Common Questions and Answers about Dandruff and red bumps on scalp

dandruff

Avatar f tn i have red bumps all over my scalp and it has been there for about 2 years. i have a habit of scratching my head even if it is not itchy. whenever i slip my fingers onto my scalp i kind of feel a rough tiny tiny thing and i will pluck it or just scratch it of. it would always be a very tiny piece of dead skin and sometimes it would be a tiny white solid really tiny. i did not lose hair or feel itchy but im scared.
Avatar m tn Also I get like red bumps on the hairline of my scalp and it spreads all through out my scalp. Even around my ears where my sideburns are. Its embarrassing because it gives me a ridiculous amount of dandruff. I use selsun blue, but it doesn't do anything. I'm thinking it might be dermatitis. What alergy medicine should I take for this? Any news or help on this would be great.
Avatar n tn i am 21 yr old boy, in the center-back of my scalp there are small non itchy white bumps, seems like layers of dandruff , when i harshly comb at tht part then a lot of dandruff gets created, i use zpto and ketoconazole shampoo but these non itchy bumps remain.
Avatar f tn I have no scaling or dandruff symptoms, just BURNING, red and EXTREMELY INTENSE itchy scalp. I was given some sort of steroid (can't remember the name of it) that is a foam consistency (like moose). She seemed more concerned about my knees, which turned out to be Granuloma Annulare. I have severe allergies to all trees and grass. Not sure if that would cause the scalp issues though. The scalp issues started around Thanksgiving or Christmas (I think).
Avatar f tn You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription). If your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur.
Avatar n tn t mean it in the sense of a shampoo that takes away the oils from your scalp. It is a medicated one, and does work for mild to medium dandruff. It needs to be used twice a week and usually does the job pretty well. Also, don't oil your hair and scalp for more than 2 hours, especially if your scalp sweats after being oiled.
Avatar f tn They look like little freckles, but they're blood red and they're the most noticeable on my stomach, but also on my boobs. And they're soooo dang itchy.
Avatar m tn They have no pus or anything like that just a red bump and when I scratch on it some skin peels off. I think it may be scalp folliculitis. Can someone please help me?? I really don't want to be balding at such an early age!
Avatar n tn Over the past few months ive developed dandruff i think then my head started to itch and now i have 2 hard bumps on the back of my head close to my neck and in my hair. its really irritating me what should i do?
Avatar n tn I have frequently gotten these bumps on my head that are extremely hard. They seem to be made out of dandruff or built up dead skin cells, but I use a specialized shampoo that keeps my scalp moisturized since I've had dandruff issues before. The bumps leak a clear fluid when I scratch them off, and, as expected of an open "wound", sting when in contact with anything external.
Avatar f tn But my concern is about the pus-filled bumps on the back and sides of his scalp. He has had them for a long time, he went and seen a doctor about them and the doctor just told him that it's like athlete's feet and to put some fungus ointment on them. When my fiancee told me what the doctor had said I was like "That don't sound right." When I use my blackhead tool to poke the bumps, this whitish yellowish pus substance comes out and it smells bad. What could this be?
Avatar f tn I tried everything (before going to the dermatologist) to get rid of it but I had bad itching, flaking, peeling, and even a little bleeding on my scalp. There are a few things to treat it, one of which is a foam with some kind of steroid in it but it was very expensive since my insurance didn't cover it (like $200-300). I used it once for about a month but then it came back a few months later so I decided to see a dermatologist to see what else was out there.
Avatar m tn I have a problem with my scalp which I have been to my doctor about twice but without success. I regularly get spots (like face spots) on my scalp which can be puss filled or just red aswell as some itching and alot of flaking. I have no idea what is causing it however the symptoms appear to be at their worst after my hair has just been washed and dried. The spots and flaking then become a real problem.
Avatar f tn I've always dealt with dandruff in the winter, but I can't tell if the little white things in my hair are flakes or nits. I did the lice treatment, but nothing showed up when my hair was combed out. I have painful slightly itchy bumps and pimples on my scalp. I'm not insanely itchy, but I know you don't have to be super itchy to have lice. I don't know what else it would be if it's not lice, maybe the treatment didn't work. If it's not lice what is it?
Avatar f tn It's probably just a dry scalp. Try that stuff they use on babies for a dry scalp. I can't remember what it's called, maybe craddle cap or something. You can ask the pharmacist.
Avatar n tn Oral antihistamine medications would help if the lesions are itchy. Also check out dandruff in your scalp as dandruff falling on skin may block the oil glands and cause folliculitis and acne. If the symptoms persist then pls consult a dermatologist. Hope it helps .Take care and pls do keep us posted in case you have any additional queries.Kind regards.
Avatar n tn I have Rosesa. Dr. said I also have dandruff on my scalp and my face & excemea on face & scalp [ sorry, bad speller] which its not visable to the eye [ didnt know before that was possible]... which all 3 cause extreme itching on my face and scalp. Dr. said it causes something that starts with a "S" to build up on scalp.. almost like "craddle cap" but NOT. My hair brakes off & sheds out really bad when these 3 flair up...

Avatar m tn This is the 3rd summer in a row that I have been having problems with my scalp. I have been kind of keeping track and every year, for the last 3 years, I have gotten an itchy scalp that feels a lot like a normal dry scalp in the month of July and lasts until about March the next year. It is set off by me itching it or the scalp getting irritated by any kind of touch (ie hood, hat, someone else touches it) There is no redness or allergen like bumps of any kind.
Avatar n tn In my first e-mail, I listed that I had no flakes. I have red bumps on my scalp in that one area (the scalp behind the lower part of my right ear and down to the end of my hairline just on my right side) and on my right underarm. So I'm wondering how can it be seborrheic dermatitis? Isn't there something else that it might be?
Avatar f tn were coming off my scalp during this process and going into hair follicles to create the red bumps and if i covered up or exfoliated right afterward i rarely developed the bumps. My hair is also clumping or tufting making the surrounding areas look sparse. I have mult hairs coming out of one follicle and a clear cylindrical covering (almost like plastic!) covering and binding the tufts closest to scalp. Well thats some of it anyways.
Avatar f tn Hi ihave a burning scalp and itchy, i dont have dandruff, but i have the oddpimples keep coming up, i had this condition once before in 2008 and after about 3 weeks it settled down, but it doesnt seem to be settleing this time,Selson shampoo helped last time but having no effect this time, would be grateful if you can help
Avatar m tn but i found these red sores on my scalp, what do you think it is? Seborrhoeic Dermatitis ? Keep in mind hair loss is only at top of scalp around red spots but they are all over, some new some faded, help please, I can't go bald at 22. The sores are itchy too, but they look like very tiny red dots.
Avatar n tn I have gone to the dermatologist and been told it just a dry spot and not fungal and given some moisturizers and cortisone, but did not seem to help much. I have even tried ketaconazole, it reduces the flaking, but the redness is still there. The hair in the area of the rash is not falling out. Thanks for any help or suggestion regarding this.
