hormone

Avatar f tn In Canada I expect that it won't be easy but you are going to have to feed your doctor enough information that conflicts with his training and inherent beliefs (not to mention the pressure from the NHS), to get him to read and re-consider what he has been doing for years, no doubt. Starting right from the definition of hypothyroidism, it is not just inadequate thyroid hormone.
1314782 tn?1323180585 Thanks for your comment. Yes, I have had an MRI W/ Contrast at a major hospital, with specific emphasis on the pituitary.. and was normal. Your theory of pituitary pathology made sense to both me and my doctor, especially when I had 2 labs which demonstrated a TSH of < 0.05 and a low T4 (on the upper-end on low, but flagged, while my T3 was normal (borderline high) but within the normal range.
Avatar n tn Hypothyroidism is usually defined as "insufficient thyroid hormone", which is assumed to be reliably determined by the pituitary hormone TSH, as a surrogate for Free T4. Instead the correct definition is "insufficient T3 effect in tissue throughout the body due to inadequate supply of, or response to, thyroid hormone." So it is not just the supply, but also the response to thyroid hormone at the cellular level.
Avatar f tn If the patient has symptoms that are frequently indicative of hypothyroidism and the Free T4 and Free T3 are in the lower half of their range, that is indicative of hypothyroidism. Inadequate ferritin (a storage form of iron) adversely affects conversion of T4 to T3. In addition, a deficiency in cortisol or Vitamin D adversely affects response to thyroid hormone at the cellular level.
Avatar n tn Hypothyroidism is not just inadequate thyroid hormone. The correct definition is "insufficient tissue T3 effect due to inadequate supply of, or response to, thyroid hormone". So it is not just thyroid hormone levels, there are a number of other variables that affect Tissue T3 Effect, which is synonymous with your thyroid status. In addition there is no biochemical tests that can be used as pass/fail decisions about a person''s thyroid status.
Avatar m tn You should try organic or cage free eggs. Most grocery stores carry them.
Avatar f tn however, he is wrong not to test for Free T3 and add a source of T3 to your med to raise your Free T3 level above the middle of its range. In the PM I will provide information that will hopefully give you all the evidence needed to get your doctor to reconsider and do the additional tests required so that you can supplement as needed to optimize, and also prescribe T3 med adequate to raise your Free T3 above mid-range.
Avatar m tn My definition of Crazy. Anyone who would put themselves through terrible, terrible WD's more than once in their lifetime. Freezing your butt off while and the same time sweating like you just ran wind sprints. Not being able to get more than 10 paces away from the toilet. Insomnia so bad you can't remember the last time you had a dream. Leg aches and leg cramps. Stomach cramps like you just are Mexican food across the border and you don't know if you are beef or kitty cat ribs.
Avatar n tn Hypothyroidism is not just caused by inadequate thyroid hormone. The correct definition is "insufficient T3 effect in tissue throughout the body due to inadequate supply of, or response to, thyroid hormone". Your current Free T4 level is more than adequate but you don't know what your Free T3 level is, so you cannot know if your T4 med dosage is being adequately converted to T3.
Avatar f tn What was your dose before going to the Endo two years ago? When your Free T4 was about 1.4 and TSH 3.0 were you symptom free at that time? You said the doctor started increasing your doses. When did you start noticing the symptoms you mentioned: super anxious, not sleeping fatigue and heart palpitations?
Avatar m tn He he sorry to giggle but you may need it... me I am growing grapes and figs amd lemons ..well I say growing ,some havent made it this year , Olives are really tough they thrive it seems to me, but my grapes ..no and I had 4 blue berries off my bush, am persevering but I really thought these grapes would yield some wine...
401095 tn?1351391770 if you are getting onother drug like meth i dont consider it clean time i feel its just a stop gap my doctor offered me meth on tuesday but i refused i consider clean time when your body has no opaites in it heroin is an opiate so if i took meth or any of the formentioned then how can we say we are clean clean time to me means no opiates what so ever in our bodies although it would help a lot of people who struggle to get clean i hope that makes some scence
Avatar f tn A suppressed TSH is a treated person does not mean hyperthyroidism unless there are attendant hyper symptoms due to excessive levels of Free T4 and Free T3, which you clearly do not have. Your Free T4 is only 20% of its range, and your Free T3 only 40% of its range. So TSH should not be used to determine thyroid hormone dosage. Also there are scientific studies showing that TSH is usually suppressed when taking thyroid med adequate to relieve hypo symptoms.
Avatar f tn Yes, assuming the thyroid gland is capable of producing hormone, it will continue to do so in response to the amount of TSH produced to stimulate production of thyroid hormone. By definition suppression it is when the TSH level drops below the reference range.
Avatar f tn As this proceeds, the TSH level rises in an effort to stimulate more output of thyroid hormone. You are likely in the early stages of Hashi's based on your test results, but you are already suffering with symptoms that are frequently related to being hypothyroid. Even though your FT4 and FT3 results are within range, that does not preclude having hypo symptoms.
Avatar n tn So your most recent labs before the dose change was Free T4 at 1.57, which is 79% of its range, while Free T3 of 3.0 was at 43% of its range. This is kind of typical for a hypothyroid patient taking T4 med. The Free T3 lags Free T4 because of inadequate conversion of T4 to T3. The correct definition for hypothyroidism is "insufficient T3 effect in tissue throughout the body, due to inadequate supply of, or response to, thyroid hormone".
Avatar f tn Ideally, to avoid hypo symptoms, you want to see your Free T4 at least mid-range, and your Free T3 in the upper third of its range. Another possibility would be an allergy to something you were given or exposed to in the hospital, or even to the onset of pollen season. Have you ever shown symptoms of being allergic to something?

Avatar n tn s will do Total T3, however, this is outdated and bound with protein in the blood. You want to see the amount of the thyroid hormone that is FREE(availabe in the blood for uptake into the cells.) It's the t3 that the body must have to function properly. It is important to know that Synthroid is a t4 only synthetic medication that must convert in the body to T3 and the T3 is then uptaken into the cells. Most people convert t4 efficiently into the t3, however, some ( like my daughter ) do not.
Avatar f tn In reality you are hyperthyroid only if having hyper symptoms due to excessive levels of Free T3 and Free T4, which you did not have. In fact you were not even tested for Free T3 and your Free T4 was just above mid-range, and your Total T3 was only at 23% of its range. How is that supposed to make you hyperthyroid? To start diagnosis and treatment a doctor really needs to know the correct definition of hypothyroidism.
