Avatar m tn I am getting a cataract surgery consultation with one eye clinic that has all the newer hi-tech equipment (femtosecond laser, ORA, etc) to use with the premium IOLs and extra cornea operations (LRI,Lasik, etc) while another eye clinic I plan to get a consultation with does not have femtosecond laser (so they only use the manual blade for incision?) but does have ORA - but they offer a wider variety of toric IOLs they have used which is important for my high astigmatism.
Avatar f tn I want to know what are the risk factors involed during the dental scaling or cleaning. The equipments which are used during cleaning, are diposable (like injection needles) or not? If not, then how is it ensured that there is no chance of any kind of infaction (some bacterias or virus may survive at boiling temperature of water also). Please guide me.
Avatar f tn Seems unlikely although it is odd that the burning sensation occurs only after a dental cleaning and not anything else. Have you asked your dentist at all? Perhaps you're allergic to something that is used during dental cleanings? Does your symptoms appear at any other time?
Avatar f tn This combination of medications is used to treat mild-to-moderate pain associated with conditions such as headache, dental pain, muscle pain, painful menstruation, pain following an accident, and pain following operations. The half-life of acetaminophen is 1-4 hours......in other words, approximately every 4 hours, 1/2 the dose in your body will be excreted. This process will continue until all the medication is out of your system.
Avatar f tn unless you have a specific dental condition 2 cleanings a year are normal. a manual brush works very well if used correctly. the biggest problem people have with manual brushing is not bushing the recommended 2 minutes twice a day. use a soft brush and do not use too much pressure. flossing is also very important whichever brush you choose.
Avatar n tn 2, if the virus would be inactive after it left a human body for a few minutes, how come so many cases of HIV infection because of blood transfusion or operations with unstrictly sterilized instruments? 3, if the virus can keep active only in an environment of low temperature, how can virus on the dental instruments and razors infect another?

Avatar m tn Oral to breasts and nipples, oral to vagina, french kissing, manual penetration of the vagina, and all forms of touching are activities which I have participated in. I did not use a dental dam during any of these activities, nor did I wash my hands or pay any attention to whether I peed soon after or not. Am I at any risk by continuing these activities (only recently discovering they were acceptable to certain strippers), and if so, what level of risk, and to which STD's?
Avatar n tn what suggestions do you have for prolonged numbness a year following oral surgery to have dental implants inserted. I have had one implants removed due to terrible pain from the implant sticking into my lower lip. Now the left side of my chin and lower lip is so painful I leave my dentures out most of the time. I keep them in while at work, but I'm in misery all day. There is severe pain in my upper gums at night. I sleep with my head elevated to an almost sitting position.

Avatar m tn t use a mask, and it would not be unreasonable to ask him why he does not do so, or to wear one in future operations on you. However, the purpose of masking during surgery is not to protect patients from blood-borne infections like HIV. The intent is to prevent bacterial wound infections (e.g., staph, strep); and to protect the surgeon from the patient's body secretions.
Avatar n tn Seeing manual therapist, such as osteopath or chiropractor , is advised. Dental professionals are not likely to help you. It appears that you have generalized hypermobility, which may be associated with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Did your MDs rule out autoimmune disease?
1925157 tn?1328929017 You can try switching to a soft manual toothbrush. I don't think the toothpaste will have too much of an effect but you can try it and see if it helps. Try to spend more time with being gentle but thorough with your brushing and flossing.
Avatar m tn I am wondering if my dental hygienist may have damaged my teeth using an ultrasonic scaler. I apologize that this post is a bit lengthy, but I figure giving you details up front will mean fewer clarifying questions and more useful responses in the long run. First, I'll explain my experience and then I explain what I have experienced in the time since my cleaning.
Avatar m tn been in way too many situations of extreme violence, shootings, undercover drug operations, paramilitary helicopter jungle lab operations...you get the picture. Had my first panic attack in 1991- was prescribed Xanax and been on it ever since. Generalized social anxiety, particularly in public speaking and freeway driving situations has gradually increased over the years, and I was prescribed Zoloft, but that just isn't doing the trick (100 mg/day).
Avatar f tn 6 years ago I had my cheekbone smashed by a hockey ball. I have two operations to fix the side of my face but as I had severed my infraorbital nerve had severe nerve damage. I had terrible ant like sensation and hyper sensetive areas across my nose, lip and side of my face. I had further surgeries where they tried to freeze the nerve and then tried to obliterate the nerve. However, after every attempt the same horrible sensation comes back.

475300 tn?1312423126 When HIV virus was first isolated, one of the news magazines (20/20 or someone like that) aired a program that I found interesting, about dental offices and their sterilisation protocols. They discovered that, although the dentists they studied were scrupulous about autoclaving instruments, a great number of them did not autoclave the handsets between patients. They simply attached a sterilised instrument from the autoclave on the handsets, which were only cleaned at the end of the day.
Avatar f tn Slightly bleeding gums, or some sort of bacteria on your brush. As an experiment I suggest that you get a manual toothbrush and use that for a week or two and see what happens.
