Cytomel shortage

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel shortage

cytomel

1070570 tn?1283436213 I was up to 125 mcg synthroid, then dropped back to 75 synthroid, then switched to 75 generic levo and added 10 mcg cytomel. That was too much cytomel, so dropped back to 5 mcg cytomel and switched to generic; then up to 88 mcg levo, staying with 5 mcg generic cytomel. Am currently on 100 mcg Tirosint and 5 mcg generic cytomel. I take the Tirosint first thing in the morning, per instructions (my day starts 3:30 am). I take my T3 med about 7-7:30 am.
Avatar f tn Initally - going on a T3 med - Cytomel in addition to the Synthroid - you will feel great - then crash. This applies to natural thyroid combo meds too. T3 hormone is direct - which means your body accepts it immediately. You expressed you felt aweful prior to starting Cytomel - so that says you were hypothyroid and wanted direct T3. Well, you gave the body - what it needed - but it wants more. This is proven on your FT3 lab - the only thing is this is an old lab so one can only assume.
Avatar f tn ok just started taking cytomel w/ my sythroid and the doc gives me a script for vyanase which is basically speed. I am scared to take it b/c cytomel is also a stimulate. will this freak me out or what? i haven't taken the speed yet b/c i am so scared i will die of a heartattack!! anyone else on this? thanks for your help.
558402 tn?1227060516 5 Cytomel twice daily. Now my Endo wants to decrease the Synthroid to .50 and keep the Cytomel as is. Why would my TSH be so low, with a normal range T4? My Endo is not really interested in how I feel. I am curious what those of you 'in the know' might think. Thank you!
Avatar f tn Hi I was wondering if anyone was switched to levothyroxine because of the shortage and had sucess with the transition. I was switched to levothyroxine 150 from being on Armour Thyroid 105 for about 2 years and had hyper symptoms and was was switched to levothyroxine 125 and still had hyper symptoms and labs. So the doctor decreased me to 100 and after 3 weeks was very tired, depressed, anxious and weak.
499534 tn?1328704178 I am testing again next week to see if we will then increase my cytomel again or the synthroid. He does not have a problem taking me to the 25 mcg of cytomel if it is benefiting me the most. When we find the correct dosage of Cytomel, we will then have it compounded into a time release form so I do not have to dosage myself throughout the day. It will remain steady in my bloodstream. I decided to make the switch back in the spring.....
252327 tn?1250183976 My doc told me to take the100 mcg snythroid with 5 mcg cytomel in the morning and then after 2 weeks to take another cytomel around noon. He said if I get any palputations to back off the second one. He orginally prescribed 30 mcg of amour but the drug stores said that it wouldn't be avalible untill October. So then he gave me the cytomel, so far I feel much better especially with the brain fog and fatigue, I still work full time so I still need my energy.
Avatar n tn I just started cytomel (5 mcg x 2) but I am having very bad headaches. I cut my pills in 4 pieces to see if the headaches would get better but physically I seem to need the full 5 mcg to feel better. My eyes also look a little puffy too. Has anyone had headaches from this drug and been able to work up to a higher dose eventually? I'm also on 88 mcg of synthroid.
393685 tn?1425812522 as expected - due to the mass production now of Naturethroid at RLC labs there seems to be a shortage of meds and grains being distributed. YES I was lazy and kept getting my script month to month too - I could kick myself for that decision I made.... I just called my doctor and will be picking up at least a 3 month supply of my dosages. I get my script directly from her so I hope I will not have issues getting it.
581310 tn?1253029550 I switched from Armour to Synthroid with Cytomel and am doing very well. synthroid alone kept me sick when I was on it before. The addtion of Cytomel with the synthroid is working great! Soooooo you may end up like many others in making the change.
Avatar f tn Your FT4 looks really good. The rule of thumb is midrange for FT4, and you're just into the upper third of the range. So, a little on the high side. However, your FT3 is very low. Very low...just off the floor of the range. If I were you, I'd try adding some Cytomel. Your FT3 could definitely use the boost. Keep in mind that when you add Cytomel (it's roughly four times more potent than T4 meds), you usually have to lower your T4 meds to compensate.
