cytomel

327369 tn?1326119908 Was the addition of this med to synthroid or other T4 med helpful for you? If so what did it improve (i.e. fatigue, hair loss) and how much did you take? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Once it was decided that RAI was not necessary, my endo switched me to Synthroid. I felt wonderful on Cytomel and just okay on Synthroid and my endo does not believe in prescribing Cytomel due to cardiac side effects and the short half life. I went for a second opinion and was told there was no contraindications to Cytomel so I could stop the Synthroid and take Cytomel. With two completely opposing views, I am confused as to why I should do desides seek a third opinion. Any thoughts? Thx.
535882 tn?1396576685 Since you are on Synthroid now, you may want to suggest adding .5 or .10 mcgs of Cytomel first - just to see.
Avatar n tn t seem to be able to tolerate T3, so I am tempted to just start on Synthroid and add Cytomel later on. Can I start out on 50 mg Synthroid or is that too much? Here are my latest labs WITHOUT the influence of thyroid medication: TSH 2.79 (Range: 0.40 - 4.50) Free T4 1.0 (Range: 0.8 - 1.8) Free T3 2.8 (Range: 2.3 - 4.
1070570 tn?1283436213 I switched to Synthroid and Cytomel and after some dosage adjustments, I am now on 150 Synthroid and 12.5 mcg of Cytomel, with the Cytomel split into two doses, in a.m. and late afternoon.
1070570 tn?1283436213 have been told I have a conversion issue due to a high RT3 level in April (352)- don't convert T4 to T3 optimally, instead it converts to RT3 which cancels out the T3 that's trying to get into my cells. That's why I was wondering if increasing the synthroid was just gonna increase my RT3 and make me feel worse.
Avatar f tn So my question to you is can I cut my 75mcg synthroid in half? or just ask my doc for the 50mcg??? he gave me 25mg of cytomel. but I did cut it in half because I was scared to take the full dose. any suggestions from the pros?
Avatar n tn Hi kimberlyn1234, I am on both Synthroid and Cytomel. I was just reduced to 75 Syn and remain at 25 Cytomel. My doctor explained it to me like this: Synthroid is a synthetic T4. Your thyroid works to turn this into T3. Cytomel is a synthetic T3, so it goes right to work without having to go through the "processing". I didn't start on Cytomel but it was added a few years after my diagnosis because my T3's were still low.
Avatar n tn Actually that conversion chart is misleading. It typically shows that 100 mcg of T4 equals one grain of NCT equals 25 mcg of T4. Since one grain of NDT typically contains about 39 mcg of t4 and 9 mcg of T3, that would mean that one grain would only be equal to 75 mcg of T4, not 100 (39 plus 4 times 9 equals 75). Further, there are two scientific studies that concluded that the correct factor is 3 to 1, not 4 to 1. The Guidelines of the AACE/ATA also indicates a 3 to 1 factor.
Avatar n tn Why do they keep switching you from Synthroid it desiccated? You need to get on one or the other and stay there... Also, you need just one doctor managing your thyroid - it never works to have 2 of them doing it... I don't understand why your pcp lowered your Synthroid dose from 75 to 50, when your FT4 was already too low, at only 1.0... it wasn't even at the recommended 50% of range mark... Now at 0.
Avatar n tn i take cytomel in the morning with my synthroid--and also again the afternoon. does cytomel have to be taken an our after synthroid? never heard that but just read that here? also i am getting different information about whether cytomel can be taken with food, or on an empty stomach. also i am on yaz birth control, which i take several hours after my cytomel--is that ok? please help.
Avatar f tn I have been taking synthroid for 4 months and cytomel for 2 months. i forgot to take my cytomel yesterday and I didn't even notice. does that mean I have an adrenal problems??? my cortisol level is low but everything else was ok. the stimulation test ACTH?? I responded, so it probably isn't my adrenals. what are the chances that someone has a pituatary tumor?? I noticed when I first started taking the synthoid it helped somewhat but the test results show a low FT3 still.
Avatar m tn Just a couple of thoughts. If, as I suspect, you dropped the Synthroid/Cytomel and switched to Armour at the same time, then you basically increased your T3 dosage, which probably gave you a boost for a while until your T4 levels normalize to the new amount of T4 from the Armour. Once this takes place over 4-5 weeks, then I think you might feel like you are dropping back into your prior level of symptoms.
558402 tn?1227060516 5 Cytomel twice daily. Now my Endo wants to decrease the Synthroid to .50 and keep the Cytomel as is. Why would my TSH be so low, with a normal range T4? My Endo is not really interested in how I feel. I am curious what those of you 'in the know' might think. Thank you!
407745 tn?1230850087 I am taking Synthroid 100 MCG & Cytomel 5MCG what happens when you have too much T3 ? i have been looking for a new endrcrinologis, the dr.
Avatar n tn I am hypo and take synthroid and cytomel. The synthroid was adjusted just recently. I think you may have hit on something when you said to take the cytomel in the afternoon. Gee why didnt I think of that. DUH. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Then backing with blood work and listening to the patient the doctor could prescribe adding a T3 Cytomel to your Synthroid to see if you feel better. But usually not stop Synthroid entirely. I found my doctor frowned on Cytomel for some reason when I was still on Synthroid so he made the decision along with my inquiry to try a T4/T3 combo medication Armour. That has definately made a huge difference for me in relieving my symptoms of hypothyroidsim. HUGE!!
Avatar n tn Is it radioactive iodine complication (have salivary gland problems), or not tolerating synthroid properly or is it fibromyalgia...how can anyone make a diagnosis for something new when I don't feel that meds have been properly regulated???
Avatar n tn Unlike Synthroid (or other T4 meds), cytomel/liothyronine (generic T3) can be taken with or without food. I was started on 10 mcg cytomel and that was too much, but at that time I didn't know to split the dosage... I dropped back to 5 mcg and no - I didn't feel any difference when I first started taking it. In fact, I didn't know that it was really doing anything for me, until I didn't take it for a few days and quickly began to feel like cr@p...
765572 tn?1234697366 Synthroid, levothyroxine, cytomel and Armour are not all the same meds and are not interchangeable!! Levothyroxine is the generic for synthroid, which is a T4 med only - those 2 can be interchangeable, but some people do better on one or the other. Cytomel is a T3 only med. Armour is a natural thyroid hormone which has both T4 and T3. T3 is a very short lived hormone - only lasts a few hours and often works best to split the dosage over the day.
