wondering if anyone experienced negative side effects from the depo shot? Normal birth contrl pills make me extremely nauseous due to the estrogen, and I can't tolerate it. From my understanding depo does not contain estrogen?
Avatar n tn My girlfriend started using the depo-provera shot about a month ago. We abstained from sex for a week after the injection just to be safe. Two weeks after the injection we had to make a visit to her family practice doctor because we had a hunch that she had a bladder infection. We were right. The doctor prescribed her to take 250 mg of Ciprofloxacin twice daily and of course Phenazopyridine for the pain.
Avatar f tn Seeing how you said the 3 month injection you mean like Depo Provera. I was on Depo for 3 years and it seems to sound as though you're dealing with the issues of the side effects of the birth control. It happens and really sometimes you get them sooner or in your case later.
Avatar f tn I would like someones opinion if their is a way to counteract these side effects or if I should just switch? I just really like the depo because so is very reliable for my-self. Please I would love some opinions.
Avatar n tn Breakthrough bleeding and really long periods are common side effects on depo provera. It's actually one of the reasons most women stop using it. Unfortunately, because it's an injectible birth control method, there isn't much you or your doctor can do if you are having unpleasant side effects. You just have to wait for the 3 months to be over and your body to either adjust to it, or to see if it just won't work for you.
Avatar n tn Were you told about all the side effects depo could have? Did you start taking a calcium supplement? I started Depo march 2003 and gained within the year 60lbs. I had saver chest pain, and went to get an ekg. I had severe head aches that came about suddenly. I had dizzy spell at random times and most important I was never told to take calcium until my last shot in may of last year. After taking that last shot I was given my first pamphlet about depo and it's side affects.
1305767 tn?1361192676 You may want to ask your doc to check for problems stemming from the presence of H. pylori. Many with gastritis resulting from H. pylori say they 'never feel full.' Upper R-side pain through to the back might indicate gallbladder issues, but can also be related to gastritis in some individuals. Also check to see if the Depo might be contributing to the symptoms you're experiencing.
Avatar f tn ve always had messed up, not 1 normal menstruation since I was 16 (now 32), amazingly I have had the most predictable period since, just about every 28 days on the day, since my last depo sit. The insert (yes I actually read it, lol) said there are so many side effects even beginning with the 1 ever dose. I would make an appt with ur "girly" doc just 2 be sure it's not something else.
Avatar n tn So far I have not started to spot and have been feeling nauseous, is nausea a common side affect of stopping the depo or could it be something else?
Avatar m tn I have read what feels like hundreds of stories about the Depo shot and how people have bleed all year with it, or have some of the side effects that the FDA said are pretty uncommon? I am 33 yrs old not children and don't plan on having any. I wanted to use the Depo as a form of birth control so that my boyfriend and I don't have to worry about the possibility of getting pregnant. Is the depo shot as bad as people are saying it is? NEED HELP!!!
746098 tn?1232912961 What type of contraception are you on? If you are taking depo-provera i would seriously recommend you stop using this asap. I had the same symptoms as yourself and was diagnosed with depression, i wasn't depressed it was the side effects of the depo -provera. Also if you do ever plan on having kids it could take up to years after coming off of this pill for your body to regulate. I regret ever taking this for of contraception as my body is still completely messed up. Hope this helps!!