Avatar m tn Your doctor has options like scripting - Naturethroid - or looking at a balance of synthetic T4 and T3 meds ( like Synthroid or Cytomel) until the shortage is over - which............. rest assured - will be over in weeks. If you need assistance looking for pharmacies that do carry the natural desiccated thyroid meds right now - message me and I can give you some ways to look for them.
889468 tn?1241567623 There has been a shortage of the Armour brand since August. Nearly impossible now. Many here used to use it. The brand Nature Throid (spelled like that), you can google thier site, should be available soon. In the meantime past Armour patients are depending on compounding pharmacies, Nature -Throid if they can find it, synthetic combination of T3 cytomel and T4 synthroid, or getting Canadian ERFA Thyroid from online Canadian pharmacies.
607546 tn?1222299144 I just wanted to mention that everyone is different so some people may do just as well on a mix of Synthroid and Cytomel as oppose to natural thyroid like Armour, Naturethroid, etc but others don't do well on the synthetic version. I've taken both forms and after a short while on the synthetic we realized I get an allergic reaction to the synthetic thyroid and cannot take it at all.
535882 tn?1396576685 I am on Synthroid/Cytomel and want to switch to compounded. Why did you switch? I still have many hypo symptoms even though TSH is normal.
630135 tn?1241043958 It has worked for me, but some people have reactions and need natural stuff like Nature Thryoid or Armour (which are both in a shortage right now). Those people needing their natural meds are going to compounding pharmacies. Most natural drugs are made from pig thyroid and they have T3 and T4 hormones in them. In a few weeks, my new endo might add the synthetic T3 drug, Cytomel. to my Synthroid, depending on my lab ranges.
Avatar m tn Your doctor replaced that with 25 mcg levo and 10 mcg Cytomel. Cytomel is about four times more potent than levo, so the 10 mcg Cytomel is roughly equivalent to 40 mcg levo, bringing the total to the equavalent of 65 mcg levo. So, you are about 35 mcg short of your former dose of 1 gr Armour. That's a big difference. It's no wonder you were feeling worse and worse.
Avatar n tn Sometimes Synthroid dosen't work until doctors treat the FT3 levels and adjust by adding Cytomel. Sometimes, you will need to switch to a natural thyroid med like Armour or Nature Thyroid, or becasue of the shortage of natural thryoid meds right now, some are using compounding pharmacies. Google compounding pharmacy in your area. They make the thyroid mixture for you there.
1369218 tn?1282423884 My doc wants to switch me from Synthroid/Cytomel to armour. Is it any better yet? I know it was reformulated last year, but is it back? I still have hypo symtpoms including insomnia.
Avatar n tn I went for a second opinion and was told there was no contraindications to Cytomel so I could stop the Synthroid and take Cytomel. With two completely opposing views, I am confused as to why I should do desides seek a third opinion. Any thoughts? Thx.
Avatar n tn for thyroid, but while out of state, I had my faith tested with her, when she agreed to shift me to Armour, in the midst of a Cytomel shortage, but the dosage was going to be ridiculously low. Arguing this point was too much stress, so I stayed with the Levoxyl/Cytomel combo. Her suggestion was 4 days 50 mcg Levoxyl, 3 days 75 mcg Levoxyl and daily, 25 mcg Cytomel.
Avatar f tn I switched from Armour to Synthroid WITH Cytomel added and having great results. Synthroid is a T4 med and Cytomel is a T3 med. With a combination of the 2 you should be able to maintain your levels properly, and then decide what you want to do when the dessicated meds are once available again.
Avatar f tn I started levo about 2 wwkds ago and I felt like you described with being kinda spaced out and also itchy. I was on Natur-throid but with the shortage I had to switch to levo. My doctor also put me on Cytomel T3 to take with the levo twice a day. I am starting to feel better so hopefully it will work for me. It does take a couple months to really see where your going to be with your levels. But I feel a difference already since my body seems to be getting used to it.
535882 tn?1396576685 I take Armour because I need the T3 and rather taking two drugs such as Levethroid and Cytomel, I figure it is easier. My body temp is down to 94.1 which means my adrenals are a bit stressed. take your body temp. under your arm, if it is below 97.7, chances are your adrenals are stressed and you may need adrenal support. There is a great web site drbrownstein.c You may want to check that out. Also calciumlie.c is a good site to view as too much calcium will interfere with Thyroid function.
