cytomel

Avatar n tn My Dr. changed to cytomel, due to the fact of not being able to get Aurmour thyroid. I was on 90 aurmor but needed to be incresed. She gave me 50 cytomel. Should I break this up or take at once?
1355431 tn?1369975306 Hello all I need some advice on how to take my cytomel to get the best results. Let me start off my saying Im 31 and had a total thyrodectomy 2 years ago due to graves disease. Anyhoo since the surgery I have when hypo and have been feeling very sluggish and tired. I was on synthroid only up untill aug 2012. Now my doc has added 10mg cytomel also. I am suppose to take it twice a day. My question is whats the best way to take the cytomel?
Avatar f tn I have now been prescribed a lower dose of synthroid (100mcg) once a day, and 5mcg of cytomel 2x a day since my conversion was not doing well. My question is how do people take cytomel twice a day when you also have to take iron and calcium? I can take the first dose in the morning on an empty stomach with my synthroid and wait half an hour to an hour before breakfast. I usually take my iron at lunch an calcium at supper.
1369218 tn?1282423884 How long have you been on the cytomel? If you are sensitive to T3, then you are going to have same with armour. In fact the ratio of T3 is higher than the T4. Also, are you breaking up your 10mcg daily into 5 in morning and 5 in afternoon?
Avatar f tn Just got new script for Synthroid combined with Cytomel and my Endo wants me to take the Synthroid and half the dose of the Cytomel in the morning and the rest of the Cytomel in the evening. My question is if there is anyone who has a similar script, do you take the evening dose before bed or before dinner? Thanks.
Avatar f tn s fairly rare for somone to be on Cytomel only. Usually a small dose of Cytomel is added to the Synthroid, which may have to be reduced to accomodate the Cytomel. Cytomel (T3) is very fast-acting, so it has to be taken several times throughout the day if taken by itself. This leads to intra-day ups and downs in hormone levels. Do you have the results of your latest lab tests (FT3, FT4 and TSH) and their reference ranges?
Avatar n tn I cannot see the doctor until late next week and I feel I need to get back on cytomel (T3). How should I switch back to cytomel without doing a lot more damgae to my adrenals? Should I taper the armour while adding the cytomel? Or should I go off all of the armour asap?
Avatar m tn I have been on a Synthroid/Cytomel combo for 10+ years, and it has worked great for me. The only possible side effect was that my resting heart rate was running 90-105 for the last few years. Over the last year, I've been slowly building up with new hyper symptoms and annual lab tests confirmed that my T3 level was too high. Most frustrating symptoms are heat intolerance, insomnia, and lifestyle-altering anxiety.
Avatar f tn I took all 5 mcg in the morning with my Synthroid and within 5 days I was a mess. Heart pounding like crazy and shaky. Called the doc and he told me to take 1/2 of the Cytomel to see if it made a difference. I decided to take 1/4. Did that for a week and felt fine. Started 1/2 and two days later I'm a mess again. Not sure what I'm gonna do now. Hopefully you will have better luck than I have.
Avatar f tn I just picked up a 25mcg prescription of Cytomel. I already take 100mcg Synthroid in the morning. What's the best time of day to take the Cytomel? My dr. said in the evening, but I heard it causes insomnia if taken that late. Also, should I take the whole dose at once or split it in half?
Avatar n tn Hi ....Is there anyone on cytomel for hypothyroidism? How long does it take to work? I have put on about 10 pounds slowly even though I have been exercising atleast 3 times a week for 5 out of last 6 months. Then finally about a month ago I got diagnosed with hypothyroidism. At least now I know the reason for weight gain. I just started on 25 mcg of cytomel. I can't wait for it to start working. Just this week I started burning at least 500 calories a day by exercising ....
Avatar f tn Cytomel is therefore added to Synthroid to effect weight reduction. The effect of Cytomel takes a couple of weeks to set in. Cytomel can be given upto 100 mcg/day. So if you are on10 mcg/d and unable to lose weight it makes sense to increase to 25 mcg/d. Simultaneously Synthroid dose may need to be reduced slightly. Regarding any other laboratory tests besides thyroid profile at this point in time, I feel nothing else is necessary.
Avatar f tn Since my FT3 was low-normal, my dr. put me on 25mcg of Cytomel in addition to the 100mcg Synthroid I was already taking. After two weeks I had bad hyper symptoms, so he told me only take half the pill (12mcg). I did that for about a week and still had bad hyper symptoms so yesterday I started only taking a quarter of the pill in the afternoon (about 6.25mcg). Most of the hyper symptoms are gone but now I'm back to being tired.
Avatar m tn Does anyone know...once you start taking exogenous T3, does your body temporarily stop converting T4 to T3 on it's own? I'm wanting to quit my Cytomel (at least for now) to see if my palpitations go away. I'm anticipating some time of feeling crappy while I adjust... Just curious how long it might take for my body to start producing it's OWN T3 from the T4 I take, so I can better gauge if stopping Cytomel is for me. Thanks!
1877796 tn?1320527991 m also confused as to how to take it. Some say on an empty stomach yet Dr. Mercola says to take it 1/2 hour after a meal, split into 2 doses. I've been doing the 2 doses, 45 am and 45 pm, but I think I need more. I had a wave of fatigue and fog come over me this afternoon and is still with me, but not as bad as it was a few hours ago. I do want to stay on Armour as I feel so much better, but I need to know the proper way to take it.
Avatar m tn Your FT4 is close to the top of the range, so I think you're absolutely right...you shouldn't increase your T4 meds. I'd try adding a direct source of T3 (Cytomel). As a first step, I'd lower T4 meds to 125 mcg and add in 5 mcg Cytomel split into two doses, one first thing in the morning and one later in the day (you'll have to play with timing to see what works best for you and your lifestyle schedule).
Avatar n tn I recently went to the doctor with blood work that showed a high TSH level. The doctor increased my Synthroid to .175 from .150. She would not discuss Cytomel and did not want to refer to an endo. She wrote an order for bloodwork in 8 weeks. Honestly, I am so miserable that 8 weeks seems like an eternity. I have no problem going through the internet and getting my own bloodwork done. It really isn't that expensive any more.
Avatar f tn I know it's kind of a hassle to take it twice, but T3 is so fast acting that if you take it all at once, it's going to be gone in a few hours. Have you noticed any increase in your fatigue in the evening since you stopped splitting your dose? You hadn't taken your meds before the test, had you?
Avatar f tn I find it hard to take the 3 pills a day because of my work schedule. I read not to take cytomel at night because it interferes with sleep. Is this correct? Thanks for the help.
