Avatar n tn i am a 16 year old diabetic type 1 who would like to know the dangers of smoking cannabis?
Avatar n tn During the winter my father heats the house with a wood stove. knowing what I know about the dangers of smoking (even though I still smoke outside) I began to wonder, with winter weather already going on in my neck of the woods, if the smoke from the wood stove might be as dangerous for his health as the smoke from my Marlboro. I've been doing some research about wood burning stoves and people with heart conditions.
Avatar f tn I think its both positive and negative. It teaches the kids the dangers of smoking/second hand smoke and the problems it can cause as well as the result od death. As for the negative, the kids with the smoking patents are now worrying about losing their parent(s) due to the day care. Im an ex smoker myself.
Avatar f tn Hookah smoke contains high levels of toxic compounds, including tar, carbon monoxide, heavy metals and cancer-causing chemicals (carcinogens). In fact, hookah smokers are exposed to more carbon monoxide and smoke than are cigarette smokers. As with cigarette smoking, hookah smoking is linked to lung and oral cancers, heart disease, and other serious illnesses. Hookah smoking delivers about the same amount of nicotine as cigarette smoking, possibly leading to tobacco dependence.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm just curious in people's opinions of something. I am an ex smoker. No longer have the habit. My child's daycare have been taught that smoking kills people etc.. so move away from people if they're smoking. A lot of parents from the daycare have come in abusing the child care Centre as they're smokers and there young children keep telling them they're going to die.
Avatar f tn I do know that cigarette smoke temporarily immobilizes the cilia in your lungs, which generally do the job of sweeping out the junk from your lungs. I can see the shortness of breath being due to the extra mucous being stuck in your lungs. However if this doesn't clear up say by 8 weeks, then perhaps it would be an idea to see your doctor, as there maybe an underlying lung condition. Especially if it really starts to interfere with your every day life.
Avatar n tn Dear Dr Saini I am a London, UK-based, 51 yo male and heavy smoker of 35 years duration. (I have now stopped smoking and it is 15 days since I stopped.) For 3-4 weeks I had been suffering a very bad dry cough accompanied by real tightness high in the chest, wheezing and breathlessness. This was at its worse at night, and frequently woke me up in the early hours when I had to stand up or sit upright to breathe. There was no release of phlegm attached to these symptoms.
Avatar n tn COPD is Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which a chronic disease and causes symptoms of cough, breathlessness and wheezing. The commonest cause for COPD is smoking. The lungs age with smoking as in comparison to the person’s age. If you stop smoking at this point, the lungs are not damaged any further, though the damage that has already been done cannot be reversed. So, giving up smoking would be first step towards controlling COPD.
Avatar f tn That is CHILD abuse in an awful for. The baby isn't here yet and she's already putting it thru hell. I'm glad you are doing good and not trying to rush your baby out. Maybe you could print some information on the dangers of what she's doing to her baby from the internet? So so sad.
Avatar f tn I disagree with the comment that we should accept it and not try to educate people about the dangers of smoking while pregnant. There are a lot of really young moms on here and notall do know all the risks with smoking.

Avatar m tn Main thing is, inhale deeply and fill your lungs before you jump. Your breathing apparatus (either trachea or lungs, I'm not sure) can spasm shut with the shock of cold water. If you have empty lungs (such as, you have shouted "Look at me!" as you plunge in), you will be momentarily unable to intake a breath. If that happens to someone with full lungs, the air in the lungs will do a lot to float the person up to the surface.
Avatar m tn This is a condition wherein there is destruction of tissue supporting the alveoli, which ultimately results in loss of elasticity of lung tissue and chronic symptoms of dyspnea (difficulty in breathing). Emphysematous lungs typically appear in CT or x-rays as hyperinflated regions. Cigarette smoking is the usual cause of the destruction in lung tissue which results in emphysema. If you smoke, now is a good time to stop, since doing so would arrest the progression of the emphysema.
Avatar f tn I have just been told I have 2 cysts in the top part of my lungs and that it is down to smoking, is this something I should be worried about?
Avatar f tn Not only is the action of smoking itself is detrimental to the health of the baby, but we do not know how cannabis intake can affect the developing brain.I understand that smoking is extremely addictive, but there are certain things we do for our kid that are very hard, and one of them is being pregnant, taking care of our bodies while pregnant and nursing (and I am not even talking about giving birth!). That is only the start of a difficult life of a parent.
Avatar f tn After 37 weeks their lungs should be totally developed and surfucant which is a substance in the lungs keeps the lungs from collapsing is at high enough levels. They due still have at higher risk of jaundice and glucose issues though. My little man a bit of jaundice but other than that he was fine.
Avatar f tn Also, I knew a guy who was always tired and drained and it turned out that the cigarettes were harming him so much that the cigarettes were creating a sludge in his lungs and liver, leading to excessive lack of energy. I smoke and I know it's hard to quit but quitting would probably be helpful for you. Warning though, if you get very dizzy, cold sweats, shakiness, and sometimes nausea all together can be a sign you may faint or lose consciousness. Be careful and good luck to you!
Avatar f tn My doctor stated that the lungs can heal if not too damaged for the first year after you quit. But, I have been reading that once you get the emphysema destruction, it's not reversable. I have been reading also that it only shows in an xray with more advanced stages and the doc claimed I was just starting with it. I don't know what to believe. I do know that I had bronchitis and asthma because I was running fever and coughing my head off.
789910 tn?1236878388 One of my old friends that smoked has extreme breathing difficulties, on a puffer, her mind is shot now and wakes up in a lot of pain from years of smoking. I suggest you find a way to quit this drug and you WILL need help, crack is a monster to kick. Don't wait till your body shuts down and your carried away in a body bag. Do you want to quit?
Avatar m tn I do smoke marijuana, that is the only thing i smoke. My lungs as of recent have been fine, here or there they would hurt from me smoking too much and i would have to take it easy. Now these last few months, Ive been throwing up out of my lungs somehow, some sort of clear Gooy-spit thats sometimes completely bubbly or sometimes clear. I cough non stop throughout the day, even when i do not smoke. Im not sure if i have an infection or what and seeking advice..
563648 tn?1294323177 I'm 26 yrs old...smoking for about eight years now...I sometimes get terrible shortness of breath episodes...currently experiencing it now. I don't exercise. About a year ago I went to a pulmonologist, and had a lung function test done..which came back normal...have also had several tests done on my heart including numerous ekgs, halter monitor, event monitor for thirty days, and stress test....all normal. My doctor says that I have anxiety disorder, and am on Klonopin for that.
