Dental operations on gums

Common Questions and Answers about Dental operations on gums

operation

After tx most seem to need lots of follow up dental and gum work. I believe that the disease attacks the teeth through the naturally stimulated autoimmune process (just as it causes a Sjogren's like syndrome in many with HCV), and then that the tx greatly accelerates this autoimmune process, so that gum tissue, bone, and tooth nerves and pulp are under heavy attack by our own system.
I have religiously seen DDS for dental care. Two past DDS have retired and I have been here/there for this/that. I beleive I had shoddy work in the past 2 years. This DDS's fillings have fallen out. He had to replace them twice. Crowns left spaces between teeth allowing food stuck in there. Saw new DDS and he did full mouth x-rays and told to have my upper teeth pulled and have implants.
The dentist said I probably got food up in the gum. He operated, created a flap and cleaned it out. To my knowledge he did not get much out. Now I have another bump on my gum. He has me back on antibiotics. I clench at night and wear a mouth guard. I had him adjust this after the last surgery and I have done better (this is the first major infection since then). He xrays and states the implant is okay. I brush, dental floss, use a rinse and mouthwash.
i chose to have a dental bridge done because of an extracted tooth 11 years ago. my dentist prepared the two adjacent teeth for crowns. (back lower right, space and the 3rd tooth from the back) my appntmt was 2 1/2 hrs and felt okay afterwards. after the anesthetic wore off, i was in terrible pain. i called him back to see if that was normal. he asked if my bite was okay and i said yes. i said it was sensitive to air and hot and cold, along with pain in the whole lower part of my mouth.
This past two weeks I decided to start eating on that side that I had to implant done and now there is a bump above the gum line and it's obviously sore and tender to push. Not that I want to push on it. I rinsed with Chlorohexidine this morning and I am hoping that will help. I should also add the fact that I smoke. But the doctor told me I had to quit during the surgery and to allow for the bone to take. I thought since this implant was done a while ago I would be able to smoke again.
Hi, I had a dental abscess in February last year on one of my front bottom teeth which was treated with a root canal and antbiotics. It seemed ok but about 2 months ago a small hole appeared on the gum in front of this teeth which sporadically leaks pus and the tooth feels sore now and then (with varying intesity of pain). My dentist has prescribed 2 courses of amoxicillin now but this has not fixed the problem. Any advice on what I should do now?
Then i thought it's no big deal and didn't pay attention to it. The gum color was just dark or at worst swelled sometimes. Then I put on dental brace because I wanted to fix alignment of molar teeth behind. The dentist who put the dental brace said it won't interfere with the implant as he wouldn't apply force on the implant, so I agree to go through the procedure for 1yr+ (Nov 2007 - Feb 2009).
This pain can be 100% relieved by placing moderate to firm pressure on my upper right gum between and around my front molars. It's like a switch--massage with pressure and the pain disappears. I also suffer from mild seasonal allergies and I can also use the gum massage trick to loosen sinus congestion.
I had a dental implant procedure performed on tooth #7 over the course of about a year (non-immediate loading) in 2007-2008. There was some concern regarding the amount of bone I had in the area since the implant was placed in a location where I had never had an adult tooth. I was informed that I might need a bone graft, and I remember paying for the bone graft prior to the operation. Presently, the implant has never bothered me or been a source of pain.
Or if not cancer but instead just tooth/gum disease, he'd prefer that we take her records and take her to a pet dental expert. Also asked if there is a fluid we could use to clean her mouth daily to keep down gum disease in future (at her age and with her gum disease, us brushing her remaining teeth daily isn't an option though flushing out her mouth would be). And stressed that I wanted to know if old or new fractures. If old, she has successfully adjusted and can eat fine, etc.
Eleven months ago I had a titanium alloy dental implant along with a sinus lift and bovine bone graft. The surgery was successful and the implant has since integrated with the bone. One to two months after the surgery I started having cramps in the lower extremities that progressed to constant aching in the feet and knees.
The white (visible) crowns will be fitted to the screws after this healing period - until then all you see is empty gums. The operation was entirely painless and lasted about 40-45 minutes. Apart from the numbness (which is rare, I am told), I only have the mild pain of the incision wound and the stitches in the gum, which are healing up; stitches will be removed in a week.
My 12 1/2 year old dog was operated on 1/23/08 and a tumor was found covering his bottome teeth on the gums. They removed 4 of his little teeth. (I first noticed the tumor 1/4/08) the oncologist does not believe all was removed due to the biopsy stating scant margins. We were trying to get him strong enough to start chemo on 2/14, but to his lack of eating he will not be able to. We started him on Tramadol 50 mg 2-3 per day on 2/6. He would pant so hard and his heart was racing.
However they are getting quite sore, it feels like my impacted wisdoms did on a smaller scale, they appear to be boney growths coming out of my gums, one on each side. I have found bony gum growths on internet, but mine are sharp and sore, from what i read mostly they are rounded and not sore at all. Any advice welcome!!
I have a hard white bump on my gum below my tooth that I had a root canal on in April. The tooth I had the root canal on was sore for a couple of months then stopped all of a sudden. I found out I was pregnant, and a couple of weeks later, that tooth started bothering me again. Now there's this white hard bump on my gum directly below the tooth with the root canal. It seems to swell and get worse at night. I brush and floss everyday.
The implants used in my operation were manufactured in Sweden and my dental surgeon assured me they were the best! I will pass on your helpful advice to him and my GP very quickly and hope they will take up your invitation to log on to the web and look at the information on www.melisa.org. Your comments and opinion are much appreciated. Tak.

