Cytomel vs levoxyl

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel vs levoxyl

cytomel

280485 tn?1249013844 -0 My question is: I was on 137mcg Levothyroxine and 25mcg Cytomel. He perscribed 175 mcg Synthroid, and of course, I am to discontinue the Cytomel. Are the two meds Levo and Synthroid, similar as far as how much you need? Or should I anticipate a big difference in how I feel tomorrow and the next few days? And, I guess I'm wondering if this is going to take weeks to ramp up and just a wild a#@! guess that will need several "tweekings"?
Avatar n tn The new endo said (to cut it short) sometimes people do better on Synthroid vs. Levoxyl so she wanted to try me on it for 2mths. I have been on various dosage of Levoxyl, and either my levels would be too high or too low, and I would feel terrible. My question is, is there really a difference between the two. She changed the brand but the dosage is the same. My other endo was changing me every 4 - 6 weeks, and she feels maybe my body had not adjusted to the dosage in that period of time.
280485 tn?1249013844 I just recently went back onto Cytomel in addition to my Levoxyl (dosage which was naturally lowered at the same time). And I am, (as duly noted by the hour of this posting) having trouble sleeping yet again... Even though we cut the amount of Cytomel this time around... I'm sure there's a formula of this combo that won't keep me up when I should be sleeping, but right now I'm not experiencing it.
Avatar f tn Your thyroid levels were fine and if you added the cytomel to the 100mcg of levoxyl, the TSH will likely be too low (ie, too much medication) and if you stay on cytomel, the levoxyl dose would need to be changed most likely. The weight gain is not likely due to thyroid.
1129774 tn?1279831762 30 and eat breakfast at 7:00. I talked to the pharmacist and she said I can take the cytomel whenever. With breakfast I take all my vitamins Multi, calicum, mag,. probiotic, vit. d, and cranberry. Can I take both at 5:30 in the morning? Or should I wait until after breakfast. I decided to only start with one a day and see how I do. I am afraid of getting to much. Thanks.
Avatar f tn s not producing enough thyroid, t4, which im assuming is the case due to why the doctors put you on the levoxyl and cytomel in the first place. i would think you would over a period of a few weeks begin to slide into a hypothyroid state. and start experiencing the symptoms of hypothyroidism. such as . fatigue muscle aches, pains, joint pain, brain fog . eyes puffiness, possible hair falling out, anxiety, and on and on. if you think its too much get retested.
Avatar f tn I know you would recommend it. I just felt so awful and depressed yesterday that I remembered I had Cytomel in my drawer. Last year my previous doctor prescribed 75mcg of levothyroxine and 5 mcg of Cytomel. The combination made my palpitations worse so he put me back on 30 mg of Armour saying that was my ideal dose. After this point we moved to CO. I kept both meds since then just in case a new doctor wanted to see any previous meds.
Avatar f tn I began having these symptoms last Friday (3/18/2011) I am only taking half of my Levoxyl the next two days and completely stopping the cytomel until I can speak with my Endo on Monday. I can't even explain how awful ive been feeling. This fluttering in my chest is just horrible. I cannot believe that my levels dropped from 1.94 to 0.94 in just 3 months.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone - I haven't posted in quite a while but hope you all may have some thoughts/input. Diagnosed Hashi about 10 years ago so have been on Levoxyl all that time, January this year had thyroid removed - have been on calcium and calcitriol b/c of this. Anyway, 3 months ago I convinced my Endo. to also add Cytomel and she agreed - we started with half a dose (12) once per day and then continue with same dose of Levoxyl (137).
Avatar f tn I still knew not to take the full 25mg of cytomel after the last weeks experience so I began taking 100mcg levoxyl and 1/4 of a 25mg cytomel pill (I cut it 4 ways) once a day for a week then went up to a half pill a day for a week and so on till I got to 25mg of CYTOMEL safely. I took this dose (25mg cytomel and 100mcg of levoxyl) for about a month and felt much better.. Joint pain was gone, fibroid cysts stop rupturing, hair and nails were growing and I definately had energy.
