Cytomel once a day

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel once a day

cytomel

Avatar f tn My dr. Then increased my cytomel to 7.5 mcg once a day. I am still not feeling well. I have more energy but i continue to experience hunger, weight loss and hair loss. My recent blood tests are as follows T4 9.4 range of 4.5-12.0 T3. 85 range 71-180 Tsh 0.450 range of 0.450-4.500 Free t4. 1.33 range 0.82-1.77 Ferritin serum 56 range 15-150 Iron bind 243. Range 250--450 Iron serum 76 range 35-155 Vitamin d 35.3 range 30.0-100.
Avatar f tn I just picked up a 25mcg prescription of Cytomel. I already take 100mcg Synthroid in the morning. What's the best time of day to take the Cytomel? My dr. said in the evening, but I heard it causes insomnia if taken that late. Also, should I take the whole dose at once or split it in half?
Avatar f tn I had a thyroidectomy in 2008 and ever since then I have been on a roller coaster of Synthroid! Up and down. 112 to 150mcg's. Finally Mr. Perfect Endoman has saved me with the Cytomel 5mcg in the am/pm. HOWEVER I started the cytomel just in the am while I was on 137mcg of Synthroid. I dropped every afternnoon about 3pm to total sleepytown. I mean like I couldn't hardly stay awake. So Mr. Perfect Endo dropped my Synthroid to 112mcg's and Cytomel twice a day.
Avatar m tn I wondered because they only ever had me take the antipsychotics I've taken once a day and I always heard everyone else talk about taking them twice a day. I'm only awake 12 hours or less a day and the current one I'm on has a half life of 3 days so I guess it's kind of pointless for me to take it twice a day.
Avatar f tn Prior to hashimoto I was a personal trainer and aerobics instructor, went from a size 3 to a 3X. Thanks to cytomel I have very slowly lost 58 pounds and I'm in an XL, very proud of that. I workout 3 hours a day and eat 1200 calories, much better then before. I just cannot go back to the ball of cold goo, sleeping 12 hours, having clumps of hair fall out while doctors tell me I'm fine or overeating when I'm starving to death. Any advice or suggestions???
1139187 tn?1355706647 Since T3 is short lived and available for use immediately, many people I think need to take this more than once a day. If you are taking it once a day, you may want to ask your Dr. about splitting the pill and taking half in the morning and half in the evening. Don't take too late or you may have trouble getting to sleep. I think most take the 2nd dose in early afternoon like 2 PM or so. Just some thoughts to consider.
Avatar f tn t happen in people not on thyroid meds. Perhaps it has to due with the fact that we take our meds once a day in one fell swoop instead of having a constant supply of T4 all day??? Watch your FT3 and FT4 numbers. You could try cutting back on Cytomel slowly to see if conversion replaces the Cytomel. However, as always...one thing at a time so you can really isolate its effects.Change too many things at once, and you're guessing...
Avatar f tn Yes we need to see your most recent thyroid labs with ranges please. I am on Synthroid and Cytomel both. And once you find a level of Cytomel that works, you can have it compounded into a time release, so it stays in your bloodstream at a constant level. The only time patients normally go on Cytomel only, is if their reverse T3 level is high.
Avatar f tn 30am  and 30mg Armour and 5 McG Cytomel again at 3pm. I feel great, much better than when they had me on just 30mg Armour once a day.
Avatar f tn I have two months worth of Tirosint 88 at home which I can toss or take an extra of one day a week to bring my dose to 705 a week. Just 5 above what it would be at 100 daily. Is it a bad idea to double up once a week? Is it too much or not good for your body? I also have two months worth of Levoxyl 100 at home. My old script before asking to switch to Tirosint. Can I take those in lieu of Tirosint 100 just to finish them up?
1369218 tn?1282423884 About a year ago I went on Cytomel too. My free T3 was low, so my endo agreed. I started with 5 mcg once a day and then went to twice a day about 4 hours apart. I started getting heart palpatations even though my levels were looking better. I went back down to one Cytomel. I then about 6 months later started with the heart palps again and diarehha. This went on for about a month and then again cut out the Cytomel completely and I don't have issues anymore.
Avatar f tn Also I see that some people split the pill to take it twice a day.
Avatar f tn I am seeing some improvement since being off cytomel (which I took once per day in the morning). I was so overwhelmed in the doctors office I may have misheard some of the information he presented to me. When I get my labs I will post them and hopefully someone can shed some light on the situation. I only weigh in once per week now instead of everyday to stop the mental beating I was giving myself! I am sleeping somewhat better, so that is good. I do miss food, though! Lol!
