Dandruff vs head lice

Common Questions and Answers about Dandruff vs head lice

dandruff

Avatar n tn My 2 children both had a case of head lice this past summer. I treated both of them but have been extremely paranoid every since. I always am checking their heads and mine. I have been seeing white things in their hair but they easily brush off. It seems like dandruff. This is all located around the ear area. Do I need to worry? I also constantly worry that I have lice..my head is itchy but I also only see what appears to be dandruff.
Avatar f tn Ok so for about 3 weeks now I have had an itchy scalp. I thought it was just from dandruff, which I get from this time of year, along with an itchy scalp. However, twice I have found centimeter-sized bugs in my hair when I was taking a shower. My mom has gone through my hair thoroughly three times and has found no bugs, only white flecks, which she can't distinguish dandruff from nit eggs.
4251679 tn?1370305531 Have any of you noticed your head bein itchy? I've checked for lice and don't have that. I don't have dandruff so I'm assuming my scalps not dry. What could this be?
Avatar n tn The GP or a chemist could tell u if it is head lice I would think. You would see them crawling around. To me it sounds more like either dandruff or psoriasis.
Avatar f tn I know it isn't dandruff or head lice. I've had my scalp checked several times. It didn't start itching until I was told I had RA a year and a half ago. That's the thing I know. Thanks for your help anyway.
Avatar f tn So I've been having this yellow tube-like things sticking to strands of my hair. My hair is pretty long and very very thick. I think it's head lice, but I NEVER feel the little lice crawling in there, my mom checks my hair on a daily basis very frequently and she sees nothing. I do have dandruff every once in a while though. I admit they do look like head lice nits, but I'm not sure. I think it may be head lice and I'm getting some treatment shampoo tomorrow and trying it.
905256 tn?1245172921 Hello, These dry scabs could have been due to lice or dandruff.Check whether your son’s scalp is infested with liceor dandruff. You may be able to see the lice or nits by parting your child's hair into small sections and checking for lice and nits on the scalp. If there is lice infestation, then pls shampoo the hair with anti lice shampoos which are available over the counter. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how your son is doing or if you have any additional doubts.
Avatar f tn My four year old has been scratching her head (all over her scalp) for a few weeks now. At first I thought it might be lice, but I inspect her hair every few days and haven't seen any nits or lice. As an infant she had eczema, so I thought maybe it was that, but she doesn't have any redness or bumps on her scalp. I don't think it's dandruff because thereare no flakes. We wash her hair every night in the shower with kids shampoo and use regular adult conditioner.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have a history of OCD, and I have lately developed an intense fear of contracting something (like diseases or colds). Recently my scalp has been quite itchy, and the back of my neck and ears are red, but I have no flaky dandruff. My father believes that it is an allergic reaction to something that I ate, but I eat the exact same thing every day, so I have ruled that out... I have jumped to the conclusion that I have lice.
Avatar f tn My scalp feels more dry than oily and the dandruff flakes are small and white and do remove from my head when i scratch - reassuring me they arent lice eggs.
Avatar f tn It's called dandruff, The white flakes are dead skin.
Avatar n tn back in March I got head lice. I had to use the Nix shampoo which is very harsh. I can't find any side effects that say dandruff or hair loss but it makes sense to me that a pesticide would cause these effects. I was cleared of head lice one week after I discovered and have been seeing a nurse once every two weeks since just because I'm paranoid because my head still itches. All she says I have now is dandruff.

Avatar f tn going on to where its like prickles of heat on my entire head that I swear is lice running a marathon. My friends older two boys didn't get it and neither did she and she shares a bed with the girl. If they didn't get it how the heck did I?!?! A lice expert told me that not everyone that comes in contact with it gets it. I can't handle being one of those people that has piles of bugs falling out of their hair. My gf gave me a hug and if I have it she has it :( She has eczema bad!
Avatar f tn t coming out like dandruff. I tried to pull them off and they were somewhat stuck to the hair shaft like a lice nit. I had four people check my hair, including my doctor, and no bugs were found. I never experienced itching either. Fast forward seven years, and I still notice them sometimes. No, I have not had head lice for seven years. I regularly get my hair done and my stylist would have noticed it 50 times by now. Plus, my husband would have had them for seven years too.
Avatar n tn How do I tell the difference between scabies, lice, bedbugs, tiny white worms, and dandruff flakes?
Avatar f tn I have constant dry scalp. It does not flake like Dandruff. I get sore spots all over especiallly along hair line. I had it bad a few years ago, then it got better. It just never cleared up. It hurts to even brush my hair. It has made my hair so dry that I cannot even style it anymore. It feels good after first washing it, but then it starts all over again. It itches too.
Avatar n tn My 8 year old has a severe itching scalp but no lice, dandruff or obvious scalp condition. I've used Head and Shoulders dry scalp care and the shampoo with coal tar but nothing helps. Could it be neurological or pyscological? Thanks.
Avatar n tn f you think you have lice, after you wash your hair, rinse it with a mixture of white vinegar and water (half and half). Lice do not like vinegar and will give up residence.
Avatar f tn I've always dealt with dandruff in the winter, but I can't tell if the little white things in my hair are flakes or nits. I did the lice treatment, but nothing showed up when my hair was combed out. I have painful slightly itchy bumps and pimples on my scalp. I'm not insanely itchy, but I know you don't have to be super itchy to have lice. I don't know what else it would be if it's not lice, maybe the treatment didn't work. If it's not lice what is it?
Avatar f tn It's not lice, it's not dandruff, tried listening to advices, they still are growing. My head becomes really itchy and I can't focus in school because of it! I also saw there's dried blood on some of them. It keeps popping out even when I just got out of the shower. Please help! Sorry for bad English. English is not my very first language, but I hope you can still understand what I'm saying.
Avatar f tn It itches him a lot. I know head lice is sometimes in school, but i have looked very good and see nothing of that nature. I only see some light, flaky dandruff in some parts. Pls help. thx.
Avatar f tn I use a tea tree shampoo everyday to prevent lice when I worked in childcare and because it helps with dandruff. I used olive oil lotion (in hair care aisle) and put it in all day under a shower cap. End of the day washed it out and had hubby comb my hair with a lice comb. I got it from my nieces when they stayed over one night in my first trimester.
Avatar n tn Hi, The best way to treat dandruff is to use a dandruff shampoo. Look for shampoos with ingredients such as zinc pyrithone, salicyclic acid, coal tar, selenium silfide, or ketoconazole. All of these ingredients have been shown to work on dandruff; to use the shampoo, apply it to your scalp and hair, rub vigorously, and allow it to sit for five minutes so that the ingredients can work before rinsing it out.
Avatar f tn The last few weeks my scalp his been itching something awful, it is centered around the crown. I don't have dandruff and dandruff shampoo makes it worse. I have taken to washing my hair once a week because it itches so badly. The itching is making my head hurt. Please help.

Avatar f tn Hi, Im not sure if I have posted in the right place but anyone's help would be greatly appreciated. For some time now, I have the urge almost constantly to run my fingers through my hair to find any loose dandruff particles that I would then pull out and roll in my fingers. I don't know why. It's soothing, yes, but I don't do it when I'm particularly stressed, I just do it when I'm comfortable.