Are you aware of any connection between Celiac Disease and Dental Problems. Four Years ago I was diagnosed as a Celiac and now have a Gluten Free Diet. At about the same time I began a series of Dental Problems. Firstly I had pain in one of my bottom molars, after a few visits to the dentist it was decided that I should have the tooth removed. This I did but the pain continued. I was told I had a dry socket and received treatment for this.

//www.toothvet.ca/PDFfiles/Dental_Truths.pdf I would not hesitate to do the dental with anesthesia. Please be sure that pre-operative bloodwork is done as well as IV fluids during the procedure (to support blood pressure, speed recovery, help flush bacteria (from mouth) through the body, and provide an emergency port should a problem arise.) Please let us know should you have further questions or concerns.
Back in Aug 07 I had a full mouth extraction done in the operating room (due to dental fear & complexity) Now almost two years later I still have no dentures. Don't have the money for it. The problem I been having is there are some boney area's in my gums..it feels like a whole tooth is there. I was told they would work there way out the fragments but after 2 yrs they are still there. Do they have to be surgically removed? and can they cause any type of infections? Thx in advance!!!
Before I couldn't drink from water fountains or eat ice cream or anything, but now it works better than ever. But ever since the operation, my right tooth became really tender. It's not sensitive to c old or heat or anything, just pressure and when I tap on it and stuff. the gum above it hurts also, which is where I think the pain comes from.
The taking of preventative (prophylactic) antibiotics is still recommended for tooth extraction or heavy gum/dental work. They are taken before the bacteremia occurs (before the tooth is extracted and bacteria reach the blood). In this way, the antibiotic is intended to keep an infection from ever starting, which is much easier than killing off one that has already started. That is why you don't need a 10-day course of pills each time you go to the dentist.
My periodontist suggests that I should undergo a flap operation. Doesn't sound too bad until you know that I have pockets of about 8-9 mm deep and that I will remain with a healthy gum but no additional stability and with holes that are big enough to park your car backwards in. Not only am I thirty but also a professional trainer and my smile is a huge trademark attribute.
I had crown lenghtening surgery on 6/30/08 to rectify a deep periodontal pocket that had formed between two crown resotrations; and to provide adaquet margin between the gum line and crowns for proper cleaning. Many say this proceedure is easy however my recovery has been difficult. The third day post surgery I developed a sore throat and ear pain which still exsists. I can't take IBU as I have another surgery next week and have to stay off anti-inflamatory drugs.
He did root canal treatment, but could not find anything, the pain did not go away, and after several root canals, he referred me to a consultant for an apicectomy. When the operation was done, as he drilled through the bone, he said there was lots of pus to drain away. Two days after this my face swelled up, and I was in extreme pain, and had the gum cut open, at the hospital, and had a very bad infection.
Could there be a root that has been perforated and maybe this is a sign that the substance replacing the interior of the tooth has exited into the surrounding gum and is causing an irritation up high in my gum? 3. What steps should be taken next and should I have the crown placed while this pain is there? Thank you again, your comments mean so much.
Usually tooth infection takes a very long time and has to spread to neighboring gum area to spread to blood vessels and cause infection. However this can be painful, can cause exposed roots and cause persistent infection. Hence consult a dentist immediately. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
I have filed an appeal with my medical insurance provider to help pay for the treatments, since I have lost my dental insurance this year, and they need as much information as I can come up with to prove my medication could have caused this problem. If anyone here could help me find info or share thier story about dental problems since being on these meds I would greatly appreciate it. I plan on sending as much info as I can find. Thanks, Kim P.S.
