Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel t3

cytomel

988694 tn?1332359479 Does anybody know a T3 only medicine without fillers? I was added Cytomel and my NT was reduced to 2 grains due to RT3. So far feeling awful, but I am more concern, despite all the pain and discomfort I am in, about Cytomel causing me allergies. My nose is itching and I have been sneezing. I had a similar episode a couple of years ago and I quit it. I cannot do compound pharmacy since I have to travel and it is too much trouble. Any idea about an existent hypoallergenic T3 only medicine?
Avatar f tn t have hyper symptoms? Would there be another reason for the high T3? Is it good judgement to prescribe cytomel with armour thyroid? I am not taking cytomel, but it was recommended by another physician in the past. Would taking iron supplements help absorption of T3. Thank you.
545991 tn?1214437112 You mention weight as an issue and fact is - that taking a T3 Cytomel- or Armour SHOULD help with that if you are not having a RT3 issue. If you are not seeing some decrease at all - AS I - it doesn't hurt to have RT3 labs. Your low Free T3 could indicate a RT3 issue. especially if you are on cytomel. The connection with RT3 is Lepitin - a metobolism hormone - so if you are storing your Free T3's in RT3 components, we can pump any amount of T3 in us and still gain weight!
Avatar m tn What do you all think? Is it ok that I am taking so much Cytomel? He said that my free t3 was so low that he has plenty of room to add to it. I'm still sitting on the couch any downtime I have unless there's a pressing responsibility.
Avatar f tn Initally - going on a T3 med - Cytomel in addition to the Synthroid - you will feel great - then crash. This applies to natural thyroid combo meds too. T3 hormone is direct - which means your body accepts it immediately. You expressed you felt aweful prior to starting Cytomel - so that says you were hypothyroid and wanted direct T3. Well, you gave the body - what it needed - but it wants more. This is proven on your FT3 lab - the only thing is this is an old lab so one can only assume.
Avatar f tn 2 mg levothroxine but recently my doc. added 25 mcg of cytomel. My T3 levels went extremely high and TSH less then 0.5. I have been extemely ill - headaches, chills, sweats, light head, dizzy, naseau, anxiety. My doc has stopped the cytomel. My questions are: 1. How long does it take for the thryoid levels to return back to where they were. And how long do these symptoms last. 2. Was 25 mcg of cytomel a normal amount to add to 0.2 mg of levothroxine..
Avatar n tn 9, he decided to change my synthroid to 100 much and added Cytomel 5mcg twice a day. I’m not familiar with Cytomel, will the addition of this medicine compensate reducing my synthroid? Will it help with my Simptoms? Thank you!
Avatar n tn I am on 3 grains of armour, which amounts to 27 mcg of T3 (9 mcg per grain). Before switching I was taking 15 mcg on T3 (cytomel). So theoretically, despite the fact that my body has to convert the T4 to T3, then shouldn't I be getting that same type of readily available T3 in the naturethroid aside from the T4 it has in it? Does the T4 block the T3 from working somehow? Or is it the time release? It seems like I should be bouncing off the walls with all of the T3 in the naturethroid.
Avatar f tn Trail and error asTamra said. And really - hats off to your doctor lowering the T4 while trying this new script T3 Cytomel. It better to work up slow than to push too much in and I am happy to hear your doctor is playing that safe w/ you. You may find taking the T3 med around 10 or 11 is best for you.
Avatar f tn Typically, T4 thyroid hormones are taken when one gets up in the morning, on an empty stomach with a cup of water, then nothing should be eaten or drank for 30 minutes to an hour afterward. I take my first T3 pill with my T4. Unlike T4, Cytomel/T3 can be taken with or without food, so it's okay to take it with lunch or slightly before. It's okay to experiment with the timing and see what works better for your schedule.
590006 tn?1221271520 Thanks for the advice. I will seriuosly reconsider using Cytomel. I'm a Hashi hypo sufferer. My T3 is in the normal range and my TSH is 1.4. My endo was going to put me on Cytomel 5 mcg just in the morning (not twice a day). I took Cytomel for a year a couple years back. It made me feel better (fatigue and brain fog gone), but I became hyper one year later. My TSH was .419. I thought trying the Cytomel again with a TSH of 1.4 would work with an adjustment to the unithroid.
765572 tn?1234697366 Levothyroxine is the generic for synthroid, which is a T4 med only - those 2 can be interchangeable, but some people do better on one or the other. Cytomel is a T3 only med. Armour is a natural thyroid hormone which has both T4 and T3. T3 is a very short lived hormone - only lasts a few hours and often works best to split the dosage over the day. The body has to convert T4 into T3 in order to benefit. A lot of people do not have a problem making this conversion but others do.
Avatar n tn m on 137mcg of synthroid and 10 mcg of cytomel and the cotor told me my Free T3 is too high and to stop cytomel. But I feel better...I really don't want to. Is this normal?
Avatar f tn Would decreasing the synthroid and increasing my cytomel be an option? Also I had a reverse T3 done. My last was very elevated. My naturopath believes in the theory of the reverese T3 binding the receptor sites so that the T3 cannot, hence continued hypo symptoms with what appears to be adequate T3. Honestly I don't know what to think anymore, I only know I don't feel well. Have you read much on the Reverse T3 theory. I would appreciate your input. Thank you.

558402 tn?1227060516 If your Endo is going to have you on Cytomel, he/she should be running a Free T3 as well before adjusting your med dosage. The Cytomel is likely why your TSH is so low. Your Free T3 is probably too high. Just a guess, because you don't list a Free T3 result. Why are you on Cytomel? Do you have a conversion problem? Perhaps you would feel better upping your Synthroid and dropping the Cytomel. Have you tried that yet?
407745 tn?1230850087 Synthroid is T4 only and converts to T3 in the body. Cytomel is T3 only. You may be getting too much T3 by taking the cytomel. You might be able to drop the cytomel until your next blood test to see how your body is doing on just the synthroid..
Avatar f tn been on cytomel 1month. tsh gone down to .27, t3 2.9, t4 1.23, reverse t3 13.5. should i go down to 75 mcg synthroid or stay at 88. i feel good!
Avatar f tn m on 10 mcg of generic T3 (same as cytomel) and I take a 5 mcg pill in the morning, with my T4 med and another 5 mcg pill around noon. That keeps me going all day.
1369218 tn?1282423884 How long have you been on the cytomel? If you are sensitive to T3, then you are going to have same with armour. In fact the ratio of T3 is higher than the T4. Also, are you breaking up your 10mcg daily into 5 in morning and 5 in afternoon?
Avatar n tn You have to have the proper ratio of both or you will still remain and feel ill. So, you need T4 and T3 meds both. I switched from armour to synthroid and cytomel. And then had to do teh labs every 6 weeks to make sure I was on correct dosage. Cytomel is very potent. I was on 120mgs of armour. I am now up to 100 mcg synthroid and 15 mcg cytomel.
Avatar n tn The lower TSH is expected due to increase in thyroid meds (addition of cytomel). The synthroid (t4) is usually lowered when one starts cytomel -- there is no proven benefit of combining T4 and T3 -- if you feel better with it and the level of TSH is not too low (<0.3 usually) then it may be reasonable, but if not then there is no clear role for routine use of cytomel with a slightly low free T3 level. T3 levels fluctuate during the day so interpret labs w/ caution.