Avatar n tn 76-181 T3,Total 82 Out of pocket Endo upped the Cytomel (t3) and reduced the Levoxyl one day a week, the tsh has dropped even lower. Should I reduce my t4 by another day, making it a total of 75 mcg, 5 x weekly? I am so confused, and hmo Dr. ignores everything-the same doctor that prescribed the weirdness of last post, that I refused to take. Please help.
363243 tn?1331033850 only 4, but it increased to 20 at 30 minutes and 24 at 60 minutes. I still feel sick so she decided to prescribe HC once a day for me for a replacement dose. Is this normal protocol?
1369218 tn?1282423884 They started about 6 months ago, so I was lowered from 10 of Cytomel split twice a day to one a day. I did that for a while and the palps and diarehha started. I then forgot a Cytomel on day and I did not have the diarehha. I had been suffering from that for about 6 weeks. My body is definitly shifting lately. I don't know what to do, but I do not like how Cytomel makes me feel. I see a new endo next month, so hopefully she can help me better. Unfortunatly though I am not holding my breath.
734073 tn?1278896325 Can you please send her a message. I'm a little concerned!
Avatar f tn I've been on Cytomel for a few months now because my Free T3 was very low. (Pap cancer 3 years ago, TT 2006, Synthroid 125 mcg.) I started on a whole 5 mcg tablet and for some reason it was determined that I'm very sensitive to it. So I started with 1/4 per day and have, over time, worked my way up to 1/2 pill in the morning and the other 1/2 at 3pm. I feel great now, no problems at all.
Avatar f tn Did you take the whole 25 mcg cytomel all at once each day? Cytomel is fast acting and is in and out of your system within a few hours. It may still take a while for your FT3 levels to come back down. I have never heard of using cytomel to increase the effectiveness of antidepressants.
Avatar f tn Am now on Synthroid 75mcg 1x day and Liothyronine SOD (Cytomel) 5 mcg 2x a day. Did not receive timing of Cytomel fr endo beyond 2x day. Pharmacist recommended 12 hrs apart so am taking 8:30 am and 8:30pm.
Avatar f tn Should I cut the Cytomel in 1/2 and take it twice a day instead of once a day? I know I have read posts here that say that it is short-lived and that taking it in 2 doses might be better. Any thoughts????? Thanks so much! I am hoping that the T3 helps me feel better. I have VERY HIGH hopes for this...hoping this is the missing piece to my thyroid puzzle!!! Thanks again!
Avatar f tn I had a thyrodectemy in April 2016. I was still having symptoms but not gaining weight. My Dr. decided to add cytomel, which I am excited about. So my Dr. lowered my synthroid to 125 mg 6x's a week and 5 mg of cytomel 4x's a week. I am also taking calcium twice a day at 600mg and 40,000 IU once a week with calcitrol twice a day as well. At first I was getting anxiety as a result of taking cytomel, but everytime I took my calcitrol I became so tired. My Dr.
Avatar f tn I still knew not to take the full 25mg of cytomel after the last weeks experience so I began taking 100mcg levoxyl and 1/4 of a 25mg cytomel pill (I cut it 4 ways) once a day for a week then went up to a half pill a day for a week and so on till I got to 25mg of CYTOMEL safely. I took this dose (25mg cytomel and 100mcg of levoxyl) for about a month and felt much better.. Joint pain was gone, fibroid cysts stop rupturing, hair and nails were growing and I definately had energy.
Avatar f tn I've had my Vit. D checked regularly and it's been in the normal range (I don't know where in that range it needs to be to be optimal though). My B12 is fine and my iron is fine, although regular iron, not ferritin was checked. I can't seem to find a dr. willing to check ferritin. I have osteoporosis and my bone scans have been up and down since I started on thyroid meds. The latest ones in June went down.
Avatar f tn Okay, I understood that it was your PCP/DO who was prescribing Cytomel for the first time. I was once the victim of my DO's lack of knowledge on how to dose Cytomel, so the red flag in my brain went up! That's a reasonable amount of Cytomel to start on. I'll take the flag down... As I mentioned, Cytomel is rarely used long term by itself; it's almost always a combination of T4 and T3. T3 is very fast acting and quickly neutralized by your body if not used promptly.
Avatar f tn No. Cytomel once a day 5 mg at noon. My ft3 and ft4 has been the same for about 5 years. Tsh value has been lower the past year or so. I came across an interesting website that discusses iron and vitamin d levels http://nahypothyroidism.org/deiodinases/#individual%20variations.
