Avatar m tn Hi, i have a well grounded education in biology and chemistry, but it seems in the feild of tyhe womens response to hormones i am lacking. My girlfreind recieved the Depo Provera shot, a few days before she was expecting her period, she never got it, and it is now 3 weeks past, i can see how this may be normal, im not sure the exact role of progesterone. The reason i worry is one of pregnancy, allthough i cannot fashion it to be a possibility, anything is supposedly possibly.
Avatar f tn Hi I stopped using depo provera in November 2013. I was told it's takes about a month to leave your system. But nothing returns to normal straight away. My period didn't return until may and they were shorter in cycle length. But I've read an awful lot about the depo shots and lots of peoples body's react differently. Most take 6-12 months to return to normal, some goin as far as 18 months.

634745 tn?1256844310 Most forms of birth control do not adversely affect your fertility (the depo provera injection being the exception - you can experience delays in conceiving after using depo provera) but honestly your doctor is the best person to talk to - they know your personal history and situation. Ps - is your doctor helping you with the "womans bits" problems?
Avatar f tn I was on the depo got off it and didnt have a period for 2 yrs.. ended up having to do fertility treatments of clomid and provera...

Avatar n tn Hello all, my wife has been taking depo provera for about 8 months now. After the first shot she gained around 20lbs and since then she has had 2 more shots and has gained around 45lbs. She has about a half a month left until she is supposed to come in for the next shot but we have decided against it. She has been exercising and dieting to no avail. What could we do to help her lose the weight and will it start coming off easier after the shot wears off?
Avatar f tn Hello, Delayed periods, irregular periods and absence of periods can occur after depo shots. They are a form of long form of birth control. If you stop getting Depo-Provera injections, your period usually returns within 3 to 10 months but sometimes it may take 12-18 mths. Your periods and fertility should return soon. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn I suggest that you consult your gynecologist and get yourself examined to rule out other causes of not conceiving as it has been close to 2 years since you have stopped the depo shot and fertility should return by this time. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.

Avatar f tn Hi me and my boyfriend have been trying to conceive for quite some time now and were having no luck because I was on depo and have not gotten my period back and it's been almost eight months since my last shot so I'm having fertility problems. Does anyone know a good fertility drug that works?
Avatar f tn Ok when i was 15 my parents made me get the depo provera injection. When i was 17 i refused to take it and i am now 20 and me and my husband have been trying for a little over 2 years to get pregnant but i still haven't been able to. Im scared that the shot has made me infertile. I really want to have a baby. Can someone please give me advice on what to do? Or has anyone else experienced this with the depo shot?
1456473 tn?1365827455 Hi. Currently on depo provera. Next shot is not due until december 2015 and i would like to try conceive my 4th baby some time within the near future. Iv been researching and found you can fall pregnant anywhere between 4 months after last shot and 3 years after last shot? Also it is very bad for baby to conceive 4months after last shot or conceiving too soon? Has any one any experience on this? Madly broody.
Avatar f tn Depo provera is notorious for causing fertility issues. Even if you get your period, it can take up to a year after getting off depo to get pregnant. Are you late for your period? if you are and the home tests are still negative, wait another week and test again, and if it's still negative then go ask your doctor AGAIN for a blood test because your period is very late and the urine tests are coming up negative.
1234255 tn?1267754209 it all depends on your body, my sister fell quickly with her first 2 kids but wasn't on depo, she had 2 shots of depo and it took her 10 months to conceive with my nephew. I however was on depo for 2 and a half years and have been off of it the same length of time and have yet to conceive. As you have only had one shot i think your chances may be good but remeber a healthy couple can take from 1-2 years to conceive so don't stress too much.
Avatar f tn Hi! If you were my patient, I would advise you that the effects of the depo provera do not typically last more than 18 months. After that amount of time had passed, I would then allow one year to pass without any contraception before I would be too concerned. Finally, if that time had passed, I would begin a work up. I start with ovulation predictors and a semen analysis.
Avatar f tn I was on birth control pills for 3 years ( stopped taking them 3 years ago) and I was on Depo-Provera for 6 months (stopped getting the needles due to hair loss and constant menses) I stopped depo-provera 26 months ago. At this point my gyn has no clue what to do next and I am getting worried that I will never have a child of my own. What should my next step be, what else can I do?
Avatar f tn I am on the depo provera shot for 2 years now and me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex for the first time. Could i be pregnant? As of now i am bloated. I dont eat as much as i did before and i have occasional stomach pains and cramps. Normally this wouldn't worry me but my boyfriend was worried when we had sex because usually we use a condom. Also i randomly spot instead of a period. I spotted the whole week and once i had sex i stopped spotting? Should i be worried?

Avatar f tn Welcome to the forum! Sometimes after coming off of depo provera one has a period of time before their cycles are completely normal. You very well could just be having a longer than usual cycle. The package insert for depo provera says that fertility is back to normal 6 months to a year after stopping the shots. This is not to say that you aren't pregnant or couldn't get pregnant right now. Every woman is different and will have a unique exerience after discontinuing the shots.
