Depo provera for men

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera for men

depo-provera

After being on depo provera for 1 year, I decided to discontinue use and switch to the pill. I decided to be single (and not sexually active) for a while, so I decided to wait until I got my period to start taking the pill. The only problem is that I STILL haven't had a period! It's been 6 or 7 months since I stopped getting the shots. I had normal periods while on the shot, and before I was on the shot, but once I stopped getting it my periods vanished...
I have been on depo for 11 years. I would be due for my next shot on 9/27 but my Doctor has advised that I stop having it. She has been treating me for migraines and depression with Imitrex (when needed) and a daily dosage of Prozac of 10mg. The Imitrex thankfully, works, and the migraines have also been lessened by the Prozac.
/ Only thing I could find that was concerning men taking it
I used depo provera injections for two and a half years. It's been over a year since my last injection. within the first six months after stopping the shot I gained 40lbs without a change in my diet and excercise.I was told this was unusual to gain after stopping the shot and that i may never lose the weight. Is this true? or is the only way to go back on the shot because while i was on the shot i actually lost weight.but if that's the answer won't i be trapped on the shot forever?
I had two chocolate cysts that were around 6 cm x 6 cm x 6 cm, the size of a tennis ball. My gynecologist wants me to take depo provera until I am in menopause. I am only 41. I refuse to take it afraid of all the side effects. I agree we are almost made to feel like we HAVE to take it. My surgeon was very forceful about me having to take it. She does not know I never filled the prescription. Not even willing to take Alesse the birth control pill. I am just waiting and seeing.
SWEETY THAT IS BECAUSE PROVERA IS USED TO GET YOU TO START BLEEDING NOT STOP. PROVERA IS USED FOR TREATMENT OF AMENORRHEA Amenorrhea is the absence of menstrual bleeding and may be primary or secondary. •Primary amenorrhea is the absence of menstrual bleeding and secondary sexual characteristics (for example, breast development and pubic hair) in a girl by age 14 years or the absence of menstrual bleeding with normal development of secondary sexual characteristics in a girl by age 16 years.
Depo can stay in your system anywhere from 12-24 months...for some people its different so thats not for everyone. Depo messes your body up do it could be a while or it could be tomorrow when you start. I took 2 shots of Depo and then decided to go on BCP and when I stopped the BCP's in Aug 04 I still have not had AF because the Depo is still in my system..I have used Provera twice to make me have AF. You may want to talk to your Dr and see what they think. Best of Luck!
i took the depo shot for almost 4 years and i never had a period and at first i felt kind of different but it went away.
“I have been thinking of asking for professional help for a while, because there seems to be a serious problem that I just can’t ignore. I am 32 years old, married for 7 years to a man two years my junior. Together we have four lovely children. The problem started to appear after I started my third pregnancy and lately I just can’t handle it anymore. I do not want to have sex. I do not feel the need to. If I do it does not happen more than 2 or 3 times a month.
We chose the Provera. Last night I took the last pill... I was told to take it for 5 days and then I should start my period again. She said if this period lasts longer than 2 weeks to come back. I haven't started up again yet, but it hasn't even been 24 hours since my last dose. So hopefully this turns out well.
We have been trying for a year and seven months. We ordered the fertility blend for women and men, have you heard any good news about it?? Best of wishes. keep me posted!!
I am at the point where I would give up chocolate for a year just to have a good night sleep. I used to be such a good sleeper back in the day. I'd go to bed at 10pm and be able to wake up at 10am and feel refreshed. Now, I can't fall asleep until 7-8am and sleep until 4-5pm. It has ruined my life. I've been crying myself to sleep for the past 3 weeks now. This idea of giving endo patients Depo Lupron is a mistake.
The only form of birth control I have ever used besides condoms (my first 2 pg were through condoms) was Depo Provera. I loved it until I decided i wanted to conceive. It take a long time for it to leave your system. I was on it for over 3 years beofre getting married and loved it. I didn't have a period all that time and never worried about getting pg. After having my son, I went on it again as it is only 1 of 2 forms of birth control that a woman can take while breadtfeeding.
When I came off of Depo Provera, my cycles were all over the map for 2 or 3 months at least. And if you have been using protection, it is unlikely she is pregnant, providing you are using it properly. If she is a week late, there is a small possibility she is pregnant. Regardless, taking a home pregnancy test right now will at least serve to put your mind at ease, the wondering and worrying are always the worst. If in fact she is pregnant, please don't worry too much.
