Cytomel or armour

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel or armour

cytomel

Avatar n tn I went for a second opinion and was told there was no contraindications to Cytomel so I could stop the Synthroid and take Cytomel. With two completely opposing views, I am confused as to why I should do desides seek a third opinion. Any thoughts? Thx.
Avatar m tn Just a couple of thoughts. If, as I suspect, you dropped the Synthroid/Cytomel and switched to Armour at the same time, then you basically increased your T3 dosage, which probably gave you a boost for a while until your T4 levels normalize to the new amount of T4 from the Armour. Once this takes place over 4-5 weeks, then I think you might feel like you are dropping back into your prior level of symptoms.
535882 tn?1396576685 How is it to switch to Armour or Natural. does it take long? Are there side effects? Do you feel the switch ? Is it noticable? Thanks docs. thinking of switching me. waiting on blood results. Thanks For any info.
Avatar n tn Before going off my meds to be scanned again I was taking both Synthroid and Cytomel, will these in combination do the same thing as Armour or Thyrolar? I am still learning ,and as a lot of you know the first year after Thyroid cancer, your brain doesn't seem to work properly all the time, so concentration is limited at times to say the least. Well any way I want to be informed a litttle more by tomorrow so any info is much appreciated.
Avatar n tn Personally you favor T3 Cytomel - except the sweating issue - so I \would think your doctor could consider dropping the Armour and base you direct on either the time released T3 or return you to Cytomel - and also prescribe the T4 with it only. If you doctor had you on Cytomel- Armour and Synthroid all together then sweating WOULD certainly be an issue at certain times of the day - Cytomel and Armour are direct T3 as you know and spike at certain times of the day and then deplete.
Avatar n tn I am not sure I am on the right thread. Have not been on this site for a while. My girlfriend's had greave's disease and went through RAI about 8 years ago. She been stable on Armour and Cytomel and 50mg Zoloft. But recently about 4 months ago, she have been very aggressive and breaking stuff and slamming doors. She gets stress out so quick too. I am thinking she might happen to be too high on her meds. She is taking 75mg Armour and 5 mg cytomel.
Avatar f tn Taking cytomel is not "cheating"......... If your body isn't converting the T4 to T3, there's nothing you can do to force it. No, taking T3 med is not going to affect how your body converts. Taking a daily dose of selenium may help, but that's not guaranteed. There are different schools of thought on the cytomel vs Armour issue. Some people do well only on Armour (or other desiccated), others of us do just as well on cytomel or generic T3.
Avatar n tn 90 mg of Armour is 37.5 mcg of Cytomel plus 150 mcg of levo. http://thyroid.about.com/library/drugs/blconversionchart.
533212 tn?1245849211 My question is after researching the internet, and reading a lot of good press for Armour Thyroid, should I ask my doctor to put me on Armour Thyroid or just add a prescription for Cytomel to bring my T3 levels back within range. Out of curiosity, I've decided to look at all the previous tests that I have accumulated over the past 19 years, and discovered that in all those years I had not been tested for T3 levels until just recently. Go figure. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn My doc just put me on cytomel. She said to take it with Armour. Something about I need more t3ort4.. Can someone explain? And, I hear you guys talk about " grains ". What is a grain? I am on 60 mg of Armour and 5 mcg cytomel. My TSH came down from 7.04 to 1.92 in first 6 weeks of Armour only..that's good right? She said my TPO was 45 though....? Help.
1070570 tn?1283436213 When I found this Forum and learned about the importance of FT3 and found mine to be in the lower third of the range, I persuaded my doctor to switch me to Armour. That was working great until Armour was no longer available. I switched to Synthroid and Cytomel and after some dosage adjustments, I am now on 150 Synthroid and 12.5 mcg of Cytomel, with the Cytomel split into two doses, in a.m. and late afternoon.
