Cytomel thyroid cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel thyroid cancer

cytomel

Avatar f tn ll only take half a Cytomel for a few days and see what happens. My endo told me after you have thyroid cancer only an endo can change your meds. She said it didn't have to be her but it had to be an endo. She said if I ever had to go to the ER for anything don't let them change my meds. This is still all new to me and I wasn't even aware that the Synthroid is T4 and the Cytomel is T3. I thank you for helping me understand better.
Avatar f tn If this was an incidental 5mm follicular variant papillary thyroid cancer noted during surgery for an otherwise benign nodular thyroid, then there is no evidence that RAI is helpful. Follicular variant has the same behavior as classic papillary. A single focus less than 1.5cm (some say 2cm) without extension or lymph node involvement does not likely need I-131.
Avatar n tn TSH (0.4-5.5) my reading is 8.5, I have been checked for cancer the ,Dr.says I am cancer free.I am on cytomel.50 mcg tablet, when i started taking medication my weight was 136 lb ,in one year I have lost down to 119.lb.i have stoped taking the meds at times and i gain weight. I am at my wits end what should I do iget so tired and weak when i take the med.
Avatar f tn It just seems my results are never consistent they are all over the place and Im a huge stickler with following same schedule for taking my thyroid meds and just wonder if these numbers changing could in fact be residual thyroid tissue(Cancer)still making hormones which is causing these low thyroid numbers (Thyroid cancer has also spread to nodes both sides of neck) 1st cancer diagnoises I only had it in thyroid NO SPREAD...
Avatar f tn I have never been on synthroid or any other thyroid med in my life. I didn't even know I had thyroid problems until two months before my TT when I was told I had Hashimoto's and suspicious cancer cells. I had the TT 10 days ago and it was a small papilliary cancer with a follicular variant. So, now I'm waiting for appoinetment with Endo this Wednesday to start discussing RAI.
Avatar f tn m suppose to be totally supressed because I had thyroid cancer. I was on Armour thyroid for 2 years and felt pretty good until I changed to levothyroxine because of shortage in supply. Havent felt good since. I'm very tired, muscles ache and feel weak, I'm forgetful, moody and anxious all the time. Does it look like I would benefit from T3 (cytomel)? Or just more levothyroxine? I go to the endo tomorrow but want to be headed on the right track to feeling better.
Avatar n tn No one can know for sure if this is cancer. I don't think thyroids just grow back. Are you sure this is what he said? Also, 'If hormone replacement is necessary' sounds like hogwash to me. You will only have one lobe. I don't see how you can avoid hormone replacement. If I were in your shoes, I would have it removed. I wouldn't take a chance if it could be cancer. I suggest you find an experienced thyroid surgeon, one who does many of these operations per month.
Avatar n tn The TSH is low -- which is often the goal for thyroid cancer treatment. The symptoms are non-specific. There are not a lot of great options with the exception of a trial of cytomel (T3) addition to the synthroid -- this helps a few people, so may be worth a try. Usually we give 5mcg of cytomel in am and mid-afternoon --the synthroid dose would need to decrease by about 40mcg with this addition of cytomel.
Avatar f tn After having two thyroidectomies and radioactive iodine for thyroid cancer (1997), I have been on 75 mcg of cytomel for 13 years. My new doctor wants to lower my dosage significantly because she says my tsh level is too low. I have already changed to 50 mcg daily. I am afraid to go any lower. What should I do?
Avatar f tn Hi, I met a lady at the gym last week who happens to have thyroid disorder as well. She is hypo, however she looks great, she told me she used to have a hard time loosing weight even exercise daily. Her doctor precribed Cytomel at low dose with Synthroid and she said she started loosing weight easier. I heard a lot of hypo patients complain of weight gain or unable to loose weight, but don't hear much of patient taking Cytomel. Is there a reason why doctors don't prescribe Cytomel much?
Avatar m tn I had thyroid cancer and now I take cytomel and synthroid. Can I take maca?
397332 tn?1225482122 Um - you had a large nodule of thyroid cancer removed and it was Stage II (meaning it had spread outside the thyroid). YES - you need RAI treatment!!!! Your labs may be "normal" for now because of the hormone dump some experience after thyroid surgery but they aren't going to stay normal - you don't have a thyroid left to sustain "normal" levels. You have cancer - you either need a referral to an endocrinologist or an oncologist NOT A PSYCHIATRIST.
92903 tn?1309904711 My thyroid was removed 3 days ago because of papilary cancer. That went very smoothly, and I feel fine. Luckily, the cancer seems to have been caught early and does not appear to have spread. The doc has started me on Cytomel only - 25 mg in AM and half that in PM. Cytomel alone seems not typical - nut fom what I read it may be the best choice. I'm curious what others think about this?
Avatar f tn I had a Total Thyroidectomy 9/09 for papillary thyroid cancer follicular variant. After RAI treatment endo wanted to put me on synthroid. I insisted on a dessicated natural hormone and have been taking naturethroid. 8 weeks ago my tsh was 3.5 taking 1.5 gr. i was increased to 1.75 gr. and just got labs back today. TSH now 13.7! Dont know how this is possible. My target TSH for supression i s<.05. Has anyone had trouble regulating with naturethroid.
Avatar f tn I am on 150mcg now and am still fat, tired and short of breath. Can adding cytomel help and can I use it even if I had thyroid ca?
Avatar f tn My son is 21 years old and has a total thyrodectomy due to thyroid cancer he needs to have 131 radioactive iodine soon. The doctor said that he needs to stop taking cytomel a couple of weeks before receiving 131 iodine treatment. Wouldn't he go into a coma if he were to stop the thyroid medication? He had his surgery three weeks ago.
Avatar f tn I had my thyroid removed 36 years ago due to cancer. I have been on Thyrolar all of those 36 years except for a short test period when I was put on synthroid. During the time on synthroid I had mood swings, a general ill feeling. Just didn't feel like myself. Today I tried to refill my prescription and found that Thyrolar is not available and I am unsure if it will ever be available. I have an appointment to see my internist on Monday and would like to go armed with good information.
Avatar f tn I am calling out for help! I was diagnosed 2 years ago with thyroid cancer and had it removed and then proceeded with radioactive iodine treatment. Since then I have been on 200mcg of Synthroid, lowered to 175mcg, and then again lowered to 150mcg. I was still having mixed symptoms of depression, anxiety, horrible nightmears and night sweats, and feelings of being too tired or feeling as though I have adrenaline running through my body.

