Common Questions and Answers about Dandruff in the eyebrows

dandruff

Avatar m tn Hi, since last spring I've been getting dandruff in my eyebrows. It's almost always in the left eyebrow. I went to see the doctor about this around May and he prescribed an alcohol based gel because he thought it was some kind of infection or fungus and that the gel would get rid of it. The gel just makes my skin ridiculously flaky where it wasn't flaky before so I only used it a few times and stopped. I've included some photos in case it might help...
Avatar n tn It is an autoimmune disease characterized by unpredictable, nonscarring hair loss of the eyelashes and eyebrows. In such cases, to promote growth of eyebrows, just eat a healthy protein rich diet and take some multivitamin supplements for some days. The most important nutrients are biotin, silica, magnesium, sulfur, zinc, and vitamin B6. There are many eyebrow growth products in the market, but their efficacy has not been scientifically proven.
Avatar m tn If it's the outer third of the eyebrow, you should get your thyroid checked. If you have flaking and scaling, like you have dandruff in your eyebrows, then it's probably something fungal. If it's not super red and inflamed, you could try applying some hydrocortisone cream to it. If it helps, it probably is some sort of organism causing irritation and the hair loss, and something like ketoconazole cream or even lotramin would be the thing to do.
Avatar f tn when we are talking about the HIV virus symptoms then we are referring to the reaction of the body after the HIV virus is in the blood stream which will happen normally 2 weeks after the infection , Seborrheic Dermatitis can be related to HIV but not at such early stage .
1738109 tn?1331412572 Psoriasis is a skin condition that causes you to itch and have dandruff. I have spalp psoriasis so its only in my hair and sones times my eyebrows. It can be aggravated by stress. Another kind is called plaque psoriasis. This is red flaky patches all over the body. I have a friend with that one. She's miserable when she gets an outbreak. Oh and it's not contagious but it can be genetic for either kind.
Avatar n tn It sounds like seborrheic dermatitis, which is an inflammatory version of dandruff. I have it in my eyebrows -- it's white and flaky, with no redness until recently, and it started off in one part of one eyebrow, and then it spread. Now recently it has spread to my entire eyebrow. I've tried a lot of things. Using Nizoral shampoo once a day seems to help a little. I also take the following supplements: evening primrose oil, multivitamins, cod liver oil, and sometimes, probiotics.
Avatar m tn Hello, The yellow waxy crusts on the scalp are due to dandruff and it can cause seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp and face. Use over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium. If the symptoms persist, then it would be best to get it confirmed from a dermatologist.Hope it helps. Hope it helps.Kind regards.
Avatar m tn I also began seeing my hairline recede from the front about 2 cm as well as the temples in the first month. I also noticed that sometimes when pulling my hair back, I would feel a bit of pain from what felt like individual hairs which never happened before. Dandruff and dry skin on the scalp also began showing up which was very rare for me. As or now, it feels and looks like I have lost about 50 % of hair volume mostly in the front as well as had my hairline recede at least within 2 months.
Avatar f tn I do have dandruff in my hair. I was diagnosed with Seborrheic Dermatitis by my dermatologist at the age of 21. Not knowing any better when I was younger I tried everything over the counter for acne, but I didn't have acne. I definitely do not have rosacea because I never got pustules. I have tried: Metrogel Finacea Desonate Nizoral Shampoo on my face head and shoulders on my face and Desonide lotion. the only thing that works is desonide lotion.
Avatar m tn I'd say I have a dandruff problem but that would imply that my itchy scalp is the only problem area. I get flaky skin on my arms, chest, eyebrows, and especially my legs. If someone so much as brushes against me it snows little white flakes everywhere. I've been to a dermatologist a couple of times but I've yet to find a medicated shampoo or moisturizer that even makes a dent.
Avatar f tn Now, I wear mascara maybe 3 times a week and use the best makeup remover I can. Yet, they continuously get thinner and thinner, with gaps now in between. Another problem that started following the back problems, surgery, and added meds (Lyrica, Vicodin, Celebrex, Flexeril) is that my scalp and eyebrows have also gotten worse. I now have very severe dandruff, with scabs on my scalp, and my hair has begun to thin--my eyebrows are nearly as bad as my lashes.

Avatar m tn Now i can visibly see hair falling out all over my scalp but the thing that worries me the most is the hair falling from my eyebrows. My scalp flakes a lot and it always produces these little hard keratinized bulbs when the hair falls our.Other symptoms include eyelash fall, styes on my eyes, small pimples on my face, changes in my skin, itchy forehad, bleeding scalp, and beaus lines on my nails, along with minor pitting. My scalp is extremely itchy as well.
Avatar m tn I took another allergy pill last night, and this morning the bumps are getting a little smaller. The dandruff is with me since I was little. That's not a news for me. I never really go to a doctor for medication for that, but I do try some dandruff shampoo to reduce the dandruff. Some of them work, but after a while the dandruff will come back. It's really annoying but sometimes it's okay, no dandruff at all, but sometimes gets alot. I think season changes is one of the reasons.
Avatar n tn Like two days ago i noticed two small things in the right side in the back of the neck. They are like one is 1 or 2mm wide and another one is like 4 or maybe five mm. Avatar n tn Just joined so forgive me if Im doing this wrong. I have what sounds like the same thing you are describing. I went to a clinic the other day because I just couldnt stand it another day & couldnt get in to see my regular dr that fast. The dr. at the clinic diagnosed it as scabies. She gave me some cream medicine to put all over my body from head to feet.(They say mostly only infants get it on their heads but my scalp was itchy too).
Avatar n tn Seborrheic dermatitis affects not only your scalp but also other areas rich in oil glands, such as your eyebrows, the sides of your nose and the backs of your ears, your breastbone, your groin area, and sometimes your armpits. Dandruff responds well to the use of medicated or anti-fungal (anti-yeast) shampoos, and there is a wide variety available from pharmacies.
Avatar f tn Steroid injections are commonly used in sites where there are small areas of hair loss on the head or in the eyebrows. But other treatment methods can also be sued and these include minoxidil, elocom ointment (steroid cream), irritants (anthralin or topical coal tar) and topical immunotherapy which can be used alone or in combination. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.

Avatar m tn Finally, will the lost hairs grow back, because the hair loss is beginning to make my eyebrows look asymmetrical. I'm 21 year old male, if that's relevant. Thanks for the help.
Avatar n tn I find it hard to believe hyperhidrosis is the cause of salty eyebrows. I'm 43, female, and have had salty eyebrows for years now. The doctor has never heard of it and assumed it may be some form of seborrhea. I tried to explain: it's not skin flakes. It is SALT CRYSTALS! I've taken photos with my digital camera to show how a tiny "o" will form just below the eyebrow and the salt crystals form in the eyebrows. I do not sweat much and I drink a lot of water daily.
Avatar n tn I have a skin rash all thoughout my scalp and when I rub my scalp I cover the desk with Dandruff. I also have a butterfly rash across my face which comes and goes on a daily basis. This rash extends to my eyebrows and is characterised by flaky skin. I have been using oroxine for two years but when I take it seems to flair up my face and when I ease off it my scalp flairs up. The rash doesn not itch. I am in a quandry. Dont get me wrong though I am still a very handsome fella.
Avatar m tn ll get a random itch on my eyebrows or after a shower there will be this white pasty liquid around my eyebrows . which is the dandruff and sebum combination. I would ask a derm about the ketacanozole shampoo it did wonders for me. Good luck.