558402 tn?1227060516 5 Cytomel twice daily. Now my Endo wants to decrease the Synthroid to .50 and keep the Cytomel as is. Why would my TSH be so low, with a normal range T4? My Endo is not really interested in how I feel. I am curious what those of you 'in the know' might think. Thank you!
Avatar m tn Levoxyl is the same as it was before it was recalled. I've been on it since August 2014 and have done very well with it. What T4 med & dosage were you on when you tried cytomel before? What dosage of cytomel and how did you take it - all at once or multiple times/day?
Avatar f tn Thanks Char4317 the endo sent Cytomel to my pharmacy and will begin taking cytomel as well as Levoxyl. I feel this will do the trick. Taking the cytomel will bump up my T3 and T4 levels and hopefully allow me to feel better with more energy? Thanks for all your advice. FTB4, if I were you, I would try Levoxyl. I didnt have all the horrible side effects I had on Synthroid. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Ok here is my new situation. My levoxyl was increased to 100 mcg and my cytomel was dropped. My previous labs showed my levels at: TSH .17(.30-5.5) T4 1.15 (.76-1.70) T3 2.7 (1.9-3.9) This was on 88 of levoxyl and 10 of cytomel. I still did not feel very well but I felt a little better. Now that my meds have changed to 100 of levoxyl only here are my new labs: TSH .9 (.49-4.67) T4 .8 (.61-1.6) T3 2.35 (2.5-3.9) How could they have dropped so low? Any thoughts would be helpful.
Avatar f tn 9, I was then put on 300 mcg of Levoxyl and tested at 25, then I was put on 350 mcg of Levoxyl and 25 mcg of Cytomel and tested at .003. I am currently on 325 mcg of Levoxyl and 12.5 mcg of Cytomel. My question is after two years of constant medication should my TSH level be so hard to get under control?
Avatar n tn My first question is how were you taking your Cytomel? Were you splitting it and taking it more than once a day? 10 mcg may have been too much for you. Many of our members take as little as 5 mcg per day (split) and that makes all the difference in the world in how they feel. T3 (Cytomel) is approximately 4 times more potent than T4, so 75 Levoxyl and 10 Cytomel is roughly equivalent to 125 Levoxyl...sounds a little high sine you can't tolerate 100 Levoxyl.
Avatar f tn Thyroid removed 6 years ago and have been on Synthroid. It was determined a few months ago that I'm allergic to Synthroid so I was switched to Tirosent. I currently take 100 of Tirosent and 7.5 of Cytomel each day. Tirosent is very expensive and my insurance doesn't want to pay so I asked my doc about Armour and he has FINALLY agreed to let me try it. He has prescribed 60 of Armour. I feel perfectly fine on the Tirosent/Cytomel.
Avatar f tn As you all know I have been struggling to get regulated. I am up to 3/4 of my levoxyl and I can feel my body healing. My light sensitivity was much better today. Ok my question is could my need of cytomel been due to the fact that I was undermedicated for so long? I've been taking 15-20 mcg of cytomel. I'm wondering will my t3 increase on its own with the levoxyl increase? What causes t3 not to convert? Please help me better understand. Taking meds three times a day is tiring. Thanks!
Avatar f tn I told her I want to be back in the mid to upper range and so she kept me at 112 mcg Levoxyl and reduced my Cytomel to 10mcg 2x daily. Does that sound right to everyone? By lowering my Cytomel and keeping the Levoxyl the same, in theory wouldn't that still make my levels drop again? Please someone tell me I'm not crazy.
Avatar f tn Synthetics are Synthroid, Levoxyl, Cytomel. Naturethroid, Armour are both animal derived from porcine (pigs) ......
Avatar f tn 5 twice per day for about one month. Made several adjustments to levoxyl and cytomel trying to feel better, even trying to increase levoxyl again for a month and one half per my new PCP, did not make me feel better. Per endro, then tried to stay on past working levels of 50 levoxyl and 12.5 cytomel (splitting: ½ in am and ½ at bedtime), I was having constant loud heartbeats waking me up at night, tightness and lump in my throat, and swelling of my neck under my chin.