Avatar f tn Thyroglobulin is a protein used entirely in and by the thyroid. When the thyroid has been removed the thyroglobulin (Tg) test is used to determine if there's any thyroid tissue left. Since Tg is only made/used by the thyroid, the test is used after thyroidectomy/RAI as a tumor marker to determine whether or not the cancer has all been removed.
Avatar n tn She has had me taking various levels of Synthroid and one Cytomel tablet daily for the two years I have been seeing me. She requests that I get my TSH tested nearly every 5 weeks and nearly every time the dosage needs to be adjusted. My sister and my dad both have hypothyroidism also, but they only have the levels checked about once a year. My question is: Does it seem normal that my thyroid meds should need to be adjusted constantly?
Avatar f tn After taking synthroid for 30 plus years for cold nodular, I had a TT on 12/9 due to thyroid cancer being found. Took Cytomel through the holidays and then went on low iodine diet for the last two weeks. I go for blood work tomorrow and am suppose to get first RAI pill on Monday, body scan on Tues and treatment which is a larger dose of iodine later in the week.
Avatar f tn There are usually much better choices, including a T4 type such as synthroid, or a T4/T3 type such as Armour thyroid, or under some conditions, a T3 type such as Cytomel, along with a T4 source. I have no idea where that opinion that cytomel would cause heart problems and osteoporosis. That supposedly is a concern if your TSH is suppressed below the low range limit and stays there for a long while.
