depo-provera

Hello, If you stop getting Depo-Provera injections, your period usually returns within 3 to 10 months but sometimes it may take 12-18 mths..I suggest that you consult your gynecologist and get yourself examined to rule out other causes of amenorrhea like stress and anxiety, malnutrition, depression, overexercising, sudden weight loss or gain (obesity),thyroid disorders and hormonal imbalance due to polycystic ovarian syndrome(PCOS).
Hi. I had my last depo shot in august and I just finnished my first 10days of provera on oct. 4 and I still havent had a period yet. I know sometimes it can take up to 14 days after but Im well over my 14 days. So my question is why havent I had a period yet? And could it be that the shot is still in my system or is the provera meant to over-power it? Please Help?!
I'm wondering if this length will lessen, and what experiences and advice other people have had with depo, and whether you would recommend it long term for a 16 year old.
depo provera) and it seems like it might be a good alternative for me. For those of you who use this method what have been your experiences? I've read online about side effects including irregular bleeding and weight gain, but I've also read the injections can help regulate menstruation and even stop it all together. I'd appreciate any feedback you can offer.
Hi ladies. My last depo provera shot ran out in november and i never got it renewed as i was having bad side effects and i wanted to come off all contraceptives to let my body sort itself out. Its now nearly april and i havnt had any signs of a period apart from stomach cramps now andagain. I was just wondering if anyone had any information for me as im getting a little bit worried/frustrated. Thanks in advance!
"and it felt very painful; I could feel something sort of fall out of my vagina, or discharge. To my shock and amazement, I found what appeared to be a peice of flesh in my underpants" i just started depo and this happend to me too. it was pink and redish. i know it was not blood. it was fleshy. dose anyone know what it could be. i am afraid.
I have a 7mm protrusion coming from my pituitary that in all clinical reality should be called a tumor. There is also a void in my pituitary that was left from "old tumor that out grew it's blood supply". I have been dealing with the railroad spike in the head headaches for years. They are now controlled with medication. I have been experiencing severe joint pain a week before my period and as soon as menstruation starts it is gone. Completely.
Prior to previous pregnancies used depo provera followed by birth control pills (as I recognize that depo can stay in your system longer). Last depo provera injection was in April 2007. Used low-dose birth control pills June - August 2007. Last period (day 1) was September 2 after stopping birth control pills. No menstruation since that time. Negative pregnancy tests. Do you have any suggestions as to what may be causing the delayed menstruation?
i have been on depo shot for 6 yrs.i have now been off for 1yr.4months,my husband and i are trying to have a baby,by me being on shot so long do you think its still in my system the reason i havent gotten pregeant since ive been off the shot?
you can always call your pharmacist and ask to make sure. My husband and I are TTC and I took the Depo shot twice and stopped 11/04 and then started BCP till 8/05 and havent had a period since except with provera. I think the Depo is still in my system and is screwing everything up. I hope the provera works for you and best of luck with the clomid.
I have had normal periods for the past 10-11 months, anywhere between 28 and 33 days long. Before that, I was on Depo Provera for 10+ years(I am 32), and did not have a single period after coming off of the Depo for about a year. But, as soon as the 1st one came, everything seemed to be back on track. Except for the fact that for 2-3 days right before my period(flow that only lasts 1-2 days), I have a red/brown discharge where I have to wear a pantyliner, but not heavy enough for a pad.
A few years ago, I was put on Depo Provera. I was taking this for about a year and only had 1 menstrual period in this entire time. I have heard that this is quite common, and it can really mess up your cycle etc. I stopped taking it and went back to the pill as soon as possible, and I was soon back to normal.
because im due for another depo shot in 2010 should i get it or just dnt take anything and let my body regulate?
I was on depo for about a month after my son was born, and I said never again. I'm now having alot of problems and I'm not sure if its from that or just other things. I would say go get checked out to be safe. I have my period that last me for 2 months straight but this time it lasted 2 months straight took 1 week off, started back up and now its still on an every other day routine.
My question is why is my bleeding not stopping completely on provera although its been 2 weeks i started taking them and the bleeding is moderate during the dayt and light during the night, I am soaking 2 to 3 pads per day .. Can I stop taking provera and start combination OC pills to stop the bleeding ? will it help me..I am having lot of tiredness and fatigue due to bleeding so long ..please advise and help me..thanks much!
I was on provera in Dec 05 and Jan 06 and I now am 9 weeks pregnant. Provera used to be given as a pregnancy test. If you took it and had a period then you were not pregnant and if you took it and didnt have a period then you were pregnant. Provera or the generic that you are talking of is pretty much progesterone and it will help your uterus. Dont worry it wont harm a pregnancy. Best of luck!
I used depo provera for 2 and half years and I ceased 4 months ago with the intention of conceiving, I have been menstruating whilst on depo but the floor was not heavy not consistent even up to now. My problem is that currently I am menstruating and this is the eighth day, the floor is very heavy with big blackish blood clots that are frightening me. Is this normal and how long will it take for me to have pregnancy ?
I took provera for 10 days and it took me exactly 6 weeks to get my period. I don't know if it just took me so much longer to get it back because I just got off depo and havent had a period in 5 years or if it's normal for it to take 6 weeks.
I'm wondering if any of y'all increase your medications or alter your treatment right before and/or during menstruation to deal with increased POTS symptoms? Have most of you suppressed your periods or taken contraception to help manage the effects? I know this is personal so if you'd prefer to PM me, please do - I promise to keep anything and everything you'd like confidential completely private. Thanks so much!
Can’t forget the crying that goes along with anxiety! When I was 21 yrs old (in 1998), I was put on birth control (Depo Provera shot) to shrink ovarian cysts. The shot took away my period. Yay!! I was on the shot for 10 years and didn't have a period so I didn't have to deal with period anxiety. But the shot caused me to gain weight, about 50lbs. So I decided that I wouldn't go back and get another shot. I lost about 30lbs so far!

I have been off of depo provera for about two years, on depo provera I experience the periods 4 times a year and mild lactating, and I have been sexually active. My question is, since I have been off of it for the last year, I had experienced regular periods for the first three months, and now all of a sudden I am not having any menstrual cycles what so ever. Is it still because of the depo provera or is another underlining cause?

The term Bioidentical Hormones is not a medical term, it is a marketing term used to imply an exact copy of the hormones produced in the body.

Other causes could be polycystic ovarian syndrome, diseases of pituitary gland, hormonal imbalance of estrogen and progesterone and uterine abnormalities like fibroid and cervical dysplasia. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Most types of hormonal contraception are immediately reversible including the pill, IUD, and Implanon. This is not necessarily true of Depo Provera. Depo Provera in some women may result in a delayed return of menstruation, but usually not greater than one year. Best regards, Dr.