I did not notice such problems and Lupron worked short term for me. However longer term I was on Depo-Provera. It work fine. I do believe that I did gain weight, but that could just be I was feeling better. I am currently not on anything, and I highly do not suggest that. I was afraid of being on the depo for 11 years may have some negative effects on my ability to have children someday. Good luck with everything!
Has any1 watched that movie called Children Of Men? It's how in the future no1 has been able to have kids for 18 yrs!! Every1 is infertile EVERY1!! And i hate to say it but my DH could be right all the chemicals they are putting in B/C is really bad and something like this could just possibly happen one day!! Ok thats my input and gripe!! Feel free to read the article and post comments!! But PLEASE let's be MedHelp friendly no being rude or yelling or insulting!! We are just opinionating here!
) Is your new birth control the depo provera shot? That CAUSES irregularity in bleeding. 2.) Even if it's not depo, yes, your body COULD be reacting to the new introduction of hormones. 3.) If you just are recovering from a yeast infection, YOU DO NOT WANT TO USE A TAMPON!!!! YOU CAN CAUSE THE YEAST TO STAY AND MULTIPLY EVEN IF IT'S ALMOST GONE!!!!! 4.
Went to my GP last week and he gave me more oxycontin controlled release,1 every 12 hours and as these are only lasting about 6 hours, he also gave me endone to take in between. I also have to take 2 panadol every 4 hours. I also had my first depo provera shot this week.It was the 4th day of my period and my period was very heavy, but the next day I had only a few spots of bleeding and today it is a little bit of brown spotting.
How true men should not shop for womens clothing I remember one gift from my husband he bought me a pair of leather gloves size small, couldnt get a hand in if I wanted to then informed me he paid like 75.00 WHAT I said. Im the 99 cent mitten type.
I'd go ahead and test... provera is supposed to start your period... no- you're not horrible for not wanting to be. I can totally understand that.
I was on Depo Provera (the shot) until Nov 04, when I was suppose to go for my next one. But it was screwing my body up I opted for BCP's and took them until Aug 05 when Hubby and I decided TTC. Well I never had a period after stopping BCP's so I was given Provera in Dec 05 and got a period...well in Jan same thing no period so I took Provera again...and got a period. The end of Feb I found out I was pregnant. Many women take provera and then clomid.
My husbads latest therory is the fact i haven't had a period in like 6 years.. i was on Depo Provera for a long time and now the Nuva Ring.. I use the ring continuously and skip periods.. been doing that for like a year.. My sex drive has been shot for about 3 year or so.. i though it was the pills.. now i have been off but its not any better.. i am gonna get my testoterone checked.. and other hormone levels... I started seeing an acupunturist for this... so far hasn't helped..
The reason why I'm asking is because women or men with hypo or hyperthyroidism lose there sex drive.Ask your doctor for thyroid blood panel.Make sure he has the lab check your t3 and t4 levels also instead of just your tsh level.I've went through the same problem for the past 9 years.I had my thyroid checked again in March of this year,it showed nornal. They only checked my tsh. They didn't check my t3 or t4.
Back before my son when I got depo provera shots I didn't get periods on that either. Most hormonal methods make periods shorter and lighter or eliminate them completely.
i took Provera from the 6 to the 13th of april on the 14th of april i had an encounter i didnt have sex but i think pre *** went on my upper thigh close to ma vagina. the next day i took pregnon emergency contraceptive (25 hours later i think) then on the 25 of april i had a heavy period last till the 2nd of May.
Ive been having irregular periods within the last few years due to depo provera. I was on it for almost 7 years since 1999; got off in 2006 to let my body adjust to normality. I was "living the single life" with protection but sometimes I wonder if there would be some kind of men would be spiteful or loving enough to end my carreer with getting me pregnant without my concent? Just like there women out there who would do that to men out there which I'd never do without thier concent..
However when women hit menpause they usually don't get them anymore. Is provera a hormone (like depo-provera)? My doc put me on Ovcon35. It seems like it is all just trial & error.
it took about 3 months for me to get a period. they've been regular for 5 consecutive months. as for being pregnant, it's not likely. just recently with in the last two weeks i started having sex again, with condoms. i will get my period around the 21st, so does that mean that im ovulating? thanks again for all the feed back.
i have noticed this problem for at least a couple of years and initially my doctor thought it was because i was in depo provera and had abnormal bleeding all the time. i have been on the pill for over 7 months and my periods are back to normal except after this occurrence following orgasm. in april i had an abnormal pap smear that indicated i had HGSIL (high-grade intraepithelial lesions) of the cervix.
