I have done research on that pill and the side effects are mainly the same. People have reported weight gain as well. I have just heard horrible things from people on depo for a long time, but I love it (except the weight issue). Since you have been on depo for a long time, what would you do? Do you think the pros outweight the cons in my situation? Is it possible to loose the weight? Why did I gain weight, loose it, and it came back? Am I just eating junk and not exercising?

Certain medications like antidepressants cause weight gain. Polycystic ovary too causes weight gain, hence has to be ruled out by an ultrasound of abdomen. Once all these causes are ruled out, then it could be due to shot, and you will be able to regain your previous weight once effect of shot goes in 3 months. Hi I am also using depo but I am able to lose weight. Just watch what you eat. Make sure they are under your daily calorie needs and exercise regularly. Walking with my baby helped me.

I was on the depo Provera for 5 yrs and I stopped about 4 yrs. ago and the effects of comming off the shot are you'll slowly get your period back, Headaches, and weight gain or decease. and since highschool my weight has always been a constant 110-115. Now I weight 130! All because of Depo. I hate hate hate this birth control. Hello, In December 2013 I was to go get my shot redone but I chose not too cause of the weight gain.. Ive been off for 2 months I went thru alot of the withdraw symptoms of the Depo shot...On Jan.31,2014 woke up to some light bleeding that lasted 1 day off and on..then spotting on Feb1st nothing on the 3,4,5...So and I have tried to be careful but sometimes not..for the record I don't mind if pregnancy does happen ..

As for the weight gain it is true but here is how it breaks down (as recently told to me by my gyno). The depo shot has a tendency to make you hungrier than usual. So, it's not arbitarily making you gain weight, it's what you put in your mouth that makes you gain weight. I didn't have any hair loss while I was on it. For me, it was the best solution at the time as I am horrible at remembering to take pills too. I'm using Nuvaring now. Hope this helps some.

I had used Depo for 3 years and never had any issues. I didnt gain wait, or anything. The only minor side effects I did have was mild cramping after the shot, and headaches. Although once I got off depo that was different. My hair started to fall out, I gained weight, headaches were worse and so on. This pregnancy happened 2 months after being off birth control completely, and while hubby had a vesectomy. So the only real birth control i think is no sex.....

Hey there, I have the same problem and they have stopped trying BCP's on me. Have you tried Depo Provera? That can work, it stops your period also. It can cause weight gain and bone density thinning and I *think* depression but its not common the depression I dont think. If you keep a balanced diet the weight gain often isnt a problem, its more an increase in apetite. Have you been back to your doctor about it? It would deffinately be worth going back, 7 months is a bit too long!

I think doctors should explain the complications of even possibly having low thyroid levels after taking Depo Provera instead of hair loss/ weight gain. I was only 18 2 years ago when I had the shot and never had another shot afterwards. Yeah it was the easiest BC and I didn't have to worry about a thing for 3 months but now I have to take Synthroid every day for the rest of my life. That was the worst thing I could have ever done to my body.

I am little confused by your question. The depo provera shot is given once every three months not for three months at some unspecified interval. If you mean that you received the depo shot 4 months ago, and hence, the last month, you did not get a repeat depo shot, then the answer to your question is, yes, you can get pregnant. I was on the depo shot for about 5 years before stopping to try to conceive. It took me 3 years to conceive my son who is 6 years old.
