My girlfreind recieved the Depo Provera shot, a few days before she was expecting her period, she never got it, and it is now 3 weeks past, i can see how this may be normal, im not sure the exact role of progesterone. The reason i worry is one of pregnancy, allthough i cannot fashion it to be a possibility, anything is supposedly possibly.

I've been having Migraines everyday now and I don't know what causes the migraines? I drink like 1 -2 cups of coffee a day and I'm on the depo provera shot and recently had a baby 3 months ago. Getting a progesterone shot is not as common as getting a prescription for provera (a progesterone pill you take for a certain length of time), so that might be something you can ask your doctor about if the shot was not successful. Best of luck with everything!

The only time I took provera was to induce my period but I don't think it's intended to help get pregnant in any way. There are other progesterone supplements that are sometimes prescribed to help sustain a pregnancy but that's given once you've become pregnant. I'm not sure why you were prescribed provera and not sure this was of much help because of it, but I do wish you the best of luck and lots of baby dust. Take care and God Bless.

The implanon and depo provera release the hormones progesterone. THis is the hormone that makes up your endometerium, which is shed off during your period. So by consistently taking progesterone it will increase the buildup of your endometerium increasing the rate of spotting or having prolonged periods. Hello, i had my son in 2008 and went on depo provera i was on it a year then i stopped then went back on it just for 1 shot then i went on the combined pill. I stopped the pill and started Depo Provera injections, and the migraines ceased. Now, 10 years later, they started again. I have had 3 in two weeks. Interestingly enough, I had a couple this summer (hadn't been on the pill in years). I started the pill (Yaz) this Jan. and now the migraines have really increased in frequency. I stopped the pill last night to see if they at least decrease in frequency. Does any research support an increase/onset of migraines with taking the pill?

Hi, I am not sure of what type of antibiotic might affect other contraceptives like the pill, but I am pretty sure that she will be fine on the shot. I myself had the depo-provera shot about 10 years ago. I only had one shot and I didn't have a period until a whole year later. It actually took me over another year after my period returned before, I finally became pregnant. The depo-provera shot is extremely effective.
