All of these ingredients have been shown to work on dandruff; to use the shampoo, apply it to your scalp and hair, rub vigorously, and allow it to sit for five minutes so that the ingredients can work before rinsing it out. Dandruff shampoo should be used every few days, and you may need to try several shampoos before you find one which works.
Hi, Dandruff (also called Pityriasis capitis) is due to the excessive shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp. As it is normal for skin cells to die and flake off, a small amount of flaking is normal and in fact quite common. For people with dandruff, skin cells may mature and be shed in 2 - 7 days, as opposed to around a month in people without dandruff.
But if you want to try OTC products which claim to be beneficial to hair then you can try it like Neem Hair Gel which is used as a hair conditioner and promoting hair growth, keeping the scalp clean and free from dandruff. ref:http://www.neem-products.com/neem-gel.
Is there a connection btwn having dandruff and hair loss? I am a 33 y/o female. For the past several months I have been battling with dandruff. It's all over the scalp and there is intense itching. Nothing I do helps. I've also noticed that my hair is falling out in clumps when I wash it and/or comb it out. I am not pregnant, my period is regular and I have a pretty healthy diet. I even went to my Dr at which point blood was drawn for testing but everything came back negative.
How is the hair falling off? In patches, at your part, thinning?
Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! Iron deficiency is the commonest cause of hair loss. Hair loss can also be due to dandruff, dermatitis, shampoos, oils, soaps, dust and dirt etc. Thyroid disorders and diabetes too could be a cause. Insomnia, stress and anxiety along with poor diet and excess of caffeine too can be the cause.
Now the right side of my hair has lost it sheen, thickness and is brittle and falls at the slightest disturbance. Along with the first outbreak also came excessively itchy eyes which of course became infected. Also there was a great deal of flaking in the scalp, much like dandruff, but worse. Talking to doctors has not helped. They don't seem to know what's going on.

I think that once it gets in our system enough to start losing hair, it takes awhile to stop and start new hair growth. I did 16 shots so my hair had already been falling out since week 12. Maybe some of the hair follicles were dying before I stopped and just continue dying off. I don't know! It will stop eventually. I hope! I kind of like my thin hair, it's easier to manage! I had way too much to begin with so this hasn't been much of a burden yet.
Hi guys, For the past 3 months I've been noticing that my hair has been falling off at a fast rate. If i brush my hand through it 4-5 strands fall off each time. When i shampoo it, 30-40 strands come off in my hands. I have very thick hair, so its currently hard to tell if there are any bald spots. I went to see my doctor, and he brushed it off by saying that i am stressd, which i am not...so i dont know what to do now. But is this how balding starts? Am i going bald?

I got some kind of dandruff like Seborrhoeic dematitis and lots of them.My hair become dry and my scalp are itchy each time the weather is hot and when i'm sweating. There are also pimples like on the scalp.I've tried using SELSUN hair shampoo medicated for dandruff treatment but my hair got even drier than before but the itchiness subsides a little. The only problem is i want the dandruff to disappear.Sometimes it got so itchy that i scratch until the scalp sore and bleeds.
however, there are also these hard things at the base of my eyebrow hairs(they look like hardened sebum) that protrude above the skin and encircle the entire bottom of the hair (I mean the entire end of the hair that is supposed to be in my skin is covered). These make my hair fall out VERY easily with the plug type thing attached, and the previous times something like this has happened, the hairs that fell out never grew back.
Instead of using minoxidil if I use another way to clear the dandruff will it reduce hair fall and itching?
I think I used shampoo when I showered -- partly because I had a little hair left and partly because I didn't want to have "dandruff." It's painful to lose your hair, but keep in mind that it will come back. Mine was curly for awhile, but it's back to normal now.
my scalp burns and hurts it flakes and somestimes the flakes harden to my scalp my hair stopped growing and has been falling out over the last year
Hello, Causes of hair fall could be like nutrients and proteins deficiency in the hair cells, emotional or physical stress, hormonal imbalances, dandruff, and serious illness like telogen effluvium, infectious disease and Alopecia areata. If there is underlying disease or nutritional deficiency .Give your diet an overhaul if you're lacking vital nutrients for growth and switch to foods for healthy hair.
Hi Very recently i have experienced heavy hair loss and it got so thin. I used to have good volume of hair. 6 to 7 months ago i had severe sinusitis for a month. I took anti biotics. I didnt have proper food during that time. Since 3 to 4 months i have been experiencing hair fall. I saw a dermatologist 2 months ago, he said i going thru male pattern baldness, and is the reason why i see thinning happening more on the crown. He asked me to start using Propecia, i am taking them since then.
I stopped taking Doxycycline 1 week ago now and am really hoping that my hair will stop falling out in clumps now and that it will regrow. I'm female with long hair way past my shoulder and am having about 3 inches cut off my hair tonight to try and help it look thicker again. The effect of this on your confidence can be absolutely devastating. Incidentally, I am not stressed, do not smoke or drink alcohol. I eat a very health diet and exercise 2-3 times a week and I'm only 30 years old.
Please consult a hematologist if iron deficiency is detected. Hair loss can also be due to dandruff, dermatitis, shampoos, oils, soaps, dust and dirt etc. Thyroid disorders and diabetes too could be a cause. Insomnia, stress and anxiety along with poor diet and excess of caffeine too can be the cause. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
she examined my hair, pulled on it and noticed it is falling out, from the root. She asked about changes in my stress, and ordered blood work to check for my iron and my thyroid. She also prescribed a topical solution to rub on my scalp every night for two weeks. Since then I have stopped taking the valtrex. My boyfriend tested negative for it. What is the likelyhood he will get it with me being off valtrex. I am on birth control, so we do not use any condoms.
i used to have thick soft healthy hair before ,but after using gel i got a dry hair ,if i don't wash my hair every day it starts falling .
Treatment consists of medications like Minoxidil, surgical approach(hair transplantation) and improvement in diet. My sincere advice is to consult a trichologist and get this possibility ruled out. In the meantime take care of your diet and eat a healthy nutritious diet. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
My hair was not falling out in clumps, but it definitely was falling out more in the shower and when I would brush my hair. I went to the docs and he said "no way" to what I was claiming. I have some blood tests tomorrow, but I don't expect anything to be out of the ordinary. I've been off the stuff for a month, but I'm still experiencing the hair loss. NO BUENO! Has anyone's hair started to grow back yet?
I am 24 years old female. I have this problem of falling my eyebrows and hairs since 2 years. I am really concerned and worried about my conditions. I will appreciate if some one can help me to treat this problem. There is lot of white dandruff flakes on my eyebrows and scalp.
