Cytomel medication

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel medication

cytomel

765572 tn?1234697366 Can you take just Cytomel? I am on levothyroxine and feeling awful. I heard that this generic of Synthroid is actually not the same as Synthroid and that it is not as good. I heard some people have fabulous results on Armour and Cytomel. Why are Dr's so reluctant to prescribe these other meds? I heard Cytomel really helps with fatigue. All I want to do is sleep, it's awful.
Avatar n tn She has had me taking various levels of Synthroid and one Cytomel tablet daily for the two years I have been seeing me. She requests that I get my TSH tested nearly every 5 weeks and nearly every time the dosage needs to be adjusted. My sister and my dad both have hypothyroidism also, but they only have the levels checked about once a year. My question is: Does it seem normal that my thyroid meds should need to be adjusted constantly?
Avatar f tn So he sent me to the Endo and she raised my Levoxyl to 112mcg and kept my Cytomel the same at 15mcg 2x daily. After 7 weeks I was tested again and my levels went into the normal range but just above the beginning normal levels which is not optimal for me. Still feeling like garbage. I told her I want to be back in the mid to upper range and so she kept me at 112 mcg Levoxyl and reduced my Cytomel to 10mcg 2x daily. Does that sound right to everyone?
Avatar n tn I am taking Synthroid with Cytomel. I have tried synthroid alone, and then Armour for 8 mos. I am feeling much better now on the synthroid with cytomel.
Avatar m tn In answer to your question regarding T3 meds, while there are sites online that say they sell cytomel without a prescription, I would never buy from them, because I have no idea what they are really selling... There are also some glandular products that are sold over the counter, but they are supposed to have the actual hormone content removed and are simply ground up tissue. In short, T3 products sold in the U.S require a prescription.
Avatar n tn I am currently taking 88mcg synthroid with 5mcg cytomel. I take these in the morning when I wake up. When I wake up I feel pretty good, good level of energy, clear thinking etc. About an hour to hour and fifteen minutes after taking these medications I feel dizziness, sleepiness, chills, labored breath, reflux like symptoms. If I lay down, I can actually fall right to sleep, only a couple of hours after waking up! How can I feel good before I take them and so lousy afterwards?
Avatar f tn I was put on 75 mcg of levithyroxine and later put on 50 mcg of cytomel. I told my doctor at the time that I thought that dose was too high, but he wouldn't listen to me. Fast forward to a few weeks ago. I finally found a new doctor and had labs done. (I went in because I found a lump in my breast, which after a mammogram and ultrasound, they said its "probably" benign, but I have to follow up in 6 months). Anyway, had labs done, here were my thyroid results: TSH: 0.
Avatar n tn Is it even possible for the lack of taking Cytomel to hit me that quickly? I know Cytomel is a quicker acting and quicker out of the system medication but is it possible to notice it that quickly? I am thinking of leaving her a message on Tuesday to see if I can go back on Cytomel and reduce the Levoxyl. I don't think she's a huge fan of Cytomel but at least she was willing to prescribe it at that point.
Avatar m tn I have been feeling better than I started out last year but I usually feel better when the doctor changes the dosage and then it gradually gets crappy. (tired, achy, feeling cold) This time I stayed relatively stable. Right before last Thurs when I got my blood drawn I didn't feel great but not as horrible as I usually feel by the time I'm due for a blood draw. So the doctor called me today and told me to take one 5mcg Cytomel in the am then take 5mcg of Cytomel at 2pm.
Avatar n tn Desiccated thyroid is the only thyroid medication I've ever been on. I've never been on Synthroid or Cytomel.
Avatar f tn Well I started not feeling good a few years back and have just started seeing a new doctor who thinks it has to do with the re formulation of Armour. So he added cytomel 5mcg to my daily Armour medication and I started to feel better. We retested my levels and they were still In middle of the range and the doctor decided to add 5 mcg more of the cytomel. Well now my blood work is showing a .5 tsh (lab normal is .350-4.500) but my t4 free is .64 (.80-1.80)and my free t3 is 2.9(2.3-4.2).
Avatar n tn There are not a lot of great options with the exception of a trial of cytomel (T3) addition to the synthroid -- this helps a few people, so may be worth a try. Usually we give 5mcg of cytomel in am and mid-afternoon --the synthroid dose would need to decrease by about 40mcg with this addition of cytomel.
Avatar f tn I would like to know if changing from half of .25 synthroid to .5 of cytomel causes my hair to become britol and break off? I was on half of the synthroid I mentioned, and my level was at a 4. The Dr. thought it should go lower so she put me on .5 of Cytomel. I noticed the weight around my middle seemed to have trimmed down some. I teach aerobics and really didn't have any of side effects except did get tired if I did too much.
Avatar n tn For the past 5 years or so, I have been struggling to find a medication or combination that works for me.
Avatar f tn That could be a T3 med like Cytomel, or it could be a combo type T4/T3 med like Armour or Nature-Throid.
Avatar f tn What is food and supplements are safe to consume with Cytomel. I am actively trying to lose weight through diet and exercise and feel like I am fighting with a brick wall. Very defeating! I eat certain things or take different supplements, I get extreme reactions. Please advise. . .
Avatar n tn I tried medication in the past. When I was on Synthroid (50 mg) I was very depressed. The doctor added Cytomel, 5 mcg and lowered my Synthroid to 25 mg and I felt great for 2-4 days, but then it was back to being miserable. I then went to a different doctor who is obsessed with T3 and added up to 15 mcg Cytomel which made me feel like I had an electric shock running through my veins. QUESTION #1: Why did I get suicidal depression every morning when I was on the 50 mg Synthroid?
744962 tn?1270942038 I was on 50 mcg levothyroxin and10 mcg cytomel and I took the cytomel in 2 doses - the first with my levothyroxin first thing in the morning, the second about 10:00. I should tell you that MY "first thing in the morning" is at 3:00 am......... So the second dose of cytomel was approx 7 hrs after the first and that seemed to get me through the day okay.
Avatar n tn This new doctor thinks, as I do, that I might be on too much medication, despite feeling super tired, depressed, confused and weak. I now have muscle pain, and some heart strain, but I suppose I should mention, I just finished treatment for shingles.
Avatar f tn Since my surgery it is around 190. Will this even out or do I need to change my medication. I am taking cytomel 2x a day 25 mil in am and 12.5 in the evening. I am also taking calcitriol 0.25 2x a day. Where do you think my treatment should go from here. Dr said the nodule was papalillary. I am a 54 yr old female.
Avatar n tn After 3 plus years of medication, I recently have went off of all medication due to the fact that I was having hair loss and numerous other symptoms. My TSH is in the normal level, but higher than used to be normal for me. Does taking synthroid and cytomel permanently damage your thyroid gland? Thanks.
Avatar n tn I have read that cytomel boost the anti depression medication, when I was first prescribed it I did not take it because if the simple fact of when I get off of them what will happen. So when I went back for a follow up I ask my doc about them and he said it should be fine, I plan on going to see him this week and asking him again about them.
Avatar n tn Your body ONLY uses T3 hormone ultimately. Cytomel is a pure T3 medication. Levo is a pure T4 medication. Your body symptoms etc will generally react to the levels of Free T3 in your bloodstream as that is the only thing your body uses. Theoretically I believe that a person can be on T3 only medication. I think a few people are. But I'm not sure that totally short circuiting your body's natural response of converting T4 into T3 is the best idea.