Avatar f tn OH my! 150mcg levoxl and 50 mcg cytomel is a lot higher dose medicine than the equivilant of 120 Armour, no wonder your having more palps! Not only that, but the cytomel to levoxyl ratio is higher than most, seems to me you need less cytomel. This is a rough estimate I have been on both types of meds (I am not a doctor). 120 Armour is about the same as 112 mcg synthetic T4 with 10 mcg cytomel per day. Are you sure on the amount per day of old verses new meds you take?
Avatar n tn Went on T3 3 years ago and did well but lately more hypo symptoms. Now will be taking 50 Cytomel and 1 grain of Armour to start out with. My systoms are hair loss, ear ringing, tired, not sleeping. Anyone tried T3 with Armour. I am praying this will work and reverse my symptoms.
Avatar n tn 1) Add some levo to your Armour and drop the dosage of Armour to compensate. or 2) go back to a combination of levo and Cytomel, but increaase the levo slightly (maybe to 112.5) and drop the Cytomel to 10 mcg (split into two doses). Are you taking your Armour just once a day, or twice?
327369 tn?1326119908 Cytomel has been very helpful to me, because all the local drugstores ran out of Armour, so I had to add in some Cytomel along with my Synthroid, to avoid becoming hypo again. It has taken a little tweaking of dosage, but so far, so good. Just for info, I noticed something in the medical info that came with the Cytomel. It stated that Cytomel has no known side effects. How many meds do you know that can say that?
Avatar m tn Has anyone lost weight on Tirosint and cytomel? Feel less tired. Is it ok to ask her to place me on Armour with cytomel in the afternoons to bump up my t3?
1877796 tn?1320527991 What dose of T4 were you taking before adding the Cytomel? What was your T4 dose after adding the Cytomel? How much Cytomel? Did you split the Cytomel into two doses and take 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the afternoon? Be aware that switching from Synthroid only and going to Armour may require a transition, rather than doing it all at once. What is your current dose of Synthroid and what will be the new dose of Armour?
Avatar n tn It depends How long have you been taking Armour?
4065534 tn?1400548736 I know gimel has more experience with RT3 issues than others, but from just your labs it looks like you still need more T4 and T3. Perhaps a raise in Armour coupled with the current Cytomel dose would do it for you?
Avatar f tn Has anyone experienced these symptoms using Synthroid with Cytomel--and/or re Cytomel? Are your adrenals balanced? There seems to be some difficulty testing Free T3 on cytomel also at certain ranges Can someone comment on/point to info on that too?. How have people done on Naturethroid/transitioning to Naturethroid. Any/all info most appreciated.
499534 tn?1328704178 I am testing again next week to see if we will then increase my cytomel again or the synthroid. He does not have a problem taking me to the 25 mcg of cytomel if it is benefiting me the most. When we find the correct dosage of Cytomel, we will then have it compounded into a time release form so I do not have to dosage myself throughout the day. It will remain steady in my bloodstream. I decided to make the switch back in the spring.....
1369218 tn?1282423884 Armour was taken off the market a while back but I can't imagine why there would be a problem to get it now. Note that there are other similar desiccated types like Nature Throid and iWesthroid. It was puzzling as to why there might be no Armour in Pittsburgh. So, I looked up and called a local pharmacy (happened to be Rite Aid), and they said they carried it in all strengths.
Avatar f tn I just changed from synthroid and cytomel to Armour at my insistance because my tsh was .35 and still I have symptoms. I have been on Armour a week and can not tell much difference. I feel like I am doomed to always feel this way!
Avatar n tn Well, since I was feeling better with the T3 addition I called the endo and asked about the benefit of Armour over Cytomel/Synthroid and if that would be beneficial. I was shocked when the nurse called and told me the Armour was called in at 60 mg to take once daily, labs in 8 weeks. Now I am nervous because it is only 60 mcg of Armour and I am on 100 Synthroid and 10 Cytomel and 60 is not enough so I think they are not sure how to dose this.
Avatar f tn I take 30mg Armour and 5 mcg Cytomel in the morning at 6:30am  and 30mg Armour and 5 McG Cytomel again at 3pm. I feel great, much better than when they had me on just 30mg Armour once a day.
