depo-provera

Avatar f tn Can the depo-provera shot be given in between periods and still be affective? What would the effects of this be?
Avatar f tn H If you were my patient, i would advise you that the depo provera injection can be an excellent method of birth control. It is 99% effective and requires only that the patient have 4 injections per year. It is important to take a calcium supplement while using depo provera. Weight gain is probably the worst side effect. Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn My girlfriend started using the depo-provera shot about a month ago. We abstained from sex for a week after the injection just to be safe. Two weeks after the injection we had to make a visit to her family practice doctor because we had a hunch that she had a bladder infection. We were right. The doctor prescribed her to take 250 mg of Ciprofloxacin twice daily and of course Phenazopyridine for the pain.
Avatar n tn I have been on the depo for 5 years and have recently stopped. My injection was due a few days ago but I did not get it. On previous occasions if I have had the injection a couple of days before it was due I would start to spot which would last about a week. So far I have not started to spot and have been feeling nauseous, is nausea a common side affect of stopping the depo or could it be something else?
Avatar f tn I am on my 3rd depo injection as of feb and i will not be going for the 4th one.... this shot is horrible!!!
Avatar f tn Hello, The effects of the depo provera may last after several months after the last injection. The non return of the periods is likely due to the effects of the depo provera which remains in the body for 6-12 months after the last injection. I hope it helps. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.

Avatar f tn Hi Elana, Google Depo shot side effects, there not very nice, surggest you read them, not sure how often you have them, but you should think about coming of them, but that is your choice.
746098 tn?1232912961 What type of contraception are you on? If you are taking depo-provera i would seriously recommend you stop using this asap. I had the same symptoms as yourself and was diagnosed with depression, i wasn't depressed it was the side effects of the depo -provera. Also if you do ever plan on having kids it could take up to years after coming off of this pill for your body to regulate. I regret ever taking this for of contraception as my body is still completely messed up. Hope this helps!!
1394877 tn?1280265360 Welcome to the side effects of Depo Provera! :) It takes A LOT of time to get used to the drug and yes, all that you're experiencing with the mood swings, lower abdominal pains, etc. are just normal side effects. Damaging to someone is a possibility. Did the doctor explain to you the side effects and what happens to your bones the longer you're on the stuff? I was on it for 3 years and had... somewhat problems at the end.
Avatar f tn I have had the depo provera shot once and never went back for the second one October 1st. I wanted to know if I should have had my period by now?
Avatar f tn Irregular menstrual periods, or no periods at all Headaches Nervousness Depression Dizziness Acne Changes in appetite Weight gain Excessive growth of facial and body hair Hair loss Loss of bone mineral density Most of the side effects are not common. Change in the menstrual cycle is the most common side effect. You may experience irregular bleeding or spotting. After a year of use, about 50% of women will stop getting their periods. Their periods usually return when they discontinue the shots.
Avatar m tn I have read at length about many different side effects of Depo-Provera and though I never experienced hair loss as a symptom I understand that can occur after a period of treatment. I have also read about the effects of hormones and their influence on each other and am hoping that this is an isolated incident due to the ever changing flux in my hormone levels recently.
Avatar f tn At the end of June I had received an injection on one butt cheek for depo provera... In the second week of august I noticed a dent clearly visible to the naked eyes... I feel very insecure about this! Will this type of dent heal with time or should I look into some type of filler? I don't know what to do...
Avatar f tn Is is possible that my son (who is now 16) has Autism because of Depo Provera birth control shots I received? My other 2 children are fine as I wasn't using any birth control with them. I received 2 shots and wasn't aware that I got pregnant during this time.........Is there a connection?? This discussion is related to taking depo provera while pregnant.
Avatar f tn Hello, One of the most common side effects of Depo, is nervousness and possible depression. There are more facts that you can read about if you google 'Depo-Provera Facts and Side Effects'. If you have serious anxiety or depression, this may not be the birth control for you ~ speak with your doctor about this first before you decide...
Avatar n tn No I am definitely not trying to get pregnant. I had one Depo Provera injection in November and the side effects were terrible so I haven't been back since. My period has only been back 2-3 months and I haven't found a contraceptive that agrees with my body and I've been practicing safe sex. I'm worried because I know that condoms aren't 100% safe.
Avatar f tn Pregnancy occurring during the use of the shot is usually an undetected pregnancy before the shot is given. One of the side effects of Depo-Provera is irregular menstrual bleeding. 50% of women will stop getting their period after 1 year of the shot. The period usually returns after stopping the shots, however, it can take 3 months to a year for the effects of Depo-Provera to wear off and fertility to return.
Avatar f tn Quick question... which Depo are you on? There are two kinds, that I'm aware of: Depo Provera or Depo Lupron. I had tried the Provera when I was about 16 for about a year. I had to stop because I could not handle the side effects any longer. I did spot for about 3 months. It usually takes a few months for your system to get used to it. The Lupron stops your period completely and basically puts your body into menopause, which is the one I am currently on.
4069776 tn?1349518384 Hello, I was on depo provera for 9 years, I had my last shot in Jan 2012 and was suppose to come get my next shot April 2012, My doctor informed me that it would be fine for me to just stop taking it because I did so well while I was on it and that I should be fine coming off of it, well I didnt. I had horrible side effects from July and they are still happening now, I have had every test done (ultrasounds, blood test, endoscopes, ect.) and everything came back normal.
Avatar f tn i have tried everything, from lupron, to laparoscopies, to yaz, to smoking marijuana - currently i am on Depo Provera and have been for the past year and a half. I am noticing a lot of side affects from this as time goes on, and unfortunately for me this has been the only thing that even remotely helps, and i still have a lot of pain.
