Avatar n tn I have been on Depo Provera for 13 years. I have not had a period in probably 10 years or longer. I got the flu and started taking flu medicine and two days later all of the sudden - a period. I am freaking out. What would cause a sudden period after such a long absence? I want it to go away NOW. Did the flu medicine kill my depo shot?
Avatar f tn I went off Depo Provera a year and 2 months ago. I started the pill dec 2011 and stopped it June 16. I got a period June 21 and then again on aug 1st (although I expected it July 19th). So this would put me at a 40day cycle I'm thinking. So my husband and i have been active multiple times during ovulation and about every other day otherwise. I expected my period on sept 11th but it is now the 15th and both pregnancy tests were negative. Could I still be pregnant?
1978422 tn?1326152277 I started on depo provera shots for the second time when my third child was born in 2008. My last shot was In January of 2011. I'm trying to conceive but I've only spotted twice since stopping the shots. Once in October and once in December. Do you have any advice?
Avatar n tn s possible you could be pregnant, I got pregnant while on the pill, so things happen! And I just looked up Provera harming the baby and I found this; If I become pregnant on the pill or on Provera will it harm my baby? The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology has done studies to prove that the pill does not cause fetal abnormalities if taken during pregnancy. Of course, you should stop taking the pill as soon as possible when you find out you are pregnant.
Avatar f tn I think I can help you out. So depo provera, the shot, is made up of the hormone Progesterone. Progesterone is used by the woman's body to build up our endometerium, the lining of the uterus which is shed off during one's period. By taking depo provera you are consistently having the hormone progesterone released in your body for 3 months. Increasing the intake of this hormone in your body can cause prolonged periods and heavy spotting.

Avatar f tn Hello, I was just wondering if anyone out there knows anything about the long term use of Depo-Provera Contraceptive. I have been using it for a few years now, and have no plans of stopping using it anytime soon, as I am in college and will be for quite some time to come. I know that I am putting myself at risk for Osteoporosis by using it for a long time. But what I don't know is considering the fact that since being on Depo, I have had pretty much no menstrual cycle for a very long time.
746098 tn?1232912961 If you are taking depo-provera i would seriously recommend you stop using this asap. I had the same symptoms as yourself and was diagnosed with depression, i wasn't depressed it was the side effects of the depo -provera. Also if you do ever plan on having kids it could take up to years after coming off of this pill for your body to regulate. I regret ever taking this for of contraception as my body is still completely messed up. Hope this helps!!
Avatar f tn t want to have to remember to take the pill everyday. I started having sex a little before I was getting the depo shot, and sex was good. It was enjoyable, I wanted to have sex and it felt nice as it should. Soon after I took the depo shot, my libido went away. Completely. No desire for anything, sex hurt, and it made me miserable. At the time I knew it was the shot, but I don't think I wanted to believe it. My boyfriend at the time and I started going down while, so I blamed it on that.
Avatar f tn I tried doubling up on the nasal spray since I was prescribed the wrong strength, but it did not help. I had my second Depo Provera shot on December 7. I thought it would help make the bleeding stop, but I am still bleeding. I have also tried a estrogen pill I was prescribed, but it has not helped. I know I will have light bleeding on the Depo Provera, but is it normal to be bleeding for 37 days? I have not felt like myself lately and I am having trouble doing my everyday activities.
Avatar n tn My girlfriend started using the depo-provera shot about a month ago. We abstained from sex for a week after the injection just to be safe. Two weeks after the injection we had to make a visit to her family practice doctor because we had a hunch that she had a bladder infection. We were right. The doctor prescribed her to take 250 mg of Ciprofloxacin twice daily and of course Phenazopyridine for the pain.
Avatar n tn I had the same problem as Nickie5. I had two healthy childred, I was on Depo-Provera for about 3 years. When I stopped taking the injections I bleed for 3 months straight. My cycle hasn't been the same since (about 10 years now). From start to finish, it lasts appx. 2 weeks!!! I have also had 2 miscarriages and would like to know what to do (if anything) to reverse the damage (if any).
Avatar f tn I was on depo provera for 3 years and got my last injection in october 2008 its been 15 months and i have not had a period... i was given provera for 10 days with no results and bc pills for 4months and still nothing... i also had a pelvic ultrasound and everything was ok... me and my husband are trying to concieve but have had no luck... is there anything else i can do to get a period. please help!
Avatar n tn The whole point of the provera is to kick start a period.. Its doesn't have "withdraw bleeding. I was told that if I hadn't gotten a normal period in 2 weeks to go back as something could be wrong. But luckily.. My period started that night without the meds .
801413 tn?1333539276 How long did it take, what method were you using? Estimate from the time the contraception was no longer "effective" (24 hours after the pill, 13 weeks after depo provera, immediately after IUD removal, immediately after stopping condom use) Long-term methods for this poll would include the hormonal IUD, Depo Provera (the shot), and Implanon or other birth control implants.
Avatar f tn @nessa The copper iud is hormone free, the depo provera shot is progestin only, as is the mini pill. Those are all good options. Iud is long term, depo is every twelve weeks, pill is daily.
