Dangers of smoking before surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Dangers of smoking before surgery

smoking

However I've been delaying on my own due to the fact that I still haven't quit smoking (again). Does having surgery while having quit heavy smoking for a month make it alot safer? How long do you have to quit for, before the safety level stops increasing rapidly? I've heard 1 month, and I've also heard 6 months...but I've also heard that it can actually make it MORE dangerous if you've just recently quit...
I am writing for a friend. She recently had surgery for cancer of her kidney. Surgery was successful and she is neither on chemo or radiation therapy. After surgery she became very depressed and cried frequently. It has now been about two months since the surgery. I myself, have gone thru severe situational depression a few years back and have compeltely recovered, so I am familiar with how my friend is feeling. She is now taking Prozac, which has just been upped to twice daily.
I just looked up this medication and yes it can be dangerous and addicting due to the codeine it contains. i would be careful ad re-evaluate why you are using it. Would you like to stop using it? There are alternatives for pain management and if you read up on medications, you will actually find that narcotics can make pain worse after taking it for any length of time.
and my sgpt alt came to 78 ..is it danger .. i had 5 glass of whiskey 48 hrs before taking test ...does it can be the cause of increased sgpt...
I've had alot of complications, but its not really related to the cigarette smoke. If you have to smoke...just try to cut down after your surgery...at least for a week or so...give your body time to heal.
If it wouldn't have he would've had to have MAJOR surgery on his airway. So please don't think that smoking is ok. Like I said he was full term and almost 8 pounds I thought everything was going to be ok. It wasn't... And like the previous post said you NEVER know what long term effects will come from smoking.
smoking should be higher, not smoking should be lower --- UNLESS, you are SO stressed when not smoking that yours goes up from the stress. I smoked for close to 40 yrs, but quit 3+ yrs ago due to excess tissue on my vocal cords (mostly caused by smoking), which was causing my voice to "go away" - my vocal cords really no longer worked, so the only sound I could make was the "tissue" vibrating instead of my vocal cords...
I have the "smoke" smells moreso some months than others. I have gone several months without smelling the "smoke" and some months it's as frequent as daily, It is rather annoying if nothing else. My family of course never smell a thing like smoke. I imagine that this "tumor" mention could be a dangerous situation so should I worry more about this?
I was sitting in the doctor's surgery reading a magazine when someone sat down close to me smelling of smoke. Maybe caregiver is right in that for some people it does trigger memories of past events (which for some asthmatics have been traumatic). Perhaps it's a combination of both -actual trigger and learned response. ??
I am not even a specific type of smoker because I smoke for everything. I smoke because I put out a smoke. I have light nagging cravings almost constantly and they turn into craving screams real fast. So I can afford, a box of the patch a week IF I penny pinch. OR A box of 42 inhaler cartridges every 1 1/2 weeks. OR There is a confusing web side called e-cig that sells cheap inhaler like products. But I am so confused. Model types, liquid, cartridges, inhalers, USB cords ?!?!
I SMOKED HEAVILY BEFORE I GOT PREGNANT THE FIRST TIME. I STOPPED SMOKING AS SOON AS I GOT THE + TEST. IF I WERE YOU I WOULD NOT WANT TO PUT ANYTHING INTO MY BODY THAT MAY HARM MY BABY..... SURELY YOU CAN WAIT JUST A FEW MONTHS TO SMOKE AGAIN. YOUR BABY DESERVES A HEALTHY START....... DONT DEPRIVE HIM/HER OF THAT!
I also smell smoke all the time. I am a cancer survivor, went through chemo and surgeries. About six months after the last chemo treatment in 2007,I came down with burning mouth syndrome which no doctor could diagnose but I found a medical journal article on line and brought it to my doc. No treatment for that. Then I came down with viral thyroiditis. I was hyperthyroid for a while then went into hypo over a period of months. This was between 2007 - 2009.
I had to do a bowel prep for all of my surgeries and it really helps with your gas and moving things down there after the surgery. Before my last surgery I got the speel about possible bladder involvement, adhesions, endometriosis and bowel resection. Although it was cancer and I did have lots of adhesions there was no problem with my bowel or bladder. I was happy they were prepared and they could do everything they needed right then. Best of luck! I hope your surgery goes well.
This all goes hand-in-hand with the feelings derived from the drug, the need to fit in, and so on. Does that make sense? If someone realizes the inherent dangers of smoking, it's fair to say that they probably also understand the inherent dangers of other drugs. And if they choose not to smoke, then it's more likely they won't use other harder drugs. Again, this is not always the case. I also agree that the people you hang around with play a significant role in what you will do.
