Avatar n tn Check food allergies like wheat or dairy or nuts. Find out if you have a zinc deficiency with a blood test. Decrease sugar intake and increase vegetables.
Avatar n tn I went back to my regular doctor to get hormones, thyroid, allergies, vitamins and everything else tested and it all came back fine, except a copper and zinc deficiency. So I went on copper and zinc supplements and started incorporating copper and zinc heavy foods in my diet ( oysters, nuts…etc). Still this did not help.

Avatar f tn Recently, i have got some hard dandruff patches on my scalp. I experience a lot of itching in them. I oil my scalp regularly and use an anti dandruff shampoo but so far no improvement. I have 4-5 such patches on my scalp and every time i brush my hair, a lot of dandruff comes out. Someone please advise!
Avatar n tn One has to rule out alopecia areata, hair loss due to mechanical causes ( like frequent styling) and even iron deficiency. Iron levels and thyroid hormone levels need to be assessed. Deficient iron,Vit B complex and zinc may lead to hair loss and dry scalp. Hypothyroidism may also present with hair loss.
Avatar n tn I think this resulted in me developing serious dandruff. its been a problem for a while now. I think there is some hairloss and scalp is very dry and itchy. Everytime I run my fingers through my hand i can see flakes falling down. I plan on shaving my head and start applying some cream. Can you recommend any medicine or any remedies. I would really appreciate some help. thank you, max.
Avatar f tn it may be something as simple as a Zinc deficiency. Zinc is a mineral that we need to heal our skin. it also heals acne. Worth a try, i think, don't you?
Avatar m tn The major sign of zinc deficiency is affected taste. The zinc taste test is recommended. I have had this done for free at my local pharmacy showing i had zinc deficiency. You can also purchase zinc sulfate to try at home. I can't say for sure what all my zinc deficiency symptoms were as i has other severe deficiency states and medical conditions concurrently.
Avatar m tn what can i do about oily dandruff? all the things available in the market seem to be for dry dandruff. what products should i be using? any changes in my diet or lifestyle u could recommend?
Avatar m tn Copper supplements are incredibly cheap, but you want to be sure you have the deficiency. Copper and Zinc are in balance, so be careful you don't deplete your zinc. Using bracelets won't work. Again, supplementation is very cheap with this one, and you only need a very small amount. Or you can research foods that are rich in copper and do it that way.
Avatar m tn This is the 3rd summer in a row that I have been having problems with my scalp. I have been kind of keeping track and every year, for the last 3 years, I have gotten an itchy scalp that feels a lot like a normal dry scalp in the month of July and lasts until about March the next year. It is set off by me itching it or the scalp getting irritated by any kind of touch (ie hood, hat, someone else touches it) There is no redness or allergen like bumps of any kind.
Avatar n tn coal-tar preparations (Neutrogena T/Gel, Tegrin) ; Pyrithione zinc (Suave Dandruff Control, Pert Plus Dandruff Control, Head & Shoulders) ; Salicylic acid and sulfur (T-Sal, lonil T, Sebulex) ; Selenium sulfide (Selsun, Exsel); and Ketoconazole (Nizoral A-D). (ref: http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/understanding-dandruff-treatment)If these do not help, you may need stronger prescription shampoo from your doctor. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn Elevated TSH with normal labs is called subclinical hypothyroidism. There may or may not be any hypothyroid symptoms with this lab result. Exercising, eating better and correcting any deficiency states might see the TSH come down. I'd say retest in say 6 months. I have read you may become sensitive to foods you eat it often but if you stop eating those foods for some time you might be able to tolerate them again.
Avatar n tn It seems to me every time I am due for my period (or after it) I develop dandruff on my skin. Is this hormonally linked?

Avatar n tn Hi, The best way to treat dandruff is to use a dandruff shampoo. Look for shampoos with ingredients such as zinc pyrithone, salicyclic acid, coal tar, selenium silfide, or ketoconazole. All of these ingredients have been shown to work on dandruff; to use the shampoo, apply it to your scalp and hair, rub vigorously, and allow it to sit for five minutes so that the ingredients can work before rinsing it out.
Avatar m tn i am suffering from dandruff from las two months and due this only there is hair loss too. i am using NIZOLE shampoo.but it is not working.
Avatar n tn Hello, It can be due to dandruff, eczema or fungal infection. Dandruff can cause either an overly dry scalp with itchy white flakes that may be waxy or greasy, or it can manifest as an oily scalp with scales. Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help.
Avatar n tn Low immunity and loss of taste and smell can be from Zinc deficiency. You may also want to have your Vitamin D and C levels checked. I would see a good internist (preferably one specializing in integrative medicine) first!
Avatar m tn I used to have dandruff, but it has essentially cleared after using zinc shampoo a few times a week. But the skin is still greasy under my brow and on my eyelid, which results in hairs being weak and falling out. Any suggestions to clear up the greasy skin? I've tried hydrocortisone cream, but to little avail. Also, the condition seems to worsen after a night of drinking alcohol - is that part of the problem?
Avatar n tn The spots are not scaly. Whenever he applies a dandruff shampoo to it, it eases and goes away. He has been told that it is the dandruff that has run down to his face.Others say that it is his high alcohol consumption which is in correlation to some liver disorder. The spots tend to look like ring worm but not exactly. When the weather becomes cool, it also surfaces. What do you think this condition sounds like?
