Avatar f tn Thanks for the info! I have tried some of the shampoos with salicylic acid or coal tar - all it did was make my scalp worse- sort of firery sore and super itchy. that's why I think its dry scalp and not dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis - the symptoms just don't fit. my hair and scalp are dry, not greasy - even if i go 3 days between shampoos my hair is not greasy. the flakes are small and white and not oily.
Avatar f tn Just a question, is it dandruff (oily hair) or dry scalp (no moisture). I'd also like to add that head and shoulders is one of the worst shampoos you can use because of the wax that coats your hair. Maybe try cutting back on shampoos each week and use a moisturizing conditioner if your hair is excessively oily. You can tell its dandruff or dry scalp by the colour and if there is a smell present or not. Dandruff is yellowish and gives off an odour.

Avatar f tn I have had a flaky dry yet oily scalp for a little over a year now and have been under alot of stress lately. Three days ago I noticed small spots on my scalp that look like scabs. I have tried head and shoulders, tyea tree oil shampoos, vinigar and even peroxide and nothing has helped the flakes and what not. Now I am a suspicious about the scabs. Please help!
Avatar f tn m going off of what I vaguely remember lol. There are 3 causes for dandruff dry scalp, oily scalp, and a fungus. The condition of your scalp is what is going to tell u which treatment to use. One remedy is ad easy as shampooing everyday and using less conditioner on your scalp. You should also try using a clarifying shampoo and a moisturizing conditioner.
Avatar n tn My hair, which is usually normal and healthy, has become oily and full of dandruff within the past 24 hours! My hair became very oily with my daughter for the first few weeks, but I did not have dandruff. Has anyone else had this problem? Any shampoo suggestions that can take care of both of these problems?
Avatar f tn You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription). If your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur.
876805 tn?1240185863 s pretty much for scalp issues such as oily scalp, dry scalp dandruff, psoriasis..) and then this conditioner called american classic tea tree conditioner.. it's absolutely amazing, the first time i used it i could FEEL the difference, it was like such a relief to my scalp. The first one whatever is in it soothes my scalp and then the tea tree oil does something else that helps, no idea what but it feels so much better. Hope that helps a little bit!!

2078979 tn?1332206668 Ive and what I thought was dadruff most of my life but I found out that dandruff is actually a scalp condition that is caused by a natural bacteria that grows on ur scalp and u can use oils like tea tree, and eucaliptus to kill it and calm/get rid of dadruff. But u could just have dry scalp which is different. Try drinking more water (even tho we all have to pee more we still need drink lots...
Avatar f tn I really wish i knew what was wrong with my scalp - ill accept anything as long as it isnt lice - perhaps the treatment just wont work? My scalp feels more dry than oily and the dandruff flakes are small and white and do remove from my head when i scratch - reassuring me they arent lice eggs.

Avatar f tn I'm not sure if this is the right forum to be in, but my issue is w dandruff. I have dry scalp and I'm not to sure what to do about it. I'm African American and I only get my hair washed when I go to the salon so that's 2 times outta the month. In btwn my salon visits I don't p ut any grease or oil on my scalp bc I hate the way it makes my hair feel heavy. However, my scalp is really dry...very flaky and if u look at it...it seems like my scalp is scaled over!
Avatar n tn Try using t gel by neutrogena, that does sound like psorosis. T gel is very helpful, and it's not expensive I use it because I get acne on my scalp from using hair spray And it works wonders even though it is made for psorosis. It's main ingredient is coal tar so it doesn't smell pleasant but it's worth a try. Also if you had lice you'd see it crawling.

Avatar f tn It is supposed to be good both for the oily scalp as well dandruff if any. A good massage of the scalp is also helpful as it ensures an increased blood supply of the scalp and also takes away the oils of the scalp towards the hair. It makes sense to avoid the use of conditioner as it also tends to make the scalp oily. when shampooing the hair, switch from warm water to cool water after you've thoroughly rinsed away the shampoo.
