Common Questions and Answers about Dandruff in the winter

dandruff

Avatar m tn Sometimes, shampooing too often leads to dry skin which will result in flaking. This may happen even more in the winter months because of indoor dry air, depending upon where you live. You could try one of the many dandruff shampoos, but one with a moisturizer may be the best.
Avatar n tn In summer its mostly common that people doesnt have any complains regarding their dandruff but in winter yes cause when it comes about hair they need moisture and in winter we usualy dont wash our hair that often. Solution: Wash them and massage the scalp with olive oil leave it for the night and then wash then next day morning and then if you see any changes after a week .... then thats what it is ....
Avatar m tn I've always had issues with Dry Scalp and Dandruff, particularly during the winter. Over the past couple years, I've also developed some sort of scalp sores that when picked at tend to bleed. They seem to continually come back. I've tried a number of shampoos - Head and Shoulders, Nizoral, Aveda Pureformance, T/Gel, American Crew, etc. with varying results.
Avatar f tn when we are talking about the HIV virus symptoms then we are referring to the reaction of the body after the HIV virus is in the blood stream which will happen normally 2 weeks after the infection , Seborrheic Dermatitis can be related to HIV but not at such early stage .
Avatar n tn my thoughts exactly, Poke. I have a similar problem, more predominant in the winter. I talked with my stylist about it, and she gave me sample bottles of Nioxin. The original ones she gave me didn't do much, but when we switched to the formula for colored hair it worked great. Talk to you salon and see if they have some sample or smaller (hence, cheaper) bottles that you can try. As with all salon products, you're going to spend a little more, but hey...if it helps...it helps.
Avatar n tn Like two days ago i noticed two small things in the right side in the back of the neck. They are like one is 1 or 2mm wide and another one is like 4 or maybe five mm. Never noticed them before and noticed just scratching my neck because i got those white things all over my head, don't know the name.. it is something like d... Durf... Dfur... Something like that. So sometimes i am scratching my head when watchiing movie or something. In every place.
Avatar m tn Of course, a vet would likely know if they looked at it. But with the dandruff like description and the winter months where heaters run and humidity tends to be lower in the house, it seems as if dry skin is a possibility. You might try a humidifier in the area she spends most her time.
Avatar n tn About a month ago, I left some red spots on his back near the waist, which were resected. Also in the arms, which are dry and virtually disappeared. Others are still in the outskirts of the axillae and nipples, still red and sometimes I get itchy. They are more scaly and red when I shower with hot water. As I said before, these spots are red, sometimes cause itching, are scaly and look like "wrinkled".

Anything new in the house that you recall? Usually, winter is a season when many places become extremely dry. What are the humidity levels in your place? If your hands feel very dry, then your cat might be experiencing this as well. Check her for parasites, fleas, mites etc. Is she indoors or outdoors?
Avatar f tn I've always dealt with dandruff in the winter, but I can't tell if the little white things in my hair are flakes or nits. I did the lice treatment, but nothing showed up when my hair was combed out. I have painful slightly itchy bumps and pimples on my scalp. I'm not insanely itchy, but I know you don't have to be super itchy to have lice. I don't know what else it would be if it's not lice, maybe the treatment didn't work. If it's not lice what is it?
Avatar m tn Sometimes it can be due to fungal infection/ring worms they start out in spots of thick patches of flakes throughout the scalp then they end up uprooting the hair in the hair breaking it off until there is a bald spot. This is highly contagious and if someone in your house has it you should not be sharing pillow cases or sheets with them of the scalp. Medicated shampoos and creams are useful in such cases.
Avatar f tn You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium. But if your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur. If the symptoms persist, then it would be best to get it confirmed from a dermatologist. Eat a healthy diet.

I dont have any fungus / worms kind of things on my scalp but yes i do have dandruff and in winter its a lot of dandruff ..
Avatar m tn Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription). If your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur. If the symptoms persist please consult a trichologist for the confirmatory diagnosis and treatment.Antifungals may be needed.
20797909 tn?1510806713 Hi, names Max. I am seventeen years old and I have been suffering with extreme problems sleeping for.. 24 hours. Here's the catch, last winter, as in the winter of 2016-2017 for months was fighting with inability to sleep. I thought I got athlete's foot from the locker room because I always walked around bare foot like an idiot, logical conclusion. It wasn't, I tried every form of anti-fungal powder spray and lotion I could find and it only provided temporary relief.
Avatar n tn Over the past few months ive developed dandruff i think then my head started to itch and now i have 2 hard bumps on the back of my head close to my neck and in my hair. its really irritating me what should i do?
Avatar f tn When I was in 4th grade I started noticing dandruff in my bangs. I could see the dry skin there and growing up it was only in my bangs but over the years I noticed it going more over the top of my scalp. Sometimes it'd be worse and my hair would itch bad and I'd have dandruff and I thought it was maybe just in winter when it's more dry but about 2years ago when I was living in MS on the gulf (not dry area at all) it was horrible (winter and summer)!
Avatar m tn I have been suffering from pyrosis for the last 6 years. Some white dandruff on my scalp, and now it starts spreading in my ears. During winter it increases at very fast speed. I consulted 4-5 dermatologists and I also consulted many ayurvedic treatments, but still not working I don't know what to do if anyone can help.

675347 tn?1365460645 ie, her usual happy self. But every year, twice a year, in the summer, and in the winter, she sheds. This is just what she does, I have never considered this to be indicative of any allergy or ill-health, as she (generally) is fit and well. The shedding-thing ALWAYS happens right before she comes into season. Once the shedding stops, her season starts. Every year the same.
209987 tn?1451935465 I don't get dandruff....or at least on my scalp...I seem to only get it on my forehead and eyebrows. This morning it was so bad that it looked like I had been peeling after a bad sunburn. The flakes of skin were dropping off in huge pieces. I've been told to use moisturizers...which do nothing but cause a rash. Aloe-Vera burns my skin. Allergic to something in Noxzema...causes me to stop breathing. I have very sensitive skin as you can see.
Avatar n tn ve been using very hot water in the shower.......so my scalp has been a bit dryer than normal. Especially near the front by the hairline, its got a white flaky look to my scalp and I've also noticed a very pink look to the skin around the area which also has been flaky......... What's happening to me and what should I do? I tried tea tree oil on the flaky skin, but I don't think its helping much...... Will switching to a Selsun blue or dandruff shampoo help?
Avatar m tn ve been there for about 3yrs and sometimes they itch really bad in the winter and sometimes in the summer just recently i've had the same itching behind my knees and random itching on my thighs, legs and sometimes my buttocks could those random itchings be a form of eczema? how can i suppress it? and do you think a strict diet will prevent it from itching as bad? This discussion is related to Eczema.
