Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel names

cytomel

Avatar f tn m really concerned about finding a doctor that will test Free T3/Free T4, prescribe Cytomel, take my symptoms into account and ignore TSH. At six months since starting medicine for Hashi/Hypo, we moved to London. At the time, I was taking T4 only. On my first visit/labs they reduced my T4 dose based exclusively on TSH which was in range (.8), but they wanted my TSH over 1.
Avatar m tn I take cytomel 25mcg. A few months ago TSH shot to 42. I raised from 18mcg to 25mcg. TSH went to 5.6, FT3 7.0 ( 2.0-4.4), T4 5.5 (4.5-12.0), RT3 8.6 ( 9.2-24.1), and Antithroglubin Ab 2.2 ( 0.0-0.09) Am I taking too much cytomel? N.P. wants to cut it back an add in T4, which I've never done okay with.
Avatar f tn All the synthetic thyroid hormone replacement meds are called levothyroxine. From there it breaks down into: (1.) Generic (non-brand) levothyroxines. (2.) Brand named levothyroxines. Examples of brand named levothyroxines would be Synthroid and Levoxyl. Hope this gives you an idea but do suggest you do more reading up. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Is the generic form equal to cytomel? I need to know so I can get the best care that I can possibly receive. I appreciate anyone's advice.
Avatar f tn Hello all! I had a TT 4 yrs ago. It's been a struggle, not once have I felt my hypo symptons disappear. My doctor will only test TSH, as well my endo agrees with this. My tsh as been gradually going up, I just had it tested its 8 now. Three months ago, I believe it was at 6. I know not a reliable blood test but it's all I've got right now. Anyway, my dr called yesterday and told me once again she was increasing my synthroid it's at.150 to .200.
Avatar n tn 75 Levoxyl and 25 Cytomel, My range is optimal. I took extra with me, from the States to the UK, where I am looking to live, or possibly France, as I have EU citizenship. USPS attempt to ship meds returned to the States. I will investigate DHL with Endo statement, labs, documentation. In the interim, NHS informed me they do not prescribe those brand names.
Avatar f tn I think it's fairly common to add Synthroid to Armour. T3 seems to lower T4. I take both Synthroid and Cytomel. Before I started the Cytomel my T4 levels were at the top of the range. Now it's around mid-level. If you are having symptoms I don't think you necessarily need to lower your Armour dosage before adding Synthroid. Your doc is correct in mostly ignoring TSH at this point. T3 will drive TSH into the ground. Best to go by symptoms & frees.
Avatar m tn however, in your case it seems it would be easier to adjust FT3 and FT4 independently by decreasing your T4 and adding some T3 med. What happened when you tried Cytomel? I ask because Cytomel can be truthfully advertised as having no known side effects.
Avatar f tn currently on synthroid and to shut me up this doctor put me on cytomel 5 msg...when I convinced him to look at my blood work he drew and he finally relized my T3 was low..his version "oh your body is not converting t4 into t3 any more...here is 5 mcg cytomel, come back in 8 weeks for blood work again. numbers tsh .757 range .5 to 6. .... T3 .85 range .7 to 1.70.... T4 1.77 range .93 to 1.70 the last doc kept my tsh's around 4.
Avatar n tn Wondering if any of you might know of any herbs we shouldnt take when on meds like xanax, wellbutrin sr,synthyroid, cytomel and hormones////drs dont seem to know nor do the pharmisists..so its so confusing to me..im looking for some natural herbs to take for energy and weight loss!
Avatar f tn How long did you give the combo of levo and cytomel to work? And were you splitting the cytomel? Quite often when we first change doses/add a new med, etc symptoms get worse, and we have to wait for our body to get to the change. Aside from that, palpitations can be symptoms of hypo, as well as hyper - I had them really bad when I was hypo and when my dosage was increased, they went away. Why did you start taking your levo at night?
Avatar n tn If not, why are you on T3-only med (Cytomel)? What were your labs a week ago before going on the Cytomel, and were you on any other meds then?
1070570 tn?1283436213 I was up to 125 mcg synthroid, then dropped back to 75 synthroid, then switched to 75 generic levo and added 10 mcg cytomel. That was too much cytomel, so dropped back to 5 mcg cytomel and switched to generic; then up to 88 mcg levo, staying with 5 mcg generic cytomel. Am currently on 100 mcg Tirosint and 5 mcg generic cytomel. I take the Tirosint first thing in the morning, per instructions (my day starts 3:30 am). I take my T3 med about 7-7:30 am.
Avatar f tn She told me she was 20 lbs over weights due to being hypo and was only be able to loose few lbs even with teaching many aerobic classes and eating healthy until she heard of Cytomel. She started taking 25mcg of Cytomel 4 yrs ago and noticed the fat melted quickly. She is now at her ideal weight and very fit.
Avatar f tn s fairly rare for somone to be on Cytomel only. Usually a small dose of Cytomel is added to the Synthroid, which may have to be reduced to accomodate the Cytomel. Cytomel (T3) is very fast-acting, so it has to be taken several times throughout the day if taken by itself. This leads to intra-day ups and downs in hormone levels. Do you have the results of your latest lab tests (FT3, FT4 and TSH) and their reference ranges?
Avatar f tn My TSH is very low, however my Free T3 and Free T $ are still on the very low end of normal. I feel like crap, but want to raise my Levoxyl and keep my Cytomel at the dose I'm at. Doc says NO, as A Fib is too real a possibility. I have read that that is mostly a concern with elevated Free T3, Free T4 with suppression therapy. Any thoughts? I currently am on 75 mcg of Levoxyl and 7 mcg of Cytomel. Still feeling yucky. Am planning on a new doctor. I am 57.
765572 tn?1234697366 Can you take just Cytomel? I am on levothyroxine and feeling awful. I heard that this generic of Synthroid is actually not the same as Synthroid and that it is not as good. I heard some people have fabulous results on Armour and Cytomel. Why are Dr's so reluctant to prescribe these other meds? I heard Cytomel really helps with fatigue. All I want to do is sleep, it's awful.
Avatar f tn I thought that the generic cytomel was exactly as the brand cytomel. no difference what so ever. I thought I read this somewhere in these forums???? i am on the generic for 3 weeks now and I really feel no different. the doc gave me 25 mg of cytomel to add to my 75mcg of synthroid. advice from you guys, so I cut my synthroid in half and taking only 6 mcg of cytomel. but I have been taking 1/2 of cytomel in the morning and breaking the other half in two. so yeah that is 25 mg.
168348 tn?1379357075 Tuesday - endoscopy to check and see if it is (another) bleeding ulcer. Named the first one after my boss (at the time) who just happened to be the Governor. Guess I'll be asking for names for this one once it's "officially" diagnosed (I'm thinking "PC" for papillary carcinoma). Need a chest x-ray this week to, probably do it at the hospital at the same time because that sounds like so much fun (not!).
