cytomel

Avatar f tn he is my PCP/DO and was just going over the updated meds list. The Levothyroxine .50/.75 alternating daily and the Cytomel .5 1/2 am and 1/2 at 5pm was rx by Endocrinologist.
Avatar f tn Hi all. My new endo (who I didn't like) discontinued my cytomel and started me on levothyroxine 25mcg. Sorry I don't have most recent labs back yet. My question is, about an hour and a half after taking my pill I feel almost high. And not in a good way. This lasts about 1-2 hours. Then I go back to feeling tired, sluggish. My normal hypo symptoms. Then about 8 pm I get a great burst of energy. feel clear headed. In general, better than I have in 2 years.
765572 tn?1234697366 Can you take just Cytomel? I am on levothyroxine and feeling awful. I heard that this generic of Synthroid is actually not the same as Synthroid and that it is not as good. I heard some people have fabulous results on Armour and Cytomel. Why are Dr's so reluctant to prescribe these other meds? I heard Cytomel really helps with fatigue. All I want to do is sleep, it's awful.
Avatar n tn 5 cytomel. I never felt better in my life! I was on 125 levothyroxine and 12.5 cytomel to clarify. My doctor said I would not lose weight due to the cytomel. I don't know if it was the cyt or just me feeling better with no more fatigue that made me lose weight. I dropped 25lbs. Two months ago found out I was pregnant and was taken off the cytomel and my levothyroxine was raised to 150. I miscarried a week later. My thyroid levels got so messed up because of the all the hormonal changes.
1058524 tn?1285187240 I had a TT 5 weeks ago. For 2 weeks I was on Levothyroxine 175 1x daily . Then I got the news I "had" cancer and was to stop Levothyroxine and take Cytomel 25 2xs a day. *Levothyroxine I would take in the morning/empty/with h20 no food for 1 hour *Cytomel I take one in the morning 8-9am same as above, then one at 9pm My question is I felt amazing on Levothyroxine (alive again!) and I feel OK on Cytomel. My issue is I am really tired between the hours of 2pm and 6pm.
705042 tn?1228721787 The doctor should know that. Cytomel is 2 1/2 times as potent as Levothyroxine. By adding Cytomel your doctor more than doubled your medication in one step. A normal combination would be 75mcg of Levo and 5mg of Cytomel, or something like that ratio-wise. Maybe 88mcg of Levo and 10mg of Cytomel, or 100mcg and 10mg. One part Cytomel and two parts Levothyroxine is not a good balance. The Cytomel is metabolized very quickly and is gone in a few hours.
332168 tn?1201026915 Currently I take 137 of Levothyroxine and 25 mcg of Cytomel. I was taking a half tablet in the morning and once in the early afternoon, but I couldn't manage to remember to take the afternoon dose in a timely fashion, and sometimes was kept up at night. I asked my doctor about just upping the Levo and dropping the cytomel, but he seems to think that it's best I'm on both. So I now take the entire dose in the morning and I find this works great for me.
Avatar m tn Some people do great on Synthroid. I am one who did not. I have been on Levothyroxine (and am now currently), went to Synthroid then Levoxyl then back to Levothyroxine. Mine is kind of a convoluted story as I'd never been on meds prior to my TT last year. My doc started me on a combo of Levo and Cytomel post TT. I was a little jittery on the combo, so I went to Synthroid only to try and convert my own T3... I absolutely hated it.
Avatar f tn If you do not need the levothyroxine, you certainly do not need Cytomel. There is no special procedure for stopping your Levothyroxine. You just stop. If the doctor tells you to, that is. If you have hypothyroidism and you get your levels adjusted properly with medication, that does not mean you are healed and can stop the med. If your thyroid resumes function to the point that you do not need levothyroxine, you will know because the medication will drive you hyper.
Avatar f tn My doctors suggest that I take Phentermine but im taking levothyroxine 88mg and Cytomel 5mg due to thyroidectomy 3 years ago and I have gain weight due to hypothyroidism. Have anyone tried the phentermine while on levothyroxine and Cytomel?
Avatar f tn hello all I started on cytomel with some positive results. I am still not feeling well but it seems that my levels are still not were they should be I suppose. Can someone offer me some more advice? Here are my new levels: TSH .67 Free t3 3.05 Free t4 .072 I still feel very tired and somewhat depressed. My endo will give me medicine but will not offer any advice on what I should be taking.
Avatar f tn I've taken, both, generic levothyroxine (T4) and liothyronine (T3), as well, as brand name Synthroid and Cytomel. I did better on on generic levo than I did on Synthyroid... I've been taking generic liothyronine for over 5 yrs and have done just as well as I did on Cytomel. I don't think you'll have any difficulty, with generic T3, but if you do, you can always go back to Cytomel.
