Common Questions and Answers about Dandruff vs psoriasis scalp

dandruff

Avatar f tn Hi You might be suffering from scalp (seborrheic) dermatitis or scalp eczema or scalp psoriasis. The exact diagnosis depends on clinical examination. Seborrheic dermatitis presents as dry skin on the scalp, which flakes off (dandruff). The skin on the face, behind the ears, eyelids, nose and chest may also be affected. Symptoms of scalp eczema may include greasy yellowish scales that may turn flake off along intensely itchy and inflamed red scalp.

Avatar n tn ive had these weird rashes or pimples on my hairline in the upper forehead extending a little bit into my scalp, they kinda look like pimples but they're a little bit lighter in color.. and it kinda produces dandruff like stuff..
Avatar n tn All of these ingredients have been shown to work on dandruff; to use the shampoo, apply it to your scalp and hair, rub vigorously, and allow it to sit for five minutes so that the ingredients can work before rinsing it out. Dandruff shampoo should be used every few days, and you may need to try several shampoos before you find one which works.

They sometimes use UV light treatment but this is a lot harder on the scalp if you have hair. A dermatologist has things they can prescribe. My son doesn't have psoriasis but another fungal issue. He uses a special shampoo that controls it.
1305767 tn?1361192676 Does this look more like dandruff or psoriasis? It didn't used to be so bad but it's gotten worse and encroaching onto my forehead. I've also used dandruff shampoos to no avial. The weird thing is, it's only this dry and scaly job st after a shower. The next day it's hardly noticeable.
Avatar n tn A friend had psoriasis and it looked like big flakes coming from his scalp. Maybe you could ask the doctor (or a different doctor) whether this could be the case for you.

Avatar f tn When I look at it in te mirror it sort of looks like psoriasis of the scalp. Could thy cause swollen lymph nodes too?? I keep thinking I have cancer!
Avatar n tn Psoriasis of the scalp and dandruff are very common. The best thing I've ever heard of to combat it is the tar shampoos. T-Gel is a name brand and there are lots of knock off's with the same ingredients. This is what dermatologists recommend.
Avatar n tn Hello, It can be due to dandruff, eczema or fungal infection. Dandruff can cause either an overly dry scalp with itchy white flakes that may be waxy or greasy, or it can manifest as an oily scalp with scales. Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help.
Avatar n tn What can I do to get rid of persistent dandruff? Medicated shampoos just make it worse. Also have itchy head sometimes.
Avatar n tn I have never had dandruff before. The flakes are pretty big and there is this one spot where if i go to scratch my scalp it always bleeds. I have tried changing shampoos and washing my hair with cold water instead of hot but nothing has made it go away. I notice a reduction in flakes the day i shower but after that it gets worse. Im not sure if i should see a doctor or not. What could it be?

Avatar f tn ve been trying various dandruff shampoos but none of them have given me any relief to flakes or itch. Does it sound like general dandruff, or something more serious like excema or psoriasis? Is it something worth going to a dermatologist for?
Avatar m tn Also i used a scalp shampoo for some symptoms like psoriasis etc, and it made my hair feel sticky and i don't think i have those symptoms.
Avatar f tn ve experienced extremely dry and flaky scalp. Can you look at these photos and tell me what it is? Dry scalp, dandruff, scalp psoriasis, or seborrheic dermatitis. The bad part is, I just washed my hair on Monday night. I washed it, conditioned it, put a little of olive oil (food-grade), then I braided my hair in about 8 plaits. I have to wash my hair every week b/c of my scalp. I'm unable to wear twist-outs/braid-outs or any hairstyle that requires me to wear my hair out.
Avatar f tn Maybe its scalp psoriasis then.
876805 tn?1240185863 s pretty much for scalp issues such as oily scalp, dry scalp dandruff, psoriasis..) and then this conditioner called american classic tea tree conditioner.. it's absolutely amazing, the first time i used it i could FEEL the difference, it was like such a relief to my scalp. The first one whatever is in it soothes my scalp and then the tea tree oil does something else that helps, no idea what but it feels so much better. Hope that helps a little bit!!
Avatar n tn Hi there, The common causes of scalp sores are dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, acne and eczema. Since scalp sores are caused by numerous conditions it is difficult to determine the correct treatment without a complete clinical examination. Low Levels of Zinc in the scalp, clogged and bacteria filled hair follicles, very low circulation levels, too high pH level in the delicate scalp skin are few predisposing factors for scalp sores.
Avatar n tn Had you ever seen a dermatologist related to your scalp condition and psoriasis? Believe it or not, prednisone is something used to treat psoriasis. I guess you probably can believe that now. Talk to your doctor as this may be something yo can go back to in the future for relief. https://www.hcplive.
