dandruff

Avatar_n_tn ) He's lost the 3 extra pounds he was carrying and his muscle tone looks wonderful. and as I said, his coat actually looks really nice and shiny. But he still has dandruff, and some days it's only a few flakes, but some days it's really, really bad! He NEVER scratches. I'm home with him all day, and he doesn't scratch or bite at himself or seem the least bit uncomfortable, and his energy levels seem normal as well. His skin doesn't seem dry, which seems weird.
Avatar_f_tn There is hard food available to him all day and night, the good stuff. In the morning and evening I put out 2 small cans of the good wet cat food (the 2 cans are for our 4 cats). We have a fountain for him to drink from and use only bottled water. I'm worried why he is losing weight. He also has (during the winter months due to the dry electric heat I have) bad dandruff which is mainly on his rear back. While cleaning himself he tends to pull out (with his teeth) little clumps of hair.
Avatar_f_tn I bought Nizoral shampoo and Nioxin Follicle Booster, but haven't used them yet because my scalp is very itchy and I'm afraid that these products might be irritants. Any suggestions would be appreciated enormously.
Avatar_n_tn I don't want to take benadryl because my mouth can't get any drier than it already is, and I'm drinking about 100 ounces of water a day. I think that you, Bug and I and some others are just very sensitive to the Ribavirin. I hope your itching slacks off after a while...
Avatar_n_tn This morning I woke up and I was combing my hair and noticed a hard lump behind my ear where the skull meets the back of the ear. It is not so hard that I cannot push it down, but very tender. I have not been sick, I do not have any infection that I know of, what could be the cause of this? I noticed the people who posted said either swollen lymph node or cyst, but I have not been sick, and can a cyst just pop up over night? Please help!!
Avatar_n_tn I've had this on my eyebrow and on my side. They are very hard and scratchy and quite painful until tweezed out. I'm waiting to see if another grows so that I can take it to my doctor. I was too disgusted to keep the other two!
Avatar_n_tn I have lived with my dad for the past 4 years and we have hard water, the building we live in, is very old and there is no shower in our bathroom, so we have to take baths. Over the past year I've noticed that I'm getting more and more "dry" spots or rashes where skin is flaking off, and I have severe dandruff Big flakes, and my ears are covered in a film everyday I wake up. I'm horrible because I pick at my ears and I'm able to peel large chuncks off. I'm lost as to what it is.
Avatar_m_tn I also treated it as if it was caused by lice; constantly washing my clothes and sheets in hot water, showering twice a day, using the oil, keeping the room vacuumed, etc. (Don't know if it makes a difference, but I threw away a bunch of boxes that had carpet beetle larvae that I found trying to figure out what was going on. We've also had a major lady bug problem that we had to take care of.) Up until recently, I've been able to sleep fine with no crawling and minimal itching.
Avatar_m_tn It can also leave the skin dry and itchy, and leave hair dry, brittle, and prone to dandruff. Numerous scientific studies report that chlorinated water is a skin irritant and can be associated with rashes like eczema. Combined with volatile organic chemicals, it causes permanent respiratory problems. On the other hand, a dermatological problem resulting in a red, bumpy, itchy rash, which looks like measles is caused by P.
Avatar_n_tn Hello, Hormonal imbalance is an important internal cause of dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription).
Avatar_n_tn Anyway, because the teeth extraction was hard, the surgeon accidently damaged my teeth next to it, which made a crack, and hard to reach with brush etc... I also sometimes clench my teeth at night, and so one night i woke up from a crack in my mouth and pain. A part of my teeth broke off. Avatar_f_tn have you tried getting hot water(to your liking) and adding three drops of organic tree oil and then putting it in the areas then after take a shower in hot water and with a pumbis stone gently scrub?
Avatar_m_tn Any ideas on what else I could/should do? It's really embarrassing to be itchy, and hard not having sex during this time too. I can post some pics if seeing the current symptoms would help at all. Thanks.
Avatar_m_tn Anything that has touched the scalp is infected--that inculdes furniture, all her hair flying around, dandruff whreever it setteled, and most importantly her wig which I doubt can be washed in boiling hot water and otherwise will keep reinfecting. Any disinfecting ideas? Any non-toxic-treatment options? What can I do in case I've got it--it's hard to check a head that has so much hair on it ?
Avatar_n_tn 2-3 hours later my scalp is all red/pink and hard flakes begin to buildup on the scalp at the roots. and this goes on everyday...... basically same thing over and over. i also get the redness in my eyebrows and some flaking from time to time, and they have thinned out diffusely aswell. My scalp is sometimes itchy/tingly and i get spots on it at times aswell.
