Avatar f tn I've been on Depo Provera for almost a year but i've decided to not get my next shot in two weeks i'm not wanting to get pregnant anytime soon but I'm wondering how long will it take for the Hormones to leave my body and what kind of side effects should I expect?
Avatar n tn The Depo is one of the most effective birth controls on the market, but has some side effects that put women off. (I'd never personally use it. I went with a non-hormonal IUD) Side effects you might get are odd spotting, heavy/lighter than normal periods and over time no period, weight gain (this is a real common one) headaches, breast tenderness and a few other I can't think of. You can google for a proper list of side effects and the number of women who experience them.
Avatar m tn I have read what feels like hundreds of stories about the Depo shot and how people have bleed all year with it, or have some of the side effects that the FDA said are pretty uncommon? I am 33 yrs old not children and don't plan on having any. I wanted to use the Depo as a form of birth control so that my boyfriend and I don't have to worry about the possibility of getting pregnant. Is the depo shot as bad as people are saying it is? NEED HELP!!!
Avatar f tn Hello, One of the most common side effects of Depo, is nervousness and possible depression. There are more facts that you can read about if you google 'Depo-Provera Facts and Side Effects'. If you have serious anxiety or depression, this may not be the birth control for you ~ speak with your doctor about this first before you decide...

After a year of use, many women stop having periods. Lack of a period becomes increasingly common with longer use but since your period hasn't stop you should see your doctor.
Avatar f tn Seeing how you said the 3 month injection you mean like Depo Provera. I was on Depo for 3 years and it seems to sound as though you're dealing with the issues of the side effects of the birth control. It happens and really sometimes you get them sooner or in your case later.
Avatar f tn It is important to take a calcium supplement while using depo provera. Weight gain is probably the worst side effect. Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn My girlfriend started using the depo-provera shot about a month ago. We abstained from sex for a week after the injection just to be safe. Two weeks after the injection we had to make a visit to her family practice doctor because we had a hunch that she had a bladder infection. We were right. The doctor prescribed her to take 250 mg of Ciprofloxacin twice daily and of course Phenazopyridine for the pain.
Avatar f tn The only minor side effects I did have was mild cramping after the shot, and headaches. Although once I got off depo that was different. My hair started to fall out, I gained weight, headaches were worse and so on. This pregnancy happened 2 months after being off birth control completely, and while hubby had a vesectomy. So the only real birth control i think is no sex.....which is damn near impossibale lol.
Avatar n tn What is the best way to do this? Everyone talks about the Depo Provera, but what is the side effects and would this by any chance bring problems in the near future when we want to concieve a baby?
Avatar n tn Hello I just got my cycle back after being on the depo provera shot and it been down since 12-18-2010 I wondering when will be the best time to try for a baby?
Avatar n tn Breakthrough bleeding and really long periods are common side effects on depo provera. It's actually one of the reasons most women stop using it. Unfortunately, because it's an injectible birth control method, there isn't much you or your doctor can do if you are having unpleasant side effects. You just have to wait for the 3 months to be over and your body to either adjust to it, or to see if it just won't work for you.
Avatar f tn Quick question... which Depo are you on? There are two kinds, that I'm aware of: Depo Provera or Depo Lupron. I had tried the Provera when I was about 16 for about a year. I had to stop because I could not handle the side effects any longer. I did spot for about 3 months. It usually takes a few months for your system to get used to it. The Lupron stops your period completely and basically puts your body into menopause, which is the one I am currently on.
Avatar n tn I have been on Depo Provera for 13 years. I have not had a period in probably 10 years or longer. I got the flu and started taking flu medicine and two days later all of the sudden - a period. I am freaking out. What would cause a sudden period after such a long absence? I want it to go away NOW. Did the flu medicine kill my depo shot?
7019649 tn?1396792517 Im using depo provera i loved it and had no side effects except my period being irregular the first 3 months
Avatar f tn Hi there, It is known that women who use Depo-Provera may lose significant bone mineral density. It is more common after using depo for increasing duration of use and may not be completely reversible. It is advisable to avoid using it for more than 2 years .The exact cause of your pains in knee joint is due to depo or some other cause can be confirmed only after a thorough evaluation. You also need to consider other possibilities of joint pain like rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout etc.
Avatar f tn We just found out we are five weeks along, after taking the Provera three weeks ago (after a negative pregnancy test).
Avatar f tn I HAD MY THIRD SON IN SEPT AND HAD ONE DEPO SHOT TO TIDE ME OVER TILL THE DOC WAS AVAILABLE TO GIVE ME THE IMPLANON. AFTER 4 WEEKS OF GETTING THE SHOT, ALL THE SIDE EFFECTS STARTED AGAIN. 1394877 tn?1280265360 Welcome to the side effects of Depo Provera! :) It takes A LOT of time to get used to the drug and yes, all that you're experiencing with the mood swings, lower abdominal pains, etc. are just normal side effects. Damaging to someone is a possibility. Did the doctor explain to you the side effects and what happens to your bones the longer you're on the stuff? I was on it for 3 years and had... somewhat problems at the end.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the reply! I was kinda nervous to start the depo shot, with all the side effects that I have heard that it has. I am glad to know that you haven't had many side effects at all! Hopefully I have the same. I'll let you know how it goes! Good luck with your upcoming surgery, I hope everything goes great! Let me know how it goes!

I haven't missed a tablet and I'm on the highest does to stop bleeding, and I would not have a clue when my period would occur in the month as I was all over the place and had extremely long ones such as 48days. Yeah I had unsafe sex but he pulled out a little while before anything happend... how long after falling pregnant would I start to have symptoms though?
6789572 tn?1395629939 I only have a few weeks left I'm 35 weeks this Thursday and doctors are thinking he's gonna come early. I want to get in birth control after I have the baby because sometimes we just can't get the right condoms for us. (I am either allergic to the material or lube or they don't fit him). We will use condoms or he will pull out most of the time while I'm on birth control. Anyway we have talked about different ones to use for me.