I fretted for several weeks before I got in to see a neuro. I had already researched surgeries, etc. figuring its a ticking time bomb and surgery was required. To my surprise the neuro really put me at ease and recommended the exact thing as your doc: recheck it in 12 months. Its still a bit unsettling but he was adamant that no surgeon would operate on this at this stage. He actually called it a pre-aneursym or infindubulum. Where is your aneurysm located?
It's just not worth it, it's not like you need it, so just stop. Smoking cigs is dangerous enough with a baby, what would make you think that smoking pot, would be OK. I also know a family that lost there kids to drugs, they were taken away from them. Those kids will remember that and they are not getting good role models would you want your babies to grow up and smoke pot because mommy did.
I haven't had a drink since I quit smoking. Really before that. Not worth the pain. I did find the quiting smoking was harder for me then quitting the hydro. Now they are putting those darn quitting ads on tv.....what a test! I don't think about them much anymore until I see the ads. I smoked more when I was on the pills.
Please Pray for My Strength! It is such a disgusting habit! But I LOVE to SMOKE!
I would think that to lose just 40 lbs they would not do a lapband surgery or any weight loss surgery for you -- the surgery is for people who are morbidly obese. Even though at 5 ft. and 180 lbs you are overweight -- I would think you could take off the excess weight through diet and exercise -- or try a program such as Weight Watchers or Nutri-System, Jenny Craig, TOPS, in combination with a gym membership or YMCA if possible. I am 5'4" and a few years ago went from 181 lbs.
He lives for our kids and is the responsible one in our relationship. The problem is he lets me know it ALL THE TIME. I have never smoked pot so does anyone have any comments on how long this will last. What should I expect as far as withdrawel? He's seen me detox at home sooo many times but I was never mean to him. I should be grateful that we will both finally be clean for our kids. I think I'm afraid I'll relapse because he makes me feel so badly about myself when he's like this.
) Of course, I am going to wait until I can find out what's going on before I go through a second breast surgery. I did fine with the first one (in & out in 20 minutes) but that was in 2008. I will wait till I know :) As for the Atenolol, that's another issue in itself. My PCP that prescribed it... what a joke. I hadn't seen him since 2007, so this was my first time seeing him in 2 years. He asked me if I was on any medication & I told him no.
I can go hours with none and then have several hours where I'll have 2 or 3 a minute. It's setting me over the edge. I don't know if it's dangerous or not. I went to the ER the other day and they basically didn't care at all and just had me take Ativan and sent me home. Today I panicked and called the paramedics who came and did a 12 lead and they said normal sinus with one ectopic and so I didn't go back to the ER. I had a normal echo 3 years ago. I already don't eat caffeine or sugar.
First of all, smoking anything during pregnancy deprives the fetus of oxygen. Just as smoking tobacco is discouraged in pregnant women, so is smoking marijuana. Smoking any type of substance interferes with the fetus's blood supply. This can mean the fetus doesn't get enough oxygen, and s/he may be born smaller in both weight and length.
It is scary dangerous to get that low, especially after surgery. So best bet would be to talk to your doc about it. If you don't want blood find out how low they are comfortable with it being before forcing the issue.
i had surgery once and had been smoking meth. everything went ok, except my blood pressure was up a lil but got it under control. and when i awoke i wasnt groggy for long.
shtml Do these work or are they full of smoke? Has anybody tried this procedure? Please share your thoughts. Thanks.
He has no high blood pressure and all of the blood work is perfect, never another problem, and does not smoke. His father had a bypass when he was exactly 49 there at Cleveland Clinic, and had never had a problem. My dad just can't seem to get back into his daily habits, what could be wrong? We are so worried about him and we are considering bringing him there.
I am however very happy with the outcome of my surgery, my reflux is 10 times better than it was before. I guess some things just can't be totally corrected.
You seriously need to have tried it successfully with contact lenses before considering monovision after cataract surgery. The intraocular lens implants used with cataract surgery are basically permanant and not easily replaced, so changing your mind after the fact is something to be avoided at all costs. 3. Decide what your vision priority first and try to get that accomplished before going for priority number two.
My dr prescribed tramadol when I was trying to get off percocets. Before I started taking the prescription I posted on here to get some information about the drug. Your posts on this medication convinced me to just flush the stuff. You saved me from an even more difficult physical and mental withdrawl. Keep on preaching sister!!!