Avatar_n_tn i should of said, if you use tea tree oil, do not use it 100% straight, it will dry the skin out and bring back your dandruff and possibly make it even more itchy. add a small amount to a hair conditioner or moisturizer cream, up to 10 - 20% as it doesn't always mix well either.
Avatar_f_tn I shower daily with Hibiclens as a body wash, and a clinical strength dandruff shampoo. At night, I wash my hair with Betadine. All this helps, and I have had some days when people can actually stand near me without itching. However, every 3-5 days, I have a bad day when everyone I stand near for more than a few seconds is likely to start scratching their head. Since this includes complete strangers, I do not think it has anything to do with expectations. I hope that someone finds a cure!
Avatar_n_tn not being able to swim in hotel pools, public pools, the lake, the beach as I cannot wear wigs inside the water and there are always people around that could see me bold. and no, going without a wig ist no option for me. Losing my hair again does not fit into the Doxycyclin theory. However, the way I am losing it etc. has never fit into any alopecia areata, totalis, universalis or whatever pattern, too.
Avatar_m_tn My doctor finally listened to me I told him look this is not a sunburn (my neck and chest) would get really red and I would have hard time breathing. I had been complaining for a long time. So he treated with ivermectin 4 xs and metronizadole. which helped tremendously all our symptoms eyes nose breathing got so much better,....but again did not irradicate entirely, he sent me to a dermatologists because my doc doesn't know what else to do.
1475196_tn?1296309865 My ringing in my ear is constantly high pitched. Occasionally a low pitch ring will pop in every once in a while and that one pulsates! It's kinda hard to explain. The ringing definitely gets worse when I first get out of bed in the morning or after I've been sitting for a long time and I stand up. I can hear the TV but if you ask me the words to a song then forget it. I can't understand what they're saying with all that stuff in the background.
Avatar_f_tn Tinea versicolor is a fungul infection that can be treated with selsun blue or other dandruff shampoos (putting it on infected areas and letting it sit for 10-30 minutes washing it off every day for something like a week or two). But for the people who just can't get rid of it -- or it comes back chronically... changing your diet will help a huge amount, but takes way more work and dedication. When it is important/extreme enough, consider going on a cleanse.
Avatar_n_tn I also take Colace daily and stay on a high fiber diet and drink a LOT of water. I hope this helps a little - I didn't realize so many others are suffering from similar issues. best of luck to all of you.
Avatar_f_tn To give myself a boost with alkaline, I am taking 2 teaspoons of baking soda in a half cup of warmed water and mixing it until it's clear and then adding 1 teaspoon of Black Back-strap Molasses and stirring until well blended, then I drink this twice a day. In the last couple weeks, my pH Balance has come up to 7.5 and I am continuing the baking soda and molasses in a half cup of water twice a day. The brown spots all over my body, mostly on my back, stomach, belt-line and arm pits.
256220_tn?1210939062 The skin shedding and 'dandruff' decrease. Then 2 days later the itching starts creeping back and the horror - The Horror! - of a new cycle of severe rash, pain, inflamed neck, swollen face, irritability and insomnia. New red spots spread to places of my body where I didn't have them the last time (and never during Tx). By day 5 without Lidex, the situation gets so bad that I can't sleep at all and I feel like I have 1000 needles in the back of my neck.
Avatar_f_tn Well after I had tried vasleline on it after bathing and after a week it hadn't really improved much, so I decided to stop using it and only wash my face with cool water and made sure I didn't get it wet in the shower. (I like warm showers) So two days on and it is still scaly but the redness has almost completely gone away. I hope it gets better. I am glad yours went away! When you get back from the derm please tell me what he said about it.
Avatar_n_tn Today she seems very week and is breathing hard. She is having a hard time going up and down the stairs and is just staring into space. I took her to the vet a few days ago and he said to try to feed her wet food and to wait another week. I am going to call tomorrow since it is only getting worse. She ate the wet food for one setting and now wont even look at it. I made her a steak last night and she did eat that but I am not sure if it didn't shock her system.
344397_tn?1235580828 Mine's kind of the opposite. I've started having a TON of dandruff. and my skin is really dry other places, too. Maybe I need to drink more water.
496771_tn?1209698358 My hair line is extremely swollen and painful and the glands behind my ears are as well. They are sore to the touch and honestly kind of lumpy! -- am I in any danger? Will this just go away? Should I be worried? It's been about 48 hours since I dyed my hair. Thanks!
Avatar_f_tn I tense up all muscles in shoulder and neck for about 5 seconds as hard as i can then slowly relax them which relaxes me enough to try to calm down. This also works well if finding it hard to sleep, tense each individual muscle in turn from head to toe and concentrate as u relax your muslces about relaxing them as far as you can, it really puts your mind off the problem. 2.
