Dental epinephrine and pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Dental epinephrine and pregnancy

epipen

Avatar f tn t have any epinephrine in it. Epinephrine can cause your heart rate to increase. And of course nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is definitely off limits.
1817071 tn?1366228243 I have had a ton of dental work done and I remind my dentist every time no epinephrine. Also something to be aware of...if you have a tooth crowned when they are doing the crown prep they use a string coated in epinephrine to retract your gum prior to making the impressions. It is equivalent to about 3 shots with epi. They have string that does not have the epinephrine so be sure to remember to ask if you are having a tooth crowned.
Avatar f tn s the epinephrine that is in the lidocaine. You can ask your dentist to use an anesthetic without epinephrine, I have had tons of dental work and always ask for that. Dentist doesn't mind at all and I've never had any problems. It doesn't last as long but if you start to feel anything while they are working the dentist will just give you more. I have done fine with it.
Avatar f tn I have severe "white coat hypertension" which causes my BP to rise very high when going to the doctor. A Dentist told me a long time ago to always tell the dentist to give me a shot WITHOUT epinephrine. In the meantime I got on BP meds which controls my BP but when going to the doctor it still goes up, but not as bad as in the past.
Avatar m tn After that, my heart was racing, hands were shaking and had to sit up . Immediately told the dentist and dental assistant, they gave me a few minutes waiting for the medicine to numb the area an to wait out the shaky feeling I had. After a few minutes, they did the dental procedure that went well. So told them I didn't want the lidocaine again, it was a bit scary to get that racing heart rhythm, shakiness for no reason.
Avatar f tn so far I am 27weeks. During pregnancy is there pain in dental cleanings? Heard from a friend there is pain. Are teeth whitenings allowed?
Avatar f tn The dentist prescribed Halcyon (which I took 1 hour before the appointment) saying it will relax me and make numbing easier and the non-epinephrine local anesthetic last longer. He gave me 2 shots of local on each side. Afterwards, I felt slight pain at one of the injection places, no pain anywhere else. The next day, my face was swollen, and I still had just the slight pain from one of the injections. The swelling was just of the skin of my face, not inside my mouth, not on my lips.
Avatar f tn How have other people found they react to dental treatment and what ways have you found to cope? I was trying to decide whether a small dose of Diazepam beforehand would help or hinder? I am in the UK so our dentists cannot give general anaesthsia - that involves going to hospital - but consequently i suspect in UK we have quite extensive work done under local!
Avatar f tn It is much, much weaker than epineprhine and you would get a much, much lower dose of it than dental injection with epinephrine. Even so, I would just play it safe for regular exams and just get tropicamide which should not affect blood pressure or pulse.
Avatar f tn s recommend that you continue with your regular dental visits because if you develop a dental related infection during pregnancy it can cause preterm labor among other things. That being said, I have read that 1st trimester work is the biggest gamble & have personally had a root canal done during my second trimester. My dentist would not use lidocaine because it's known to have affects on pregnant woman but he did use carbocaine whose direct affects on unborn babies are not really known.
Avatar f tn The dentist should know what to give you. Did you let them know you were pregnant?
Avatar f tn I went when I was 8weeks and im 24 weeks now and need to go again. Its the same as all dental appointments. Just ask for an extra xray vest if u get xrays and also they have something thats like novacain idk how to spell it. Anyway ask for that, it doesnt have something in it that novacain does that makes that babys heart beat faster.
Avatar n tn For the first time in 37 years, two weeks ago when I received regular dental anesthetic my heart raced and I started having palpitations. It passed of course in a few minutes and when I went in yesterday for a root canal I asked for the anesthetic without epi. The first shot was fine, but the second injection sill caused my heart to pound hard, my chest felt shallow and made me feel a little panicy. It passed and the 3rd injection did the same.
Avatar f tn U usually feel like that with the epinephrine in the numbing agent..it usually goes away. I'm a dental assistant so I see these kinds of things.
16361457 tn?1449652821 Yes-- I have had root canals, and today I had to have a tooth pulled where a crown was previously poorly done by a dentist I went to for many years. He got careless with the care he provided as he got close to retirement. Now I need to get an implant. I should mention I have major head and neck pain and issues from previous whiplash and some very bad falls and concussions. It is uncomfortable for me to get dental work in general.
Avatar f tn Im having my teeth cleaned for the first time in years, also getting a couple of feelings and I will eventually need my wisdom teeth out. Ive never been told I needed antiobiotics bfore dental work. I have pvcs/pacs and possible svt. My heart is structurally normal according to my recent echo. Im a bit concerned about developing endocarditis. Should I ask my doctor about getting antibiotics even though Ive never been told to take them??
Avatar f tn Hi ladies I am a dental hygienist in Jersey and in our office we usually wait until the patient is past their 1st trimester..too risky for anything to happen. 2nd & 3rd ok as long as we have clearance from OBGYN...we take absolutely NO RISKS. if the patient isin massive pain we HAVE to take an xray and you will be shielded w/ a lead apron...sometimes two! Anesthetic used is also diff. Usually no epinephrine! Hope this helps!!
Avatar n tn both WITHOUT EPINEPHRINE,YES,WITHOUT EPINEPHRINE and I made sure of that before the skin test. They had to discontinue the Lidocaine because of heart side effects. But they finished with the other one and they thought that everything was fine and sent me home..The next day,BOOM! they hit with a vengence..P.V.C.S over and over again lasting for 3 weeks or so until they finally tapered off.
Avatar m tn The only reason they are doing it is that our mouths are a direct gateway to the valves of our hearts so it is just being done as a precaution and i bet everyone on this site probably gets them before dental work including myself. Antibiotics as far as i know do not cause any arrythmias and they are not in the stimulant family. Think of it as a safety net that the dentist is putting around you to avoid anything happening and what a great dentist you have..
Avatar n tn I had a 2nd trimester miscarriage the day that I had a mole removed at my dermatologist. They used Epinephrine and Xylocaine and when we received the autopsy report it revealed that my baby was perfectly normal and healthy without chromosonal issues prior to him dieing in my womb that day. Has anyone experienced this or known anyone who has? I researched on the web and found many warnings about pregnant women receiving Lidocaine from the dentist but not what they gave me.
1305767 tn?1361192676 I have to make sure when I take cold medicine it doesn't contain pseudoephedrine because it will raise my heart rate and make me all jittery and anxious.
Avatar n tn The second trimester is OK to do dental work if necessary. I'm not sure i follow. The root canal has gone bad and you're in pain?? or the tooth has broken and you will require a post and crown to restore the tooth. Either way, it's OK to have novocaine without epinephrine, and only take x-rays if absolutely necessary with double shielding.

Avatar f tn im training as dentist and in want to know about dental surgery in drug abusers- what problems do you anticipate
Avatar m tn I've dental work done in the past 3 weeks and I've been prescribed two antibiotics. Zithromax took for 5 days as directed One week later prescribed Amoxycillin 2x875mg twice daily for 7 days. On the 4th day of the amoxy I woke up with hives mostly on arms neck and chest and a little red dwelling around lower left eye (lid swollen) (i stopped the amoxy) I took Benedryl 1x25mg four times 4 hours apart.
Avatar f tn Epinephrine is the a hormone and neurotransmiter. It is produced by the adrenal gland an is a "fight-or-flight catecholamine." So is norepinephrine. In biochemistry, the prefix "nor" means that norepinephrine is an analog of epinephrine. They function quite differently in the body. epinephrine is most commonly thought of in terms of t effect on the sympathetic nervous system - increasing heart rate, increasing blood pressure, hyper alertness, etc.
