Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera and infertility

depo-provera

Avatar n tn Is depo-provera linked with infertility! I am a 24 and at the age of 20, I had 2 injections of depo-provera. Ever since, my period could me counted as almost none except when I am extreamely stress wich happen only 2 times. Other than that, nothing. I had a physical, inner & outer ultrasound & blood word and everthing was A1. So my doctor thinks I might be infertile. Before taking depo-provera, my periods were normal.
3183263 tn?1344736236 I really don't kno that answer to this question I will really like to know. I been on depo provera since 2009 until 2011. And I still haven't gotten pregnant and I really want to.
Avatar f tn You can get pregnant anytime once you start getting your periods. After stoppage of Depo-Provera one can become pregnant as soon as three to four months after the last shot. It varies women to women. It may take some women up to a year or two to conceive once they stop using Depovera. It does not depend on how long you have been using Depovera. If you are not able to conceive it will be best to consult a gynecologist. Early diagnosis and treatment will help. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn The effects of depo Provera can last for up to 18 months. So, it is entirely possible that you are still having after effects. If you were my patient, I would probably begin a work up for infertility though, starting with ovulation predictors. If you ARE ovulating, we would continue looking for other problems such as blocked tubes or low sperm count. Good luck!
Avatar f tn When i was 17 i refused to take it and i am now 20 and me and my husband have been trying for a little over 2 years to get pregnant but i still haven't been able to. Im scared that the shot has made me infertile. I really want to have a baby. Can someone please give me advice on what to do? Or has anyone else experienced this with the depo shot?
Avatar n tn has taken me off the Depo Shots and I was put on Birth Control Pills. The blood was very dark red and blood clots. I was given an altrsound was told nothing was wrong. Is this normal with the Depo Provera?
Avatar f tn I have a history of anxiety and depression. Is depo-provera a good choice or a bad choice for birth control? Thank you!
Avatar f tn Im 28 and have never been pregnant slightly overweight but not too concerred and getting it back down periods were always regular and pain free went on for birth control, my husband has 1 child already and decided to start are own family.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am not sure of what type of antibiotic might affect other contraceptives like the pill, but I am pretty sure that she will be fine on the shot. I myself had the depo-provera shot about 10 years ago. I only had one shot and I didn't have a period until a whole year later. It actually took me over another year after my period returned before, I finally became pregnant. The depo-provera shot is extremely effective.
Avatar f tn s no way to tell for sure, but more and more proof is coming out that autism is NOT linked to vaccines, and because depo provera is an active hormone shot and not a vaccine, I highly doubt that it is the cause. Are your other children girls by any chance? Very often a family that has an autistic child only has 1 (almost always a boy), and the rest of the children are "normal". They are thinking more and more that it's a genetic mutation.
Avatar f tn My company was surprisingly willing to pay until i got the other diagnosis of infertility. I got lucky and was able to conceive without ivf. They did pay for my meds though. Good luck.
384896 tn?1335294331 not sure about the breast feeding part but a lot of women on this site might agree with me to stay clear of depo-provera. I was on this bc for 2 and a half years and have been ttc for the same length of time with no joy. I was diagnosed with depression at 16 years old when i was on this, i asked the doc if that was the problem and was told no, when the depo eventually cleared from my system so did the depression my family say i was a new person.
Avatar f tn I was on birth control pills for 3 years ( stopped taking them 3 years ago) and I was on Depo-Provera for 6 months (stopped getting the needles due to hair loss and constant menses) I stopped depo-provera 26 months ago. At this point my gyn has no clue what to do next and I am getting worried that I will never have a child of my own. What should my next step be, what else can I do?
Avatar f tn m outside the normal range of time after stopping Depo Provera to have gotten my periods back. Could Depo be causing these problems or does it sound like something else could be a problem?
Avatar f tn In order to get pregnant though, you need to not only be ovulating but you also need to be producing fertile cervical mucous and a thick uterine lining after you ovulate. The reason Depo-Provera is so long lasting is because of the way it works. The levels of DMPA (the synthetic hormone in Depo-Provera) gradually increase over a three week period, at which time they reach their peak levels. After three weeks the DMPA levels begin to decrease exponentially.
Avatar n tn One thing I noticed during my internet search was a number of results discussing Depo Provera and how it has caused the onset of early menopause in women even in their 20’s. Has anyone else heard about this, and if so, are there other resources I can review to get more information on this correlation? Thanks, I just have to know what is causing this!
Avatar f tn Recently, Me and My Boyfriend had un-protected sex.. and afterwards i started bleeding. we haven't had sex in a week, what could time be a sign of.. I am on Depo Provera-the birth control shot?
3113005 tn?1341773834 I am little confused by your question. The depo provera shot is given once every three months not for three months at some unspecified interval. If you mean that you received the depo shot 4 months ago, and hence, the last month, you did not get a repeat depo shot, then the answer to your question is, yes, you can get pregnant. I was on the depo shot for about 5 years before stopping to try to conceive. It took me 3 years to conceive my son who is 6 years old.
Avatar f tn The period usually returns after stopping the shots, however, it can take 3 months to a year for the effects of Depo-Provera to wear off and fertility to return.
Avatar f tn Irregular menstrual periods, or no periods at all Headaches Nervousness Depression Dizziness Acne Changes in appetite Weight gain Excessive growth of facial and body hair Hair loss Loss of bone mineral density Most of the side effects are not common. Change in the menstrual cycle is the most common side effect. You may experience irregular bleeding or spotting. After a year of use, about 50% of women will stop getting their periods. Their periods usually return when they discontinue the shots.
Avatar f tn I've been on depo provera for 15 years and my periods stopped right away. I'm 45 years old and just had a period that lasted 5 days. My question is whether or not depo provera is still working as my birth control choice? Is there a way to know if depo provera is no longer working and if I may get pregnant?
Avatar f tn Hello, I was just wondering if anyone out there knows anything about the long term use of Depo-Provera Contraceptive. I have been using it for a few years now, and have no plans of stopping using it anytime soon, as I am in college and will be for quite some time to come. I know that I am putting myself at risk for Osteoporosis by using it for a long time. But what I don't know is considering the fact that since being on Depo, I have had pretty much no menstrual cycle for a very long time.
Avatar f tn So I've been on depo for 9.months now and got my renewal shot and antibiotics for 10 days on the same day, how long should I wait before having unprotected sex? How will they effect eachother????
999213 tn?1264959852 Oh by the way its NOT Depo-Provera....
Avatar f tn Quick question... which Depo are you on? There are two kinds, that I'm aware of: Depo Provera or Depo Lupron. I had tried the Provera when I was about 16 for about a year. I had to stop because I could not handle the side effects any longer. I did spot for about 3 months. It usually takes a few months for your system to get used to it. The Lupron stops your period completely and basically puts your body into menopause, which is the one I am currently on.
494669 tn?1275362475 I have been off Depo-Provera for 11 months now and still haven't conceived. Every month i have the same symptoms you are describing and every month i have the same negative result. I was also told afetr i came off the injection it could take me anything from a year to 2 years to conceive.
