Depo provera black box warning

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera black box warning

depo-provera

Avatar f tn Look it up there is a black box warning on it from the FDA because it causes bone loss. Women get brittle bones in their later anyway so taking anything that speeds up the process is obviously not a good idea. If I were you I'd look into getting on something else once your 3 months are up.
Avatar f tn s called a black box warning from the fda that it causes bone density loss. They only put a black box warning on drugs that have serious side effects that are severe. Google it. It is by far the most dangerous and damaging of all the birth control options and no one who values their health should use it.
505857 tn?1329681517 I was on depo for 3 yrs, and luckily got AF the first month off depo. Personally, I believe if you are having regular periods, you need to buy some ovulation predictor tests, and see if your even ovulating. They're pretty expensive but you get alot of them, just test each day....etc. what the directions say on the box. That way you'll know if it's because your not ovulating... or whatnot.
Avatar f tn I agree, go see your Dr. ALSO~ With Depo~ There's a black box warning that if your on it more than 3 yrs or so, you've gotta get bone density scans. It's been shown to lower bone density. make sure you get a check on that too, because you don't want to have happen what happened to me. Fall or something and injure yourself bad, to only THEN find out it's partly due to your bones being weak.
Avatar n tn i am also going through the same thing and also been on depo of two years... over two years .. even though theres a black box warning on it not to use it after two years... but had my pap yesterday and my results will be in soon ... been with my same partner since my last pap and even longer then that...every thing was clean on my last pap/ std test.. i know 100% he hasnt been with anyone else... but these small paper cut type things have been showing up every so often ...
148588 tn?1465778809 m more concerned with its other scary sides than this tumor thing, as I have none of cancers mentioned in the black box warning. But its either take procrit or reduce riba or abandon tx, so I'm choosing procrit to see if I can finish tx and clear this virus once and for all.
1394877 tn?1280265360 Welcome to the side effects of Depo Provera! :) It takes A LOT of time to get used to the drug and yes, all that you're experiencing with the mood swings, lower abdominal pains, etc. are just normal side effects. Damaging to someone is a possibility. Did the doctor explain to you the side effects and what happens to your bones the longer you're on the stuff? I was on it for 3 years and had... somewhat problems at the end.
Avatar f tn m outside the normal range of time after stopping Depo Provera to have gotten my periods back. Could Depo be causing these problems or does it sound like something else could be a problem?
Avatar f tn If you were using Depo-Provera it may take longer for your cycles to return to normal. Keep in mind that Depo-Provera is designed to be a long-lasting form of birth control. Even though it is intended to help you avoid pregnancy for up to three months, it may actually prevent pregnancy longer. Depo-Provera is a synthetic hormone similar to progesterone.
Avatar m tn Regarding Depo shot it cannot cause unexpected bruising since you have not been taking it for a long time. If you stop getting Depo-Provera injections, your period usually returns within 3 to 10 months but sometimes it may take 12-18 mths. Hence you periods will return soon. So if the symptoms of bruising are persistent then get the causes which I have mentioned ruled out.
Avatar f tn Recently, Me and My Boyfriend had un-protected sex.. and afterwards i started bleeding. we haven't had sex in a week, what could time be a sign of.. I am on Depo Provera-the birth control shot?
3113005 tn?1341773834 I am little confused by your question. The depo provera shot is given once every three months not for three months at some unspecified interval. If you mean that you received the depo shot 4 months ago, and hence, the last month, you did not get a repeat depo shot, then the answer to your question is, yes, you can get pregnant. I was on the depo shot for about 5 years before stopping to try to conceive. It took me 3 years to conceive my son who is 6 years old.
Avatar f tn Irregular menstrual periods, or no periods at all Headaches Nervousness Depression Dizziness Acne Changes in appetite Weight gain Excessive growth of facial and body hair Hair loss Loss of bone mineral density Most of the side effects are not common. Change in the menstrual cycle is the most common side effect. You may experience irregular bleeding or spotting. After a year of use, about 50% of women will stop getting their periods. Their periods usually return when they discontinue the shots.
Avatar n tn Hello, Irregular bleeding like you describe is a common side effect of Depo Provera. Your girlfriend should have been counseled about this possibility when initiated on the medication. If she has any questions/concerns she should see the provider who is prescribing the medication. Best regards, Dr.
Avatar f tn I've been on depo provera for 15 years and my periods stopped right away. I'm 45 years old and just had a period that lasted 5 days. My question is whether or not depo provera is still working as my birth control choice? Is there a way to know if depo provera is no longer working and if I may get pregnant?
Avatar f tn Quick question... which Depo are you on? There are two kinds, that I'm aware of: Depo Provera or Depo Lupron. I had tried the Provera when I was about 16 for about a year. I had to stop because I could not handle the side effects any longer. I did spot for about 3 months. It usually takes a few months for your system to get used to it. The Lupron stops your period completely and basically puts your body into menopause, which is the one I am currently on.
494555 tn?1228504371 hi every1 im new on here and i really need ur help.
Avatar f tn So I got put on depo provera friday and my period had came on the wednesday night before that friday. Well I had sex that saturday after being on the shot for 24hr and my bf *** inside of me could I be pregnant or no?
Avatar f tn I have been on depo provera for a long time. Would this have anything to do with my issue?
Avatar f tn i decided to not go on any other birth control for awhile. What are the side effects of coming off the Depo Provera and is it ok to not be on any birthcontrol at all for awhile??
Avatar f tn I have been on the Depo Provera shot for more than 5 years now. I read that the recommended amount of time that a young woman should be on Depo is only 2 years. I am 20 now and I have been on it since I was 15. I have tried to come off of it once. I bled for about 3 weeks and then got back on it. Currently I have all kinds of pain. Back, kness, neck, arms, and I have migraines. I read about a calcium deficiency when doing research about Depo Provera.
Avatar f tn At the end of June I had received an injection on one butt cheek for depo provera... In the second week of august I noticed a dent clearly visible to the naked eyes... I feel very insecure about this! Will this type of dent heal with time or should I look into some type of filler? I don't know what to do...
1714443 tn?1309687971 More than likely she was given depo provera.....if she hasn't gotten the needle again since Feb then it's more than likely worn off by now. http://en.wikipedia.
