16411434 tn?1447717985 I WENT TO THE DOCTOR AND SHE BELIEVED ME TO HAVE A HORMONE IMBALANCE AS A RESULT OF THE DEPO SHOT. MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY URGE ME TO WORK OUT THROUGH THE PAIN EVEN AS PAINFUL AS IT IS. AT 28 YEARS OLD I FEEL I'M WAY TOO YOUNG FOR THIS MANY HEALTH PROBLEMS. IS EXTREME WEIGHT GAIN AND A HORMONE IMBALANCE A SYMPTOM OF THE DEPO PROVERA SHOT? IF SO, WHAT COULD I DO TO CHANGE MY SITUATION?
Avatar n tn Various factors causing it are endometriosis, ectopic pregnancy, hormone imbalance, endometrial hyperplasia, polyps, use of IUD’s and depo shots, sexually transmitted diseases,PCOS and benign and malignant pathologies of the uterus. If you have prolonged bleeding then it is advisable to consult a gynecologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.

Avatar f tn Even though it is intended to help you avoid pregnancy for up to three months, it may actually prevent pregnancy longer. Depo-Provera is a synthetic hormone similar to progesterone. It is designed to keep your body from ovulating, but it also keeps your cervical mucous thick and thins the lining of your uterus to prevent implantation. Because Depo tends to keep the lining of the uterus thin, this is one of the reasons women generally have lighter periods while taking it.
Avatar f tn t tell my mother so I need advice on what should be my next step. Please, please anything could help. Am I pregnant or is there a hormone imbalance?
Avatar f tn I think I can help you out. So depo provera, the shot, is made up of the hormone Progesterone. Progesterone is used by the woman's body to build up our endometerium, the lining of the uterus which is shed off during one's period. By taking depo provera you are consistently having the hormone progesterone released in your body for 3 months. Increasing the intake of this hormone in your body can cause prolonged periods and heavy spotting.
Avatar f tn The hypothalamus stimulates the pituitary gland to release follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). FSH and LH cause the ovaries to produce the hormones estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen and progesterone are responsible for the cyclical changes in the endometrium (uterine lining), including menstruation. In addition, a woman’s genital tract should be free of any abnormalities to allow the passage of menstrual blood Why is Provera prescribed?
Avatar n tn ive been on the depo shot for a while my last one was due in Feb and i didnt take it my doctor did a pregnancy test came back neg and now im on my second round of provera also my breast and my underarms were very tender after taking provera it went away wonder when my period will start.
Avatar f tn If I am on the depo shot and I do some blood analysis, is the shot detectable in my blood?
Avatar f tn Hello, Depo-Provera is a long-acting progestin (hormone) form of birth control. Avatar f tn s no way to tell for sure, but more and more proof is coming out that autism is NOT linked to vaccines, and because depo provera is an active hormone shot and not a vaccine, I highly doubt that it is the cause. Are your other children girls by any chance? Very often a family that has an autistic child only has 1 (almost always a boy), and the rest of the children are "normal". They are thinking more and more that it's a genetic mutation.
Avatar n tn I'm 22 yrs old and was taking Provera to regulate my cycle. I was on Depo on and off for 6 years and have been off it for 20 months straight now. I used an AH ovulation kit and was not ovulating so the doc recommended Provera and Chlomid. I've been off Provera for 3 weeks waiting to start Chlomid, but I still haven't gotten my period. I just took an HPT at it was negative. Could I be pregnant even with that HPT negative? My nurse seemed concerned that it wasn't a blood test...
Avatar n tn I was on Depo Provera for about 8 years when my husband and I decided to try for another baby. I received my last injection in September 2006. I was pregnant by March 07 but miscarried at 5 weeks. We waited until December to try again and just miscarried that one at 9 weeks. After having 2 healthy children with no pregnancy complications, I am led to believe that this is an effect of the Depo injections.
Avatar n tn I was on Depo for 3 years, then got off and the next month got AF right on time, then got on Nuvaring for three months. I didn't like the weight gain w/this one either (10lbs) so I got off. It took 3 cycles to become pregnant, and we WERENT trying. Ihad been using fertility awareness. So far KNOCK ON WOOD!!! I'm 15w today!. It may be the projesterone, or just your body not acclimated to being pregnant yet since the Shot makes your body think it's pregnant.

Avatar m tn I have read at length about many different side effects of Depo-Provera and though I never experienced hair loss as a symptom I understand that can occur after a period of treatment. I have also read about the effects of hormones and their influence on each other and am hoping that this is an isolated incident due to the ever changing flux in my hormone levels recently.
Avatar m tn Ok guys, I went to the doctor and they told me it may be a hormone imbalance.
432411 tn?1206472109 Depo is a hormone shot for BC. The hormone injected (progesterone) causes the body to stop producing as when you're pregnant. So naturally there is some weight gain and roundness of the stomach that occurs. The body is being told it's pregnant so it tends to do what it needs to provide for the baby that does not exist. As for hypothyroidism I found out 6yrs ago by my doctor who noticed swelling around my throat sent me to do an ultrasound which showed an problem.
746098 tn?1232912961 What type of contraception are you on? If you are taking depo-provera i would seriously recommend you stop using this asap. I had the same symptoms as yourself and was diagnosed with depression, i wasn't depressed it was the side effects of the depo -provera. Also if you do ever plan on having kids it could take up to years after coming off of this pill for your body to regulate. I regret ever taking this for of contraception as my body is still completely messed up. Hope this helps!!
Avatar n tn has taken me off the Depo Shots and I was put on Birth Control Pills. The blood was very dark red and blood clots. I was given an altrsound was told nothing was wrong. Is this normal with the Depo Provera?
Avatar f tn I was on depo provera for 3 years and got my last injection in october 2008 its been 15 months and i have not had a period... i was given provera for 10 days with no results and bc pills for 4months and still nothing... i also had a pelvic ultrasound and everything was ok... me and my husband are trying to concieve but have had no luck... is there anything else i can do to get a period. please help!
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed at 16 with PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) and I got a Depo shot June 3rd of 2010 in an attempt to force my hormonal imbalance to regulate. All was well for the first month, then the excruciating migraines, cramps, mood swings and severe weight gain came on (40lbs in one month!!!) and my hair began to fall out. So when Sept. 3rd came about, I chose NOT to get another shot. And that very afternoon, my period began. It ended on Jan. 3rd of 2011.
Avatar m tn Hi, i have a well grounded education in biology and chemistry, but it seems in the feild of tyhe womens response to hormones i am lacking. My girlfreind recieved the Depo Provera shot, a few days before she was expecting her period, she never got it, and it is now 3 weeks past, i can see how this may be normal, im not sure the exact role of progesterone. The reason i worry is one of pregnancy, allthough i cannot fashion it to be a possibility, anything is supposedly possibly.
Avatar f tn I was on depo for a year and a few months stopped it and began planning for a child. I was told it can take up to a year however at eight months post depo I got my periods back, two months later I got my bfp. So it just deffers from person to person. If you think you could already be pregnant test four to five weeks after possible conception.
Avatar f tn I have tried the pill, which I would forget about, depo provera made me bleed for over a year straight and had to be put on different hormone pills and iron supplements.
