Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel thyroid

cytomel

Avatar n tn 5 cytomel. I never felt better in my life! I was on 125 levothyroxine and 12.5 cytomel to clarify. My doctor said I would not lose weight due to the cytomel. I don't know if it was the cyt or just me feeling better with no more fatigue that made me lose weight. I dropped 25lbs. Two months ago found out I was pregnant and was taken off the cytomel and my levothyroxine was raised to 150. I miscarried a week later. My thyroid levels got so messed up because of the all the hormonal changes.
Avatar n tn Are yoiu on any other thyroid meds as well, or just Cytomel? If so, what is your dosage? If not, why are you on T3-only med (Cytomel)? What were your labs a week ago before going on the Cytomel, and were you on any other meds then?
Avatar f tn results from thyroid panel is T3 uptake is 37.8; TOT T4 is 9.75; FTI is 3.69 and TSH is 0.031. I take .100 synthroid and and .05 cytomel once daily. I'm concerned about the low TSH level. What do you think?
Avatar n tn I was doing really really well on .137 mcg of synthroid and 50 mcg of cytomel and my dr. took me down to 25mcg on cytomel. So I stopped taking all of the meds about 2 months ago. Will the portion of my thyroid that wasn't removed begin working again? Will I have more weight gain without meds, or will it go to hyperthyroid? Or will I have more weight gain or less on the smaller dosage?
Avatar f tn How long should I wait before starting cytomel. Backing down from 112mg tirosint to 100mg. Was previously on 100, but t4 levels were below midrange and t3 below. T4 levels now above midrange and t3 levels below. I tried starting 5mcg cytomel after 1 week but having issues tolerating it. I'm having horrible issues with hairloss too. My hair volume has decreased in half. Is that from the chronically low t3?? I have a history of not doing well with t3 meds.
Avatar f tn when I was taking my thyroid meds which are levothyroxin 137 mcg 1 a day and cytomel 25cg 2 a day I was having suicidal thoughts and the least little things would upset me. now i have been taking these meds for about a year now. I feel that the medician was causeing me to have these thoughts so on my own I stoped taking the cytomel and have been off of it for three weeks or so and all the bad thoughts of suicide have gone away and I dont get as upset as easy as I did before.
903476 tn?1242237037 I receved a letter from my endocrinologist recently saying that he was switching me from desiccated thyroid to cytomel, I had only been on the desiccated thyroid for 6 months with what looked like normal thyroid levels.
Avatar n tn Cytomel is another form of thyroid medication and I have not heard that if should be taken after synthroid. It is the supplements like vitamins and minerals that need to be taken 4 hours after thyroid meds so they do not interfere with absorption in the stomach Both thyroid meds should be taken on an empty stomach and wait one half to one hour before consuming food...Some one else might have a different opinion about the combination of synthroid and cytomel. Keep checking the forum..
Avatar n tn Hi - apparently this Cytomel is very potent stuff, this is what is seem to need. What are the side effects and how effective is it when used correctly. My metabolism is very delicate and I see why it is prescribed in small amounts. I am just disgusted with medical viewpoints and when I go in there to see them they don't seem to know too much about thyroid problems.
Avatar n tn She has had me taking various levels of Synthroid and one Cytomel tablet daily for the two years I have been seeing me. She requests that I get my TSH tested nearly every 5 weeks and nearly every time the dosage needs to be adjusted. My sister and my dad both have hypothyroidism also, but they only have the levels checked about once a year. My question is: Does it seem normal that my thyroid meds should need to be adjusted constantly?
Avatar f tn First day of taking generic Cytomel 5mg. Feeling tired after the second dose. Is this normal???
Avatar m tn The endo told me I should try a half dose of the cytomel. That made no difference. Now she told me to quit the cytomel and see if that helps. Now I am getting a light period..... What she told me is that if cutting out the cytomel doesn't work than I will probably have to quit the bc pill. Is there any problem with these 3 medications together? She won't let me try the natural thyroid because she said if I have bleeding problems, natural could make it worse. What should I do?
Avatar f tn Hello, I was recently told I have Hashimotos and a metabolically under active thyroid. My doctor prescribed Cytomel, which I have not been able to tolerate due to heart palpitations. When I started taking the Cytomel I noticed things in me disappearing that I have struggled with my whole life and felt better than I knew possible. I even started losing weight without making a change to my diet, I have struggled to lose a lb even on phentermine.
Avatar f tn The fact that your depression lessens when on a thyroid medicine (T3 cytomel) would lead you to believe getting your thyroid levels optimized may have a positive effect for you. I too agree with Barb. 25 mcg of Cytomel is HUGE dose. And many people here have reported that they need to have a pretty narrow balance between Free T4 and Free T3. And yours are definately askew with FT4 very low and FT3 higher.
Avatar f tn If you take oral iron, it must be separated by 3-4 hours from any thyroid med to avoid absorption problems of the thyroid med.
765572 tn?1234697366 Levothyroxine is the generic for synthroid, which is a T4 med only - those 2 can be interchangeable, but some people do better on one or the other. Cytomel is a T3 only med. Armour is a natural thyroid hormone which has both T4 and T3. T3 is a very short lived hormone - only lasts a few hours and often works best to split the dosage over the day. The body has to convert T4 into T3 in order to benefit. A lot of people do not have a problem making this conversion but others do.
Avatar f tn t seem to be experiencing any symptoms of not having a thyroid. Or, should I go ahead and start taking this Cytomel as most likely I will start to expereience symptoms soon. I've heard people have some side effects (sleeplessness, headaches, nauseau) taking this Cytomel. Please let me know what you think. Thank you.
988694 tn?1332359479 Don't give up too quickly. I recall seeing somewhere that Cytomel is the only thyroid med without any side effects.
