depo-provera

Avatar f tn can i take the mini-pill or the depo-provera injection even if i am taking other medicines such as pristiq, clonazepam, and tenoretic for high blood pressure?
Avatar f tn When i was receiving the depo shot the only thing it made me do was gain weight!! The doctors say that not all women gain weight on it!!
Avatar f tn I think I can help you out. So depo provera, the shot, is made up of the hormone Progesterone. Progesterone is used by the woman's body to build up our endometerium, the lining of the uterus which is shed off during one's period. By taking depo provera you are consistently having the hormone progesterone released in your body for 3 months. Increasing the intake of this hormone in your body can cause prolonged periods and heavy spotting.
Avatar f tn I tried doubling up on the nasal spray since I was prescribed the wrong strength, but it did not help. I had my second Depo Provera shot on December 7. I thought it would help make the bleeding stop, but I am still bleeding. I have also tried a estrogen pill I was prescribed, but it has not helped. I know I will have light bleeding on the Depo Provera, but is it normal to be bleeding for 37 days? I have not felt like myself lately and I am having trouble doing my everyday activities.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am 17, I am on Depo Provera and am having side effects such as constant bleeding (1 month and half) and the common mood changes. I was told that if I take estrogen I can minimize the bleeding or even stop it...However I was informed by a nurse that due to breast cancer running in my family if I starting to take an estrogen pill so early it can potentially make my risk of breast cancer even higher for the future.
Avatar f tn for the past 2 1/2 years I have been bleeding abnormally. It started when I first started the depo provera. I stayed on it for 9 months trying to work with my OB GYN to figure out why I was bleeding so much. She put me on estrogen pills because I'm a small person and didn't have the fat cells to store the estrogen. I bled more when I took the pills so I stopped taking them and just got off the shot.
Avatar f tn Hi, Further to my previous post -fyi-endometric chocolate cyst removed in Nov 2008, given depo provera one a month for 3 months (dec08, jan09, feb09). It took a while for my periods to return, I got it June09 and July09 but not after that. So my dr in order induce periods put me on Meprate (medoxyprogesterone) from 9thSep to 16th Sep (7 days) ,two pills a day.
Avatar f tn Ive heard that the depo is the best out there. except the fact that it can weaken your bones and make you gain weight. but if you havent stopped your period in 4 months you should deff. call your dr cause that doesnt sound right at all.
Avatar f tn Hmm, breast tenderness is usually a side effect of estrogen excess - but I thought shots were mostly progesterone, like Depo Provera? Which shot are you on?
280418 tn?1306325910 I stopped the pill and started Depo Provera injections, and the migraines ceased. Now, 10 years later, they started again. I have had 3 in two weeks. Interestingly enough, I had a couple this summer (hadn't been on the pill in years). I started the pill (Yaz) this Jan. and now the migraines have really increased in frequency. I stopped the pill last night to see if they at least decrease in frequency. Does any research support an increase/onset of migraines with taking the pill?
Avatar f tn d have to check on the implant bit I know the shot (depo provera), the mini pill, and the mirena are all safe with nursing.

4364093 tn?1365869659 Thanks :) im only 20 weeks but was just thinking about it.
Avatar f tn @nessa The copper iud is hormone free, the depo provera shot is progestin only, as is the mini pill. Those are all good options. Iud is long term, depo is every twelve weeks, pill is daily.
Avatar n tn I have been on depo provera for 3 years and haven't had a period. Have you both checked with your doctors about this? Good luck!
Avatar n tn The implanon and depo provera release the hormones progesterone. THis is the hormone that makes up your endometerium, which is shed off during your period. So by consistently taking progesterone it will increase the buildup of your endometerium increasing the rate of spotting or having prolonged periods. To avoid this problem I suggest taking estrogen only or combination birth control (estrogen and progesterone) i.e.
Avatar m tn I have a problem and am unsure what do to to help. Any advice is very much appreciated. My fiance and I have been dating for over 2 years (he is 24, I am 20). When we first began having sex, everything went smoothly. About a year after we met, we began to have sex less often (once a week as opposed to 2-3 times). Within the last 6 months or so, sex has become almost unbearable for me due to vaginal pain. Due to this, we have sex maybe once a month now.
Avatar f tn Other forms of medroxyprogesterone, such as Depo-Provera, are used as a contraceptive injection and prescribed in the treatment of endometrial cancer. Some doctors prescribe Provera to treat endometriosis, menopausal symptoms, premenstrual tension, sexual aggressive behavior in men, and sleep apnea (temporary failure to breathe while sleeping). Avatar f tn You had started with Depo provera shots in late June and have got prolonged bleeding since July. I assure you that there is no need to panic. Heavy and prolonged bleeding are common side effects of starting Depo shots and usually it takes 3 months for such menstrual irregularities to settle down.Depo shots are to be given every three months, so for the first shot this kind of menstrual irregularity can occur.
Avatar f tn I started birth control at 13 to help with the cysts, I was on the pill for a few years then started the depo provera shot around 18. That worked for awhile. I thought I out grew the pcos like my doctors promised would happen. Come to find out the shot merely masked the disease. I am now 100% off birth control. I take 100mg of progesterone everyday to try and help. However, blood work indicated that I'm unusual.
10515800 tn?1419227034 Estrogen based birth control is what dries most women up. There are several estrogen free options including the "mini pill" (progesterone only rather than combination), depo provera shot, and one or two iuds.
Avatar n tn The same thing happened to me after I had just 1 shot of Depo Provera. It could be that you had some very small symptoms of becoming hypothyroid before you started taking the Yasmin. The Yasmin, could have set it off. People who have hypothyroidism usually need to take it for life. It is rare that this disorder will correct itself. This is not something to play around with. You need to take the medicine or your problems will only get worse and can become debilitating.
Avatar f tn m outside the normal range of time after stopping Depo Provera to have gotten my periods back. Could Depo be causing these problems or does it sound like something else could be a problem?
Avatar f tn He told me that he was going to try the Depo Provera shot, because that would be a more effective pain reducer and would help the endo from not coming back. I took the shot in the middle of December 2013, and started bleeding the beginning of January. I was not due to take the next shot until March, but I was still bleeding in February consistently. I called the doctor again and said that I was still bleeding, and they told me that I could either come and take the 2nd shot early or wait it out.
1467678 tn?1370941532 I started the depo provera shots last year (june), and was due for my last one 2nd January just gone. i didnt get the injection as me and my partner now want to start a family. When i was on the injection i was regular with a period every month.
Avatar f tn If you were using Depo-Provera it may take longer for your cycles to return to normal. Keep in mind that Depo-Provera is designed to be a long-lasting form of birth control. Even though it is intended to help you avoid pregnancy for up to three months, it may actually prevent pregnancy longer. Depo-Provera is a synthetic hormone similar to progesterone.
Avatar f tn Recently, Me and My Boyfriend had un-protected sex.. and afterwards i started bleeding. we haven't had sex in a week, what could time be a sign of.. I am on Depo Provera-the birth control shot?
3113005 tn?1341773834 I am little confused by your question. The depo provera shot is given once every three months not for three months at some unspecified interval. If you mean that you received the depo shot 4 months ago, and hence, the last month, you did not get a repeat depo shot, then the answer to your question is, yes, you can get pregnant. I was on the depo shot for about 5 years before stopping to try to conceive. It took me 3 years to conceive my son who is 6 years old.
