I have read at length about many different side effects of Depo-Provera and though I never experienced hair loss as a symptom I understand that can occur after a period of treatment. I have also read about the effects of hormones and their influence on each other and am hoping that this is an isolated incident due to the ever changing flux in my hormone levels recently.
I have researched so many things but I just came across a site that said the depo provera shot could cause vitamin b-12 deficiency. And vitamin b-12 deficiency would cause all of my symptoms. And also these symptoms started after I got the shot. Anyone have any information on this? I have only had one shot and other than this I have been fine.
I would suggest that you start doing ovulation predictors once you have a normal period and if you are not ovulating regularly, you could start a medication like Clomid to overcome the after effects of the depo.
Also, you should take lots of vit D and calcium--depo can cause thining of the bone, but that is reversible when you stop it.

When I was 16 my parents put me on the depo provera shot. I was on it till 2 months before my 18th birthday. Now I havent been on any birth control and me and my fiance have been trying to have a baby since I quit taking the shot and still cant get pregnant. Hi, I am not sure of what type of antibiotic might affect other contraceptives like the pill, but I am pretty sure that she will be fine on the shot. I myself had the depo-provera shot about 10 years ago. I only had one shot and I didn't have a period until a whole year later. It actually took me over another year after my period returned before, I finally became pregnant. The depo-provera shot is extremely effective.
I was on Depo Provera for about 8 years when my husband and I decided to try for another baby. I received my last injection in September 2006. I was pregnant by March 07 but miscarried at 5 weeks. We waited until December to try again and just miscarried that one at 9 weeks. After having 2 healthy children with no pregnancy complications, I am led to believe that this is an effect of the Depo injections.
s no way to tell for sure, but more and more proof is coming out that autism is NOT linked to vaccines, and because depo provera is an active hormone shot and not a vaccine, I highly doubt that it is the cause. Are your other children girls by any chance? Very often a family that has an autistic child only has 1 (almost always a boy), and the rest of the children are "normal". They are thinking more and more that it's a genetic mutation.

I have the same problem and they have stopped trying BCP's on me. Have you tried Depo Provera? That can work, it stops your period also. It can cause weight gain and bone density thinning and I *think* depression but its not common the depression I dont think. If you keep a balanced diet the weight gain often isnt a problem, its more an increase in apetite.
Have you been back to your doctor about it? It would deffinately be worth going back, 7 months is a bit too long!
In order to get pregnant though, you need to not only be ovulating but you also need to be producing fertile cervical mucous and a thick uterine lining after you ovulate. The reason Depo-Provera is so long lasting is because of the way it works. The levels of DMPA (the synthetic hormone in Depo-Provera) gradually increase over a three week period, at which time they reach their peak levels. After three weeks the DMPA levels begin to decrease exponentially.

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone out there knows anything about the long term use of Depo-Provera Contraceptive. I have been using it for a few years now, and have no plans of stopping using it anytime soon, as I am in college and will be for quite some time to come. I know that I am putting myself at risk for Osteoporosis by using it for a long time. But what I don't know is considering the fact that since being on Depo, I have had pretty much no menstrual cycle for a very long time.
