Avatar n tn Sometimes an allergy to dairy products, nuts and chocolates may cause dandruff, in which case you should avoid them for about eight weeks to be able to access its effect. Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help.

The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription). If your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur.
Avatar n tn All of these ingredients have been shown to work on dandruff; to use the shampoo, apply it to your scalp and hair, rub vigorously, and allow it to sit for five minutes so that the ingredients can work before rinsing it out. Dandruff shampoo should be used every few days, and you may need to try several shampoos before you find one which works.
Avatar n tn she also has a problem dandruff and her hair also gets oily. her hair is almost to her waistline and she wont allow anyone, except for me, to cut it.
Avatar f tn Oils with camphor and similar products that control itching are available. Otherwise, it can also be due to dandruff. This can be treated by shampoos and tablets under supervision of a skin specialist. Nerve compression in the upper cervical vertebra too can be the cause. Take care!
Avatar f tn my front hairline and on the top/crown only. My scalp in these areas becomes: very oily, appears pink in color and itches uncontrollably at times. The hair that falls out is always from these areas as well and contain a small sebum plug on the hair follicle. Other times where the area itches I find yellowish sebum plugs right where it itches. I also have several rud bumps on my scalp in this same area as well. What is going on and how do I stop it?
Avatar f tn Seborrheic dermatitis is a very common condition, it can be on scalp, face, ears. It's treated with anti dandruff shampoos and topical steroids for the itching. I would try some hydrocortisone cream and see if that helps, if so then go to your doctor toget a Rx for a maintenance medication.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have info on hair dyes while on tx? I dye my hair every month and i'm afraid to dye it with my regular product. Should I go organic?
Avatar f tn I'm 25 weeks and I've noticed that I have very bad dandruff. I hate it and it really bothers me. Has this happened to anyone else and if so what helped?
Avatar f tn I recently shaved my head, I do this once every two months and I notice some round red patches that were not there before. They are completely flat, I had no hair loss in the areas and they are not itchy at all. The patches began hurting after I shaved my head. I am thinking tinea capitis but that's just a guess. The only flaking I had was general dandruff I've always had and treated with anti dandruff shampoo, this red spot is new.
Avatar f tn You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium. But if your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur. If the symptoms persist, then it would be best to get it confirmed from a dermatologist. Eat a healthy diet.
Avatar m tn For almost a year now around my scalp has been feeling gummy and greasy. I don't dye my hair, or take medication. I eat healthy and work out often. I asked my dermotolgist he did not know. I have tried numerous shampoo's. Sulfate free ect. Washing my hair with Listerine. Nothing seems to do the trick. I tried putting color in it, and cutting it and that didn't help. I AM SO FRUSTRATED and desperate! Please let me know any solutions to fix it for once and for all!!! Please!!!!
Avatar n tn I have frequently gotten these bumps on my head that are extremely hard. They seem to be made out of dandruff or built up dead skin cells, but I use a specialized shampoo that keeps my scalp moisturized since I've had dandruff issues before. The bumps leak a clear fluid when I scratch them off, and, as expected of an open "wound", sting when in contact with anything external.
Avatar n tn s cheap and awesome), use Moroccanoil on my hair and my hairline, and the rest has nothing to do with my scalp, haha. :) As long as I keep my fingers out of my hair and off my scalp, I'm good. My scalp is pretty close to fully healed right now and no dandruff. I'd put some oil on your scalp at night, go back to the doctor, a dermatologist if you can, and see if they can get to the bottom of it. What are the sores like? Do you scratch or pick at your scalp often?
1351676 tn?1301339436 Dandruff is common in cats of many coat colors, but very noticeable in black cats. My now deceased black longhair had dandruff at times, and I treated that with brushing/combing, which he was thrilled with, and a high-quality diet, which he was less thrilled with. A bit of flax oil on his food seemed to help, as did a "pet shampoo spray" I found in a pet store, which moisturized his fur and skin without the hassle of giving him a bath.