Avatar f tn of 08 i have been taking cytomel 50mcg and levothyroxine 125mcg every morning. I have gained 50lbs and my thyroid levels are: TSH 0.00, T3U 33, T4 7.6, FTI 2.5 and i am always tired and it doesn't matter how much i watch what i eat or exercise i can not lose weight WHY??? What am i doing wrong? Please help me lose the weight..Give me some ideas.
Avatar n tn I hated every minute of it! I went off of a Levothyroxine/Cytomel combo post TT, to try and make my own T3... (TT in Sept '07 for cancer). The Synthroid only (T4) made me gain at least 15 lbs. But it was the arthritis/joint pain that made me switch immediately. I tried Levoxyl and it got a little better, but I just added back in the Cytomel and changed back to Levothyroxine, and I'm feeling SO much better!
Avatar n tn Hi Everyone, For several years I have been having some strange symptoms after 20yrs on the same dosage of levothyroxine 0.175mcg. Muscle & joint aches (Fibromyalgia), then TSH is 2.7, 1.5,.7. Last Oct. a nodule on the right side of thyroid, US done, 2cm nodule, solid. Dec. had a partial thyroidectomy with a micropapillary carcinoma. TSH 1.7 after surgery, still doing well and feeling much better on levothyroxine 112 & Cytomel 5 mcg. TSH was .7 and now 6.793.
534785 tn?1329592208 If this is the case the Levothyroxine should be lowered and Cytomel added - Cytomel is Liothyronine the active T3. Talk to an endocrinologist.
Avatar f tn 30 am for me; then I take the other 5 mcg cytomel at 9:30 am. I have more energy than I've had in years and I'm even beginning to sleep almost the entire night. I do start getting pretty tired around 3:00-3:30 pm, but that's ok because I'm home from work by then and I go to bed very early (7:30 pm) so I need to "wind down" anyway. I think you need to talk to your doctor and see about an adjustment to your med.
Avatar f tn m on levoxyl, it definately works better then levothyroxine to keep my symptoms away. That said, when i switched i avoided the cytomel to get used to the levoxyl just so if i felt anything i knew what was to blame. In that time i noticed the brain fog creeping in and another 1-2 symptoms that it was clear I had to start adding cytomel. I've been on the combo for a week now so it may have been something i did, as you said cause im totally fine now.
Avatar f tn I go back to the doctor in a week for new labs and I want to ask about adding a small dose of Cytomel to the levothyroxine. Has anyone had more success with this combo?
Avatar f tn I have just been prescribed cytomel and i also take Levothyroxine 100 mcgs. I wait until the afternoon to take cytomel which works best for me. I feel better after taking it, and I had my lunch already. Hope this helps!!
Avatar f tn Even while taking the slightly higher dose of levothyroxine a handful of patients continue to complain that a sense of wellbeing has not been restored. A trial of levothyroxine and tri-iodothyronine is not unreasonable. The dose of levothyroxine should be reduced by 50µg daily and tri iodothyronine in a dose of 10µg (half a tablet) daily added. **** This is a link re osteoporosis and their are lots of interesting topics at the top of the page. web.archive.org/web/2010112...
Avatar f tn I have been given varying amounts of Cytomel and levothyroxine over the years. Since diagnosis I have never been normalized (free of symptoms) which is understandable given all the pregnancies etc. Hard to tell if fatigue and mood is due to having premie twins or thyroid. But now with five kids and things calming down I have to get this in check ASAP. The TSH went up so high because my doctor move, busy with kids, etc, etc, and I didn't get meds for last 9 months.
Avatar f tn 05MG one in the AM as a back up ( in case I cant get my Armour RX filled ) Is it OK to switch from Armour to the cytomel/levothyroxine and is the dosage equivalent ? I notice when I take my Armour, I feel very hot/warm and somewhat irritable afterwards for a few hours. Is that a normal side effect? I have an enlarged pituitary and enlarged pituitary stalk , which is monitored by MRI yearly.
Avatar f tn I am on 15 mcg of cytomel also. Here is my question, do indeed to increase cytomel with levo increase? Also should I try a different brand or will I feel like this with all thyroid meds. Is it normal to feel depressed with increases? My t4 is very low. At the bottom range. Just wondering if all this is normal?
Avatar f tn I'm presently on 60 mcg Cytomel and 125 mcg Levothyroxine. What dosages are you on?
Avatar n tn What other tests can be done if there might be a pituitary gland problem? I take Levothyroxine and Cytomel.
