736475 tn?1281259327 Oopps - I had the same thing happen to me when using the patch. Do Not Wear The Patch to Bed!!! After all, did we smoke while we were sleeping? Take it off at bed then put a new one on first thing in the morning. Sweet dreams should return.
Avatar f tn Sorry I wasn't clear with my post, I'm just at wits end. He was on day 19 of the 14mg patch, and I'm sure he wasn't smoking this time. He was with me so no chance to sneak. Now he wants to try the lower dose patch, or he said he is going back to smoking. I've told him he better check it out that neither will cause more problems, but he hasn't done anything to check it out. Does that clear anything up for you and others?
1391959 tn?1280439862 I'm not sure about the patch. You're at a higher risk for blood clots when you're pregnant, and that's one of the dangers of the patch as well. I would try to wean yourself off the cigarettes. I smoked in the beginning with my first, and this baby.
685562 tn?1447155231 I just got sick of being scared of the health consequences. I also got tired of stinking of smoke and burning holes from falling ashes. I've tried various methods-hypnosis didn't work at all, the gum...hell, I used to recharge the gum by smoking white chewing it. The original patch, Nicotrol helpled TREMENDOUSLY.Oddly enough when I relapsed and tried Nicoderm CQ, that patch did NOTHING for me...Nicotrol is the only one that worked.
Avatar n tn t let anyone give you that excuse that it is so stressful to quit smoking that you may as well keep smoking. Smoking is poison for the baby, they'd rather have the stress. But if you get the patch it should not be that stressful. My brother quit in one day because -- guess what happened from his smoking, he had a heart attack and found out he needed a quadruple bypass. (Wakes you up, right?) He did it easily by using a patch, said he never missed the cigs.
Avatar m tn A lot of people get addicted to the gum but I have never heard of anyone that is still wearing the patch years later. Before you begin, you have to prepare yourself mentally & emotionally for what you are about to do. Read the articles at whyquitdotcom and read the archived on this forum too. They are even searchable so if you want support in a specific area you can use it. Figuring out why we smoke is the key to quitting so once you understand, you can better prepare yourself.
498385 tn?1362449404 These should be listed on the pakage. As for smoking while on the patch, you are not supposed to do it. Could it cause a heart attack......well, given that you are taking in twice the amount of nicotine, anything is possible. You really have to prepare yourself mentally for this quit......don't wear the patch until you are ready to never pick up another smoke. Nothing works when you half-a$$ it so make up your mind to put them down for good and just do it! If I did it, anyone can!
Avatar n tn I am ignorant when it comes to the patch, but I would think that wearing one and chewing the gum is extremely dangerous! I quit at 52 and I smoked from age 12. I have to say that you can quit but you you really have to want it more then anything. If you don't want it desperately, then it won't happen. All of our failed attempts failed because we weren't ready to commit to it.
Avatar f tn This is a really good question!! I will second the advice you've received from Paxiled and Maddie. While I'm sure DoctorGoddess has good intentions, none of us on an internet forum can tell you what you DO or don't have. I would also be inclined to tell you to maybe give a nicotine patch a try, but what's curious to me is that the relief you feel post smoking is VERY short lived.
Avatar n tn the high school principal in the city i live in died smoking a cig with the patch on. he had a heart attack. too much nicotine in the blood stream can stop your heart. they have that warning for a reason, it can be deadly. in this case the principal was wearing it to help him get through the day, but would still go out and have a cig on his break. he took a long break.
Avatar f tn m definitely a stress smoker so lowering my stress has helped me quit smoking without using any of the regular quitting methods. Also surround yourself with people who don't smoke, and note the times where you usually smoke -morning with coffee, 10 minute break, etc- and find something to replace it. (This can help with break the habit, which is definitely that hardest part.
1128145 tn?1260343690 Talk to your pharmacist to clarify the specifics of how you can use heat on your body, away from the patch location. A heating pad on another part of you body away from patch placement should not effect the disbursement of the medication. Never put a heating pad or any form of heat on the patch. I applied the patch to my upper shoulder and placed a heating pad on my hip. I also used a heated rice bag on my lower back. There were no ramifications. Again discuss this with your pharmacist.
Avatar f tn Right now I am on the 21 mg patch, and I have been smoking a little here and there after taking off the patch. I have a severe headache, I am nausious, my lungs feel like their closes up, which is making my asthma worse, and now I have a pain in my right arm. Is this a sign of a nicotine overdose? If so, what should I do?
Avatar f tn I don't know what the side effects of chantrix are. The patch would definately be better than smoking. I quit when I found out I was pregnant, so I know what you are going through. But, remember that nicotine in any form isn't good for the baby so don't rely on chantrix or the patch any longer than neccesary. Good Luck!
Avatar m tn Are you wearing a Nicotine patch? I too was beginning to quit smoking "only smoked like 2-3 cigs a day" and was wearing a patch, and that was around the time I started to feel Extreme anxiety. Yes nicotine can cause anxiety, what nicotine does is lets more Dopamine in your brain, a natural chemical that is in your brain to help you "feel good" when you stop feeding your brain that, it "punishes you" so you want to smoke again.
Avatar n tn s more likely you would have seen something within a week or two of your quitting smoking. If the symptoms have increased you should probably check back with your doctor and see if changes need to be made to your medication or your diet.
Avatar f tn I think its both positive and negative. It teaches the kids the dangers of smoking/second hand smoke and the problems it can cause as well as the result od death. As for the negative, the kids with the smoking patents are now worrying about losing their parent(s) due to the day care. Im an ex smoker myself.
318890 tn?1297965320 That's probably what you experienced! I can't imagine how sick you must have felt, wearing the patch, chewing the gum and using the lozenges, wow! Now you know and I'm sure you aren't likely to repeat it. I believe you talked about having a young child. That's enough reason to try as hard as you can to get rid of all your bad habits ; ) If you get a craving why not read some of the articles at whyquit.com.
4852917 tn?1386378680 I am 6 weeks and I have cut back a lot. I was thinking of trying the patch and have switched to e cigs . Are patches okay?
Avatar f tn m like omg I just need a blunt because my head usually starts hurting after a while of not smoking and I get really frustrated and just want to be left alone getting high was my way of coping with my problems stress etc and basically I just like the feeling but I think of my baby and can't do it I just can not do it bc my baby is more important than my needs everyone around me tells me go ahead it's ok and I tell them they are such bad people for telling me to instead of helping me out t

Avatar n tn The root cause sounds like it is the location of the cyst as that is near the optic nerve I think. The third ventricle is beneath the corpus callosum and surrounded by the thalamus. I think your cyst is in the Foramen of Monro or Interventricular foramina based on what you said. Until the cyst changes size - by surgery or something - it is not going to change. You need to address that with a neurosurgeon.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm just curious in people's opinions of something. I am an ex smoker. No longer have the habit. My child's daycare have been taught that smoking kills people etc.. so move away from people if they're smoking. A lot of parents from the daycare have come in abusing the child care Centre as they're smokers and there young children keep telling them they're going to die.
Avatar n tn m hurting my baby (my first, and we had a hell of a time getting this far). I heard that the patch is unsafe with pregnancy, since it puts nicotine more directly to the baby than smoking, and often in higher doses. I'm wondering what other women have done. How can I quit? I told my husband I will stop smoking by our next doctor's appointment (2 weeks from now) and I'm having a really hard time saying no to the cigarettes. And they don't even taste good! Please help me.
