Common Questions and Answers about Dealing with death of a pet

death

Avatar f tn Just like falling in love takes time so does dealing with a passing of a loved one.Just opposite ways of feeling.Love and loss, two parts of life that both hurt. For loving anyone or anything, such as a pet can lead to pain. All feelings lead to pain and despair, eventually. So do we stop feeling, stop loving, stop caring,no we just learn to adjust to our new lives without that loved one that pet, that friend.whom ever.Death ends a life, not a relationship.
228686 tn?1211554707 As mentioned above, it is very hard dealing with the suffering of the animals. I always felt I had a good perspective on the whole issue, but this recent death made me realize I was perhaps somewhat out of focus. I think I've just had to personally put down and seen put down just one cat to many. It's something I've never cared for and with changes to funding and services I'm beginning to feel more like an executioner than a help.

Avatar f tn Has anyone ever talked to their therapist when a pet died. We had to put our beloved dog down 2 weeks ago. It hurts so bad. I wonder if anyone here ever got therapy for their pet. I see a therapist off and on but everything I've read about loss of a pet is that it just takes time.
Avatar m tn Sorry to hear about your mums dog, its very sad when ever we loose one of our pets. Sudden death is uncommon in our pets. The more common reasons for suden death include: 1) Hemangiosarcoma. These are blood vessel tumors typically of the liver, spleen, or base of the heart. These tunors are fragile. When they rupture the pet bleeds internally and can pass away quickly. 2) Gastric dilitation and volvulus. This is when the stomach twists and the pet bloats.
1118884 tn?1338592850 many human friends, a few feline ones, and even tolerated his cousin, a high-strung Yorkie. As my post-cancer life continues: focus now on how to repair or live with radiation damaged tissues; watching for spread of cells or reoccurrence, I wonder if I can take care of another kitty. There were many times I thought Bruno and I might pop off at the same time, as both of us were seniors. I fight agoraphobia, but am doing much better than 6 months ago. Go out most days.
Avatar f tn A fear of death is quite normal and is actually a fear of the unknown. Has he know someone or something (pet) that has died or seen it on TV? I don't know your spiritual background, but whatever it is, that is a good place to start talking to him about it. Speak to him about (your belief) of what happens after death and that it is a natural process of life.
Avatar f tn seems to be dying a slow death. I dont have the money to take him to another vet. Can someone PLEASE tell me what to do. Is there anything I can do at home.
Avatar m tn There were no blood, vomit, or anything at the scene of his death. A lot of dogs die before they are expected but they usually have vomit or so,etching and are 10 years of age. But He was only 2 years old and there was nothing! Vets say it's just that one dog out of a million that just die with no reason. That he just went to sleep and just never woke up. I just find this hard to belive and deal with and I want to find a purpose or a reason for his death.
1098760 tn?1266447897 The Animals not their Pet-its Literally their Life. The prospect of loosing their dog is like a death sentence. Not like a lost loved one/pet that you just get over and replace with a new one. For regular pet owners, always be cautious and expect the wounds worse then it looks and take your dogs in when ever possible. Im poor like most people and contemplated treating it at home because of money issues and and inability to drive to get him help.
Avatar f tn for the baby and how much will effect him. I usually a very emotional person when dealing with death and I feel like a horrible person for not allowing myself to feel bad. What do I do???
124426 tn?1239928000 m so sorry for your loss! I lost my 16 year old baby due to kidney failure following two years of IV subcutaneous. He lived a happy two years, but his kidneys were not that bad when we first found out. It was a routine check up when we found it. When he finally got to where your baby was, we had to put him down. They become our children and what a horrible loss! My prayers are with you.
Avatar f tn What a terrible tragedy. I am so sorry for you both. It may make you feel less alone to know nearly the same thing happened to me with my first dog, Travis. He was over 13 years old and LOVED to chew on bones. I had smoked a rack of pork ribs and as usual, passed one over to him. That night and the next day he was vomiting up everything including water.
Avatar f tn I lost a a brother, a son and a gandson and we NEVER get over this type of loss. We learn to move on, to cope, we manage. It does get easier, I don't know how or why, just that it does. Often you will think of your brother and smile, other times you will cry. Your brother would want you to be happy, and you must carry on his memory thru you! But there are no words of comfort right now, just that you try to keep moving forward with your life.
Avatar n tn If she is having nightmares that make her think she may die then you need to address what has happened to make her have these. But this obcession over dying in a child will show up after the death of a family member, friend, relative, pet, etc, but at four, a child has difficulty comprehending death in any aspect. Because you were never treated for your anxiety and fear it may be in some way your daughter has picked up on this.
Avatar f tn I lost my grandfather a few months ago at the beginning not my pregnancy. .with a good support system it was easier. I truly believed he was in a better place. Somehow carrying a child made it alot easier to deal with.
Avatar f tn The local pet store like pet smart or pet Co sell silicone nail covers for cats. You put a drop of super glue in the then slide it on the cats nail. It lasts about 3 weeks depending on how active the cat is. Hope this alternative helps you and saves your legs!
Avatar n tn Coping and dealing with anxiety can bring all sorts of feelings and symptoms in my experience with it. There was a time when I was afraid to even leave my house....fear and anxiousness about these types of things are common in my opinion. I had a constant feeling of dread...anxiety takes its toll on us both mentally and physically and it can wear us down. Are you seeing a counselor right now? For me, one on one or group counseling really helped me put things into perspective.
Avatar n tn the funeral is this week and i dont know how she is going to be,im worried because she isnt more upset or is this just her way of dealing with this. we do speak to her about it and speak about her friend but she seems to show no emotion at all.
Avatar n tn He is the person who should be discussing the cause of death with you. If possible, obtain a copy of the written autopsy report and review it with your vet. With the written report, you can also post the results to our Med Help vets on the Ask a Vet forum for their opinion. I assume you are in a cold part of the country if the vet initially suspected hypothermia? Was she generally an indoor pet and not used to being outside for long periods of time?
Avatar m tn I have already been the beneficiary of some great advice from Vance and Teak. A question for the group... How do you deal with all the differing views on risk behavior? For example, this forum has a pretty firm stance about the low/no risk nature of oral sex for hiv transmission. Yet even my own cities Met Health Clinic (SA, TX) councils that getting a blow job is high risk due to potential lesions, etc.
